Nikon Z50 Image Stabilization Test (VR) | How Does it Compare to IBIS?

In this video, I test the electronic stabilization (vibration reduction - VR) of Nikon Z50.
Nikon Z50 does not have IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization) that stabilizes the sensor, so how does this electronic image stabilization compare and is it any good?
In the test, I use three different lenses:
Nikon 20mm 1.8G with FTZ adapter
Nikon 50mm 1.8G with FTZ adapter
Nikon Z50 kit lens
Note: all footage was shot at 24 fps and none of it was slowed down. If footage was slowed down, the footage would look much smoother.

Kit lens does a good job when held still - takes the micro jitters out.

FYI the 50 1.8G is not stabilized, and since the Z50 doesn't have stabilization either, this part makes no sense. Neither is stabilized.

I was expecting better results. Looks like not much help from Nikon IS. It's almost nothing compared with Olympus or Panasonic in body IS. However, I have to give credit to Z50 as it looks like that camera is well balanced and sits in hard very well, which itself reduces a need for image stabilization.

The IS isn’t very good for walking around, but it is decent for steady shots and panning. Oly and Panasonic are M43 so their stabilization will be better for sure.

One thing to note is there is a problem with the testing method. For example, the 50 1.8G is not stabilized, so that's why it looks the same with VR on/OFF which also doesn't make sense since that lens nor the Z50 have stabilization. The Z50 has a VR on/off function but this only matters if the lens itself has VR, which in the case of the 50 1.8G, it doesn't.

Have you had a chance to try the IBIS on any of the FX bodies(Z5, 6 or 7) in a similar test?

I tried the Z6. The IBIS is decent, but not perfect. It’s fine for hand held still shots with slower shutter speed. It’s ok for some video as well. In my opinion, stabilized lenses (not just Nikon’s, but in general) work better than IBIS, but the downside is that not all lenses are stabilized.

Is the kit lens the Nikkor Z DX 24mm F/1.7 ?

How are you adjusting VR on and off settings Is it from lens or Z50 body? thanks in advance.

I adjust it in camera. The kit lens that has optical stabilization doesn’t have any switches on it. I have the setting in the “i” menu.

why vibration reduction on my nikon z30 not possible . I have lens viltrox 13mm 1.4

Because vibration reduction happens in the lens. Your lens has to have stabilization to be able to turn it on. Viltrox lenses aren’t stabilized.

No difference. IBIS in cameras are meant for stills and not videos so you don't get a blur when taking pix. I think action cameras will give that software IBIS better or better still a steadicam or gimbal.

You arent using ibis. you are using electronic stabilization. See how it crops in? Ibis doesnt do that.
