This video is incredible and I've been looking for it for a while now and here you are with this video explaining exactly what I needed! Thank you so much! I do have a question, I know you mentioned that the shutter speed dial needed to be set to M90, I'm assuming so you know for sure that the dial is reading both on the dial and in the camera. My question is that I accidentally took off the ISO dial without looking at what it was one before. Do you have any way of knowing how to line that dial back up when I put it back on? I just want to be sure I can still trust my light meter!

I did the same mistake, but there was no problem, you just have to put the dial right and be gentle. Try to assemble with the o-ring removed if you want to be sure, since that way you feel what is happening better. Also, I am glad you liked the video. I would never have been able to do this repair without a full parts diagram of the camera. So in doubt, Google that document, the Nikonos V service manual.

@@UlfErlingsson Amazing thank you so so much! Yes this video is everything I needed, and I too am working off of the diagrams in the service manual. For those who may need it here is the link to it: ss-it.de/data/nikonos/Nikonos%20V.pdf

This was very helpful, thank you very much. I was able to locate and remove all those o-rings, except for the second one inside the rewind lever. I was able to remove the clasp under the top part of it but I was not able to remove the securing bar/pipe on the shaft, which stops it from getting pulled out to the top. I am not sure, if I just have to press it through, using pliers, or do I have to unscrew it somehow. Could you please explain, how you took it out?
@UlfErlingsson Жыл бұрын
If I understand you correctly it is that little pin in the photo of the thumbnail. That one is press fit, if I remember correctly I used a small vise or a small press to get it out.
@mrki4937 Жыл бұрын
Thank you, yes, it was just pressed in. I pulled it with pliers and later pushed it in with pliers again. Everything works fine and a first test in my sink showed, that it seems to be water tight. And as low depts are more critical than deeper depths, I guess, the o rings will work down to 50 meters

hey there, thanks for the vid! i am currently trying to service a V and i can't get to the second o ring on the film rewind knob (the inner one) since i can't get the metal rod out, how did you do it? and for the shutter o ring i have to remove the internals of the camera or can i just pull it out at the front? thanks!

If something is stuck, it may be due to corrosion or due to salt build-up. I tried with a liquid that worked against both. Too long time ago to remember, but I think it was a week acid. As for shutter o-ring, I have forgotten the specifics, so I can only refer to the video and the diagrams.

@@UlfErlingsson thank you! yes, the little metal rod at the end of the rewind knob seems to be stuck but it doesn't really look like it is supposed to come out. but yeah, the diagram says it should, i will try again and see if i can get it out. i want to use the camera for diving but not without servicing every single o ring :)

There are 13 O rings?

Hi Ulf, I wanted to thank you for making a great video which made me build up the courage to open my Nikonos. Super helpful. When opened up - the underside of the ISO dial and around the O-rings on the door opener scew are covered in lots of white "gunk". Grease or something like that. Did you encounter this as well? I'm unsure wether to clean it and grease the o-rings or not. I guess it's some old repair or measure to prevent leakage. Thank you again for a helpful video.

Hi, thanks. If it was me, I would definitely clean it and restore it to pristine condition. It may be an overapplication of grease. If the o-rings look bad, replace them (I would replace mine if I had planned on diving with it, which I don't; budget o-rings only last 15 years and I don't know what grade these are).

@@UlfErlingsson Thanks for the quick reply. It seems like it's an overapplication to me. Definitely not salt or anything else like that. The camera looks like it is in great condition overall. O-rings look good, so they'll stay I think. I'll clean all parts, add grease and hopefully not get an unpleasant surprise when taking it under water:)

Update for those interested in doing the same. After some struggle with assembly (ISO dial), I managed to get everything together. However, the viewfinder is now dead. Shutter, autoexposure etc works fine, so I think a wire has loosened when removing the inner body. I think that requires soldering which I'm not going to do. Camera works fine either way :)
@UlfErlingsson2 жыл бұрын
@@Lovprod you may just have a problem with the flat cable to the viewfinder. Check with good loup or a microscope (10X magnificstion).

@@UlfErlingsson Found out that I had assembled the small plastic piece on the flat cable on the outside of the metal part, instead of the inside. While screwing the parts, the small screw fell into the inner camera body. While trying to get it out, all 5 wires on the left side connecting the inner body broke loose. Screw is long gone after lots of time searching. I guess I'll learn to solder, reassemble and pray for the best or keep it as a mechaical/parts camera D:

Awesome video with really good information! You don't have the specs on the o-ring sizes do you? Or did you not need to replace any of them?
@UlfErlingsson2 жыл бұрын
They were all in good shape so I didn't look at what size they were. They looked like 1.5 mm thick, I'd guess.

Also, did I mention that I drop of vinegar on the stainless screws loosened them up in less than an hour?
