Nikon Z Camera i-Menu Settings

In this tutorial, I go over my Nikon Z camera, i-menu settings and I explain how you can customize the i-menu on your Z camera too.
I neglected to mention in the video that these are my i-menu settings for camera mode. One can have an entire different set of i-menu settings for video mode. I'm sorry I didn't mention that at the beginning of the video.

Thanks Anthony. I will refer to this when I get my new camera. On my DSLR I do the same thing and save the settings to an old lower capacity memory card so when I mess things up I can reload my settings back in.

Was going to give this a pass; very glad I watched. If I get a second Z camera, I will take your advice and set it up to match my Z6ii. Never made use of the U1-U3 on my D7200, but might copy your lead. Please consider a short video discussing the way you use each a bit more. It would help me. Going to start a small notebook to keep in my camera bag for quick reference. My memory is fine, but a quick reference can help avoid problems. Thanks again.

Thanks for the useful tutorial. Is there a way to add the shooting modes to the iMenu, for example, timer, continuous low etc? I want to setup self-timer so that when I select my HDR bracketing menu bank on tripod, it will automatically switch to self-timer. Also, when I select my menu bank for HDR bracketing (handheld, it will switch to shooting continuous. Thanks.

I believe you can save your settings externally to your card and transfer to a your other cameras without going through the same process for each camera.

Yes I should have mentioned that. Thank you for bringing it up. If you have more than one of the same model Z camera, you can save the settings to the card, put the card in the second camera and load those settings into that camera.

I can follow what you are doing but I have a question. In the top right box, focus, I see eye / face / animal detect as an option. I have tried to get my Z7 to do exactly this but after many frustrating hours I am finding it impossible. In fact I am finding it impossible to use those functions at all. Could you point me in the right direction to fix this. Thank you

Any idea why I cannot save Monitor brightness or Manual exposure in the U Settings on my Z7II. All the other changes were saved in my U settings.

Good video... I thought, you can write the settings to the memory card of the first camera you setup and then just load them into the other cameras? Isn't that correct?

I didn’t know this was possible. I’m curious what your U1, U2 and U3 are set for; portrait, landscape and action?

U1 is for landscape. U2 is existing light portraiture, and U3 is both for wildlife and studio with strobes. With either, I have to make a minor settings change. If I'm shooting wildlife, I put the camera on U3 and go into the i-menu and change the release mode from single frame to high speed continuous. If I'm shooting in the studio, I put the camera on U3, take it off Auto-iso and put it at iso 100, then go into the i-menu and change the AF-area mode to Auto Area AF(people). Those are starting points. I'm often changing the AF-area mode to suit the situation -- particularly when shooting wildlife.

Good additional info. Q: how did the camera get into Auto ISO? I don’t recall this being mentioned in the video. Are there other settings not in the I-menu for the U settings that need to be set before saving?
