People are just finding excuses to just bash on nikon, seems like the popular thing to do nowadays. Here's some things nikon does that the "competition" (hint: begins with S) still hasn't quite nailed - ergonomics and UI. The Zs are just plainly nice to hold and shoot. They're designed for ease of use. Can you really say the same for the other mirrorless brand? Personally, as someone who has shot with Canon for a number of years before moving to primarily Nikon, I find the better dynamic range and more accurate color science in the Nikons preferable to the Sonys (similar DR, worse color, worse video) and Canon (poor DR, traditionally better AF but honestly not much, every video mode is a compromise). There are arguments for each system but the Nikons offer more consistency in the lens lineup, top of the line video with RAW recording, lenses with no focus breathing or aberrations, and all at lower price points than the competition. I think Nikon should pay lot of KZbinrs to make good reviews. Sony has been doing it. Look how they stole the sales from Nikon and Canon. Look at Canon, they made some overheating piles of junk. But in a few months, all the youtubers will back these cameras saying how they were initially wrong. etc. Peter Mckinnon initially said he would not use the EOS R as it did not have slow motion. And that the 1DX was a 14fps photo beast. But a month later he said he is completely switching. That wasn't a choice. Canon clearly wanted him to use and promote the EOS R. Eventhough that camera is extremely slow to use, in photo or video in my experience. Major blackouts when using with flash. Slow continuous shooting. Annoying touch bar.which you will disable . Which results in an extremely small number of buttons to control the camera. You will have to use screen for everything. Which for video is fine but not for photo. Even with all these flaws, no youtuber mentions it. They kept promoting and so the EOS R sold better. Many youtubers(canon users) stopped showing slow motion B-roll. Only sony users were doing it. Nikon needs to do this. The cameras are perfectly fine even the old Z6. They need to get people like Brandon Wolfel and other photographers and KZbinrs to promote this camera as much as possible. Also, the flip screen was a missed opportunity. Everyone wants a flip screen nowadays. If not the Z6, then the Z8 needs to come with flip screen. Also, 10 bit internal would have made this worth upgrading from the old Z6. I don't know why Nikon did not do it. Could have made it so that it works with XQD or CFexpress only. Afterall they have 2 processors inside now. Even the single processor could handle 6K downsampled 4K full frame in Z6. This could have boosted sales. I would have upgraded if these features were available instead of getting an Atomos Ninja V. Or they could have given 6K out without downsampling externally. Some headline feature. Internal N-log and 10 bit would have been great in my opinion. And they need to decrease contrast and sharpness in the standard profile which will make the footage more cinematic. I'm ranting a lot. I'm a Nikon fan and I'm disappointed that Nikon is not doing what's necessary to win.They have a good product and they won't advertise properly. There is no entry level mirrorless camera yet. Sub 500 USD camera including kit lens.Does not need huge features but needs to be there to make people get into Nikon system. I started with a D3200. Then a D750 and now a Z6.(many DX and FX lenses as well) If there was no Nikon at that price, I would have bought Canon. And I would have upgraded within Canon.

Those that move into MILC from DSLR have a little more experience and look more for practical usage like user interface and logical controls. Younger and immature Sony shooters often fall into confirmation bias and feel the need to bash other brands to make themselves feel good. Same crowd will shoot A7RV and post only to Instagram. My appreciation to Kai once again. I got a Nikon ZEEE 6 (sorry, that terrible American accent) a year ago and loved it as, believe it or not, a video camera. Oh, it takes great photos. I am happy to see this balanced and fair review of the new Nikon "mark ii" cameras. My big question is whether it Nikons have an edge over the Panasonic S5 because of their focusing capabilities. When you have to shoot run and gun video (documentary and news style), autofocus is a great standby.

Very interested in the Z7.2 suits my needs perfectly will be a nice upgrade from my D810 in a year or two. Also nice to see a hands on look at them that isn't just hating on Nikon like a lot of other youtubers out there who are just hating on Nikon with out even using the new camera's. There's only so much a spec sheet can tell you.

