Nikon Z9 is the flagship but what about Sony A1?

Maybe I’m a bit of a traditionalist when it comes for the definition of a flagship, but for me a requirement of a flagship is that it is full-bodied with the all-day battery, like the Z9 or R1. The A1 still has the prosumer battery going on. If you *have* to carry extra batteries no matter the shoot, it’s not a flagship!

Hit that’s Grand. I get what you are saying. If Z1 is out and Nikon continues the Z9 line then Yes. Flagship moves over. Canon R1 is the flagship regardless of lower pixels. It’s a great question.

Let's take Porsche - the 911 is basiclly the flagship , but ther is the GT3 , GT3 RS , GT3 RS with Weissach package then Turbo , Turbo S , GT2 .. ohh wow I now understand Porsche's line up... Anyway , there is always a room for improvment , Nikon could bring a Z9 II , which will be the Flagship , but then Z9X with 60+ MP , and 4.0 CF support to enable fast tranfer speeds , or they can go Z9 IIs with 24 -30 MP , or Z9 II Weissach package , with 75 MP that has that duel mode that is rumered to be able to switch between global and stacked. Same with Canon , they can bring R1X with 45 MP , Sony Has something like this in the form of the A1 and A9 III. It's endless , what a flagship is , is up for debate it's what the maker chooses to classify as a Flagship more than anything else, and what they want you to perceive as the top of the line model, I used to work for a company that developed Hardware + software , what you see as a customer is usually 2-3 levels below the peek of what the maker is capable of showing you , because there is a lot of R&D to be done. Ps Hate gambling , I find it as a waste of time unless it's for fun. Otherwise enjoy!

1:04 We don’t even need to look at other camera brands for comparison, because Nikon itself has created a pseudo-flagship in the past with the F6 in 2004. By definition, the F6 walked, talked, and quacked like a duck (flagship). However, culturally, almost no one-even to this day-considers the F6 to be the true flagship of Nikon’s film SLRs. That title still belongs to the F5, recognized as the last professional (flagship) Nikon SLR, while the F6 is often regarded as being made for “rich amateurs.” So yes, I believe a Z1 could very well become the true flagship of Nikon's mirrorless lineup in the near future.

I just feel like this line of questioning ignores the reaction to the R1. No one considers the R1 to be their flagship. It's an updated R3. The R5 II is their flagship for all intents and purposes. A fast 24 MP camera isn't a flagship. It's a sports camera. The flagship is the jack of all trades. It does it all. The best video, the best photo, the highest MP. If you have two cameras that have great photo and video, they both shoot fast, one has 8K and 45-50 MP blazing fast and the other tops out at 6K and is blazing fast, how is the lower megapixel camera the flagship? Because that was cutting edge in 2016? I just don't get it. There's nothing wrong with a sports camera, but we don't have to pretend it's a flagship camera just because that's what we would have called it 9 years ago.

See there you go. A difference of opinion. I love this. Believe me i like this way of thinking because what it does is it raises questions. So if Canon says the R1 is the flagship is it? not according to you.

@ It objectively isn’t their most full featured or best camera. I think it just needs to be acknowledged that a small group of photographers are sticking to 2016 definitions of flagship. And that’s fine. But that’s what’s happening here. I think some people just need to ask themselves why they’re letting that define things for them. If in 2016, they could have made a Z9 and R5 MK II, they would have called that the flagship. There isn’t really anything the R1 is better at than the R5 MK II, despite serving a real purpose for a specific group of people.
