Did this exact thing with regular hand sanitizer, gloves , toothbrush & fabric on a very old canon 300D which had been sitting in a camera bag for over a decade, extremely sticky and hands would come away black . Didn't even need the toothbrush, was extremely useful to have gloves on & very easy to clean the camera , the sanitizer worked like a charm ! Thanks so much for this video .

Mr C, It looks great. I'm glad you made this video. I have a D70s that had a sticky back. I used 99% Isopropyl alcohol to remove the stickiness. It took about 4 applications. I then restored the sheen by using Armor-All wipes. Ten years later, the camera still looks and feels like new.

You have solved a "sticky" problem that has bothered me for years. Both my D80 and D90 have had sticky surfaces that have frustrated me. Your instructional and informational video has solved the problem. They are almost completely free of stickiness. I thank you and appreciate your video.

Worked like a charm. Mine was so sticky you did not need a strap! Many thanks. For what it is worth I rubbed in a bit of ArmorAll after the cleaning. Seemed to work ok and gave a new luster to the camera back and covering.

I have found Iso alcohol works really well. A jellied alcohol would be nice to let it soak in. I'll try this on my next sticky find. Thanks.

Yes, alcohol works but it sometimes leaves a white residue that's difficult to remove.

Using hand sanitiser is handy tip excuse the pun. I used rubbing acholal on a Nikon F90x (N90x) and a Minolta Dynax 7 and it worked well but but your method would probably be less harsh on the finish. Thanks for sharing your tips.

Quick question, what was the alcohol content of your hand sanitizer? Great video by the way. I used isopropyl on my Canon 50E grip worked a treat, but I have an Olympus E20N with a sticky grip so I'm gonna try your method. Regards Rob.

Hi Rob, 70% Ethyl Alcohol. Maybe the sanitizer gel stays on longer without evaporating like alcohol.

@@mr.cmr.c3855 thanks for reply, well I tried the hand gel (70%) on my Olympus E20N sticky grip, it didn't work on this occasion, so I've just stripped all of the sticky rubber off back to the plastic underneath. Cleaned it all up, It looks and feels great now. Strangely though the isopropyl worked well on my Canon 50E grip. OK, have a great day my friend. Regards Rob (UK)

I hope you're doing fine, because your hand doesn't look good. Good tip, i've tried it with a old t-shirt, and 90% isopropyl alcohol, nothing helped. It was sticky as hell, extremely annoying, and my fingers have been sticky as hell, too. It is because the adheasive out of this plastic is vaporizing, which causes that chemical reaction and therefore sticky effect.

@@mr.cmr.c3855 All the best for you. I've tried it again with a Hand sanatizer, and (you'd laugh) the inside of a face mask, which does the trick. My F80 is 99% like new, from the backside. Had no old Shirt to use it for. Figured also out, different hand sanatizer does have different effect, the one from my coworker is less fluid, worked best, whileas the one i've bought into a drugstore, is fluid like water, doesn't have the same, great effect.

I think in that case it may not be worth it. There are no spare parts and the N80 bodies are relatively cheap. I would recommend buying a used body in good working order. There's a repair manual here incase you want to see what's involved. ss-it.de/data/servicemanuals/F80.pdf