Hey Kai, great video, very interesting preview of the two cameras. One question at 3:45 you say the Z7 II is a 1.1x crop at 4K 60 and the Z II is a DX crop at 4K 60, s that definitely the case? If so, would you argue that Nikon has flipped the video focussed camera from the Z6 to Z7 - as I believe there was more of a crop on the Z7 than Z6 initially - unless I'm getting my wires majorly crossed?
@ghas41513 жыл бұрын
The Z7 uses line skipping while the Z6 doesn’t, so video will still be better on the Z6.

@@ghas4151 yeah I’m with you on that, I just don’t get the logic for the crop on the Z6 II, I’m coming from the Z6 and have pre ordered a Z6 II BUT, I just don’t get why 4K 60 needs a crop on the Z6 II

@@HamerReviews I presume it’s a limitation in the current sensor. We may have to wait for Sony to release an updated sensor capable of faster speeds. I am only speculating on this though, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

G S Yes, it‘s the sensor. It’s called IMX410. You can take a look at the spec sheet on Sony’s website as it is an off the shelve part. It can only do about 40hz in fullframe mode, hence the crop

If only there could be a budget 24-70 f/2.8 zoom. Considering I'm not heavily invested in any system, this looks good. Nikon, open up the Z-mount to sigma please...
@romanpul3 жыл бұрын
Neither Nikon nor Canon ever opened the protocols of their cameras to anyone. The only one who did that was Sony. F and EF mount protocols were reverse engineered by the likes of Sigma and Tamron. Tamron already said that will come forward with some Z glass. Sigma will probably take a bit longer as they are still trying to push the L mount.

My comment will probably get buried, but I switched to the z6 from a d750 and the z6 focusing system is definetly way way way clunkier than a DSLR's autofocus (switching between points/modes etc. My biggest gripe is the auto focus mode, the IQ is really really low. I will be taking a picture of a landscape and it'll focus on some branches infront of me instead of the scene that I'm trying to take a picture of. I switched back to dynamic AF and have began using focus lock again, the focus can be reliable. Another issue is with the z system is the lenses are insanely expensive. Sigma needs to hurry up and release z lenses for this system. I am not paying 1k CAD without taxes for a 35mm f/1.8 That is actually insane to me when a 35mm f/1.4 from sigma on an f mount can be found for like 400-600 dollars used.

Kait, good video as usual! I own the D5 D850 and the D500 with 25 Prime F mount Nikon lenses including the 600mm E FLED 500mm PF 300mm PF 200mm f:2 etc.. Is it worth it to get into the mirrorless game yet? I waited for Version 2 of these cameras and it's finally here, or should I wait for the Z9 which is the D6 Mirrorless equivalent? Thanks in advance!

Nycon, Nickon. It's Neekon. And the lenses are Nikkor. The "i" before the double k is the "i" in give, lick, if. The "i" pronounced as ee in Nikon is like the ee in geese or sheep, but it is staccato - shorter than the ee in English generally is. Japanese are so courteous in not telling foreigners they're doing it wrong that they start making your mistakes as well, when you are present. Which is totally missed by the culturally ignorant. And then the history. Originally called Nippon Kogaku (Japan Optical company), that name was difficult to get popular in "the West" (I always wondered if LA and SF are East or West of Japan), in the 1950s. As, way back, everybody in optics looked up to Carl Zeiss (originally in Jena, Germany) and Zeiss had its "Ikon" cameras, why not call the Nippon Kogaku cameras Nippon Ikon: Nikon.

I was really excited about the z6 II but am left a bit disappointed. The z6 is a solid platform to begin and the updates to the z6 II do address most of the issues of the first z6 but why couldn’t Nikon add a fully articulated screen and 10 bit internally? That would have made it the best camera in its class.

