Thanks so much Chris, for a simplified very detailed video of the ZF. I own a Z 8, and as an almost retired wildlife and landscape hobbyist, I maybe will consider the ZF as a 2nd option for video when I embark on my next African Safari. I'm thinking ZF, because it has the mechanical shutter, I certainly wouldn't change a lens on the run but would choose one of Nikons other lenses. I do own the Z 14-24 S 2.8 ; Z 24-70 S 2.8 and the Z 70-200 S 2.8 and best of all I received my Z 180-600 5.6/6.3 whilst in hospital for 13 days. I am all pumped up at what Nikon has delivered, and between you & Matt Irwin whom I religiously follow in Australia where I live, I also love what you deliver. Thanks once again

I am 70 years old and started with Nikon F?. Then change to D100 and 7100 and the part I hate the most was going to the lcd and look for settings,never like it but I am faithful to Nykon .with the Nykon ZF ,I get to see the light at the end of the tunnel and that's what I was missing.the dials they are all in my face.I am loosing my eyes site but I will sell some of the old stuff I have and I am going to buy it before I go blind. People are spoiled it is not a big deal if you have one and halve card ,get anoder with a larger file.thank you Nykon for allawing us to freeze the beautifully things in life.Thank you.

We're getting there. Hope the next breakthrough will be eye tracking focus through evf (photographers eyes). Its going to be such an evolution in the way we capture images. Just imagine! Purchased the ZF. So much for the money. Thanks for the great, informative video.

I‘m tempted to fit Voigtländer M Mount Lenses to the Zf. I know they already have Z Mount Lenses, but not the 28mm/2 or 35mm/2 Ultron etc. … these very compact lenses with Focus Tab.

Hey Nikon, my favorite color is Yellow, Nikon is gratefully yellow themes as well, but there's no yellow leather option in the ZF yet, can you make yellow Nikon themed Zf option, either black or silver body or available in both, I will be really love to have it in Yellow! If you can make a true rangefinder with switchable EVF hybrid futuristic looking camera will be great too, something with Swedish and German clean simple line design like Teenage Engineering, your new Z lenses is nearly that with the NIKKOR font but I did like to see the professional models like Z5-9 in these cleaner line futuristic ultramodern inspiring design yet fun to use design too! Also make your lens has yellow distance manual focusing like your 58mm F0.95 lens or have yellow aperture value marking! 💛📷

Hold up, pixel shift doesn't require moving the camera? You just...get it still and wait? I had this preconceived notion that it was some sort of process where you took multiple photos and then it's smartly stitched them together. This changes everything

Does the silent shutter function on the Zf measure up to the Z8 and Z9! Earlier Z cameras created a banding effect on images when using silent shutter indoors.

Any comments or feedback regarding shutter lag? Is it more similar to the Z6ii or the Z8/9. I'm aware this camera has the pre-capture recording option, but I prefer shooting RAW.

Do you have anything to say about the fact that we can now screw in our own soft shutter release? I think that's pretty neat and can allow us to add a neat little accent to an already stylish piece of hardware.

The only thing that holds me back is the lack of the joystick. On my xt 4 I always shoot with the screen facing inwards. Its so close to perfect, but its actually a showstopper this, until I try it perhaps.

A brilliantly detailed video, thank you Chris. Question-1: Does it have focus stacking please? Question-2: Does using a lens with VR increase the VR stability achieved? I am really interested in one of these cameras for both the retro looking style, but more importantly getting features from the Z8 when the cost of one of those is beyond my reach. I'm glad you liked the video! 1) Yes, it has Nikon's Focus Shift Shooting feature. 2) Generally a Z lens with VR will show an improvement over a Z lens without VR of the same focal length. Keep in mind that a Z lens will always allow more stops of correction than an F mount lens as there are more axis of correction (5 axis for Z lenses, 3 axis for F mount).

Does the C setting on the ISO dial put it into Auto mode? I see that the C setting on the exposure dial allow +/- 5 stops.

The C on the ISO dial allows you to set the ISO through customized buttons, the I menu, or the regular Shooting Menu.

So, with the ultra high rez stacked shooting mode, obviously you'd need a steady tripod, but will the mechanical shutter flapping cause camera shake between frames?

In the tests I’ve run so far, I’ve had no issues with any camera shake caused by the shutter.

Good info in this video.... but if the featured product is the Zf, why must you have it in soft focus the entire time?! The T-Shirt is razor sharp, but not the product. There's enough separation with the background to stop down a bit and have the rep and the camera in focus, with the background still soft. Other than that... I'm really looking forward to owning this camera!

Give me an f/1.2 lens and I’m going to shoot it at 1.2! Seriously though, over the years I’ve tried a lot of different apertures when testing the lighting and setup of my “studio” (kitchen), and there really isn’t enough separation between me and the background when stopped down enough to get products in focus too. I know I’m probably being picky but I’m still sorry you’re stuck seeing me in focus the whole time and not the lovely Z f!

Nikon will have a lot of sales with this camera--I actually put one into my basket for pre-order. But, I had second thoughts, and deleted it. 2 main reasons: 1) The grip.... Yes, I know it's supposed to be a retro-looking camera, but if it's hard to hold, it doesn't matter what it looks like. I really don't care about the retro look; I like the dials for their function. Way too shallow on that right-hand end. Adding a 3rd party handle (Smallrig) would only serve to forever remind me of this design mistake. I shot film for years, and I really appreciated the design improvements on the DSLR cameras. 2) 24 megapixels. It didn't need to be 45, but 24? I already have that in my 10 year old D7100. I can't afford a large array of lenses, so I'll need to crop to get some reach, and DX mode on the Zf is only 10.5 megapixels! Some folks do say 24 is enough, but those folks have (and can afford) multiple lenses. This tempting camera is the first mirrorless Nikon to tick off the most boxes for me, but still falls short (again, FOR ME!!!) Sony A7C ll comes pretty close as well, and with 33 megapixels, but I'd like to stay with Nikon because of the trust I have in the brand and my past experience with their equipment. However, a new camera for me would also mean jumping to a new ecosystem anyway, regardless of manufacturer, as my Nikkor DX lenses would perform poorly with FF Z cameras. Can you imagine putting an 18-200mm DX zoom on a Z7 with an FTZ adapter? Might as well keep my D7100! (And that lens is just barely ok anyway.) I'm not whining or complaining, I'll just have to stick with my old DSLR for a while longer, until, perhaps, the Zf ll comes out! 😁 My next camera has to be my last camera, at least for 10 years or so, should I live that long. I'm not a pro, so I can wait. Everyone else, have fun with this new toy!

@@danielvilliers612 I like to shoot a lot with the lcd tilted horizontaly but it seems like on this camera you need to have the lcd screen sticking out to the side to do that. Thats makes the camera twice as wide
