Super cute specimen boxes! And so glad you showed how the boxes can be fairly easily made using cardstock for those of us who don’t have a 3D printer. Although I do wonder if perhaps my public library would invest in one 🤔 The boxes could be made by just folding up the sides & tracing in a groove in the sides for the sliding lid using a butter knife or tiny dotting tool. A bone folder would be too thick I think
@99zanne Жыл бұрын
I was seeing cotton wool for the boxes to nestle into! Also, I think using the tiny match box style box would let the top “slide” and I could cut a window in the top for visibility - I’m NOWHERE as handy at building the tiny boxes as u r! TFS!

I figured out how to make small boxes with lids about ten years ago. Actually, when I got a diagnosis of uterine cancer in 2013, my brain went into lockdown to a point where I turned cereal boxes into smaller boxes for many days. Between the initial diagnosis and a treatment plan, I found comfort in cutting, scoring, folding and gluing. I think I will still know how to make boxes if I find myself demented. Anyway, I would make my specimen boxes from cereal boxes. I would punch or die cut a square opening for the top. It sounds like fun! Writing this I realized I have gone ten years without recurrence of cancer. I’m a lucky one! 🍄(representation of uterine cancer) (mirth)

Wow! I’m gobsmacked (one of my fave words I rarely get a chance to use lol) by the specimen boxes you created. They are just super cool for the lapbook. IMO, the Velcro was a great option for fastening them, I would use that or those tiny magnets. Thanks for showing how to do the specimen boxes with card stock as well. How fun that you got an opportunity to play with a 3D printer, I love love love everything you created with it …particularly the “shadow box” charms and typewriter keys. I’m really impressed you were able to do all that with no prior experience with 3D printing. Bravo!

The Velcro was a great idea! But if you’d just stuck the Velcro down & left the sticky bit exposed, you could have easily stuck down the box exactly where you want it even more easily 😊 Although you did make lining them up seem effortless, I’d have to measure so they didn’t go skewiff

oooOOOOOOO the ideas! Would either the clear 3D printed resin or the liquid resin from the bottle be clear enough to create a window for the specimen boxes? Like, could you switch the resin types throughout the printing of one design so the 1st 'layer' could be a black resin that lays out the structure of the frame and acts as a mold/reservoir to then fill in with clear? Now that I've typed it I realize some of the pendants you showed might have been done like this - gahh this thing would be seriously addicting

Oh my goodness!!! 1) Would you consider making those little boxes and selling them? 2) when you use the velcro, if you don't take them apart but put one of them on the back of the box (so they are still together) and then tear the backing off the other strip and put it down in the box there's a better chance of getting them exactly where you want them, and 3) do you sell those little tiny labels? this is fantastic!!!
@lindakilmer2548 Жыл бұрын
I’m drooling 🤤 🤤🤤🤤!! Are you planning on selling those on Etsy????😁
@madebylora Жыл бұрын
You asked for ideas about attaching the slides…. The Velcro is great idea but you might find it easier to line the slides up if you leave the hooks and loops stuck together on the back of your slides when you stick it in the box (so you wouldn’t have to measure gaps and line up with a ruler when attaching the hook parts in the box). That’s not very well explained but hope you make sense of my description.

Magnets? maybe use a magnetic sheet in the box, covered to look good of course, then put the tiny magnets on the specimen boxes? Not sure if the magnets will be 'attracted' to each other, but it sounds good. I also thought of snaps, and hook and eyes...just trying to think outside the box...I mean, inside the box....
@NiktheBooksmith Жыл бұрын
Funny you mention magnets, I tried those first. When I'm putting the Velcro on the bottom, you might notice a circular spot, that's where the magnets were! Ended up taking them off cuz I thought maybe not everyone would just have those lying around. Silly reason, I guess. Lol