I've just as of a few days ago invested in all of the extras needed in order for me to upgrade for a Z6. I would like to call myself an intermediate photographer. I'm yet making up my mind as to which kind of photographer I'm interested in becoming. I'm currently a shooter with the Nikon D7500, which is also the first camera of mine, that I have owned for a little over a year. Since I'm not the kind of photographer that does jobs (yet), which in turn doesn't make me return the cost of the gear that I like to invest in. So far I'm a proud owner of the D7500, the 70-200 VR II, and a few other lenses. In recent times, I've been spending a lot of time convincing myself into investing further into more gear, hence the Z6, and why I am commenting on this video. However though, as the Z6 II was suddenly introduced, right after I finally convinced myself, the dream of the Z6 was put on hold until the Z6 II was unveiled. I was waiting for that so that I would be able to compare the specs and to see if Nikon would make an enormous leap forward or rather just an incremental update, which it has proved itself to be. However though, as the incremental update has introduced a few extra features, especially the dual processor, I'm rather uncertain whether to wait another month until its release and get the mark II or if I should just go ahead and get the mark I now. What makes me uncertain is that the mark II doesn't seem to bring a lot of features that have a large impact on my use and 'style'. The problem with most reviews is that most old-school camera review channels that have been known for creating enormously informative and high-quality content have been very unreliable in recent times. Most of the good old review channels spend a lot of time 'harassing' Nikon, especially for its Eye-af and face-af, being slightly slower or different from competitors like Sony or Canon. Going from a system that doesn't even have those features, and being focused on the thousands of other genres within photography, literally lynching Nikon for its face-af features is literally a point that is too specific and single-genre focused to degrade the overall performance and complete usability of the camera. After all, the old-school saying of 'being a good photographer isn't dependant on your gear', has turned into you can only be a good photographer with the best of the best and least flawed gear. What I want to know is, is upgrading from a crop-sensor, midrange, and fairly a good camera to the Z6 II overrated, or should I rather go with the Z6 mark I? In my vision, the Dual-processor seems like a more futureproof system since double the power should be possible to bring at least a little more out of the camera, although the sensor and most of the other features are mostly the same. To put it into perspective, is buying the Z6 II over the Z6 like upgrading from an iPhone 11 to an iPhone 11Pro? I'd like to get someone's opinion on purchase the Z6 ii over the Z6 is unnecessary since I already feel like the Z6 is a very great looking camera from its specifications.

If you find the price has a difference of 200-300$ , then get z6 II. If it has a 500+ then go for z6. They are both amazing cameras

Does the Z6 have dual processors or just a single processor? If only one, then the new camera will be much faster to operate, everything will respond faster, like upgrading your computer. It could even give cleaner high ISO files. The AF looks significantly better, not jumping all over the place. The Z6 was useless for shooting models. I'm a Canon person, but I love the Z6/Z7 and want them to be highly successful.
@ghas41513 жыл бұрын
I’m still deciding whether to sell the Z6 and go for the Z7 II. If there is a significant improvement I may make the jump. Not bothered about dual card slots but nice to have the option. If I’m honest, I’m pretty happy with the Z6 and it does everything I need it to apart from super reliable AF which I’m hoping the mark II cameras fix.
@exert20203 жыл бұрын
@@cooloox as far as I can see things like face tracking seem improved. But since the last update my Z6 has been spot on. Depends on the situation though of course. Yes it will likely operate faster, but again I have zero complaints with my Z6. Never thought of it as slow. 4k 60fps is great, but I'm hopeful of a Z6 update for this in the future. New cameras look fab, but like I say, does it really justify paying out an extra 1k. Not for me.

Coming from Fuji xh1, the Nikon Z6 is for me a great camera , don't need the Z6|| Same sensor and focus is after the update good enough for me.

Just 2 things and this will be an instant buy for hybrid shooters everywhere - record to ssd via whatever connection they see fit and internal N-Log because the processing is there! Maybe they will come up with it in a firmware upgrade after some sales results?...if they sell well, they can wait till the mark 3 to pop those upgrades in. hopefully they don’t sell well so Nikon are forced to give us that option. Other than that and if you look at these as just new models and not ‘upgrades’, those specs look good. For a z6/z7 owner though, this should be that camera that you send in to nikon so they add these new features in for $200. There is absolutely nothing worth 2K in them for z6/z7 shooters to consider an upgrade.
