Nilahi Kothi Vishwania is situated at Vishwania village of Darauli block in Siwan district of Bihar. It is the place where british used to make nil or indigo from the plants of nil. The farming of indigo plant was a major bone of contention between british and local farmers.
British have made it mandatory to grow indigo in one third part of the land. The farming of nil or indigo used to make the soil infertile and it is what local farmers were against farming it. The farming of nil or indigo was done is major parts of Bihar and Bengal. Dr Rajendra Prasad who later become president of India was against the forced farming of nil or indigo. Due to his efforts, Raj Kumar Shukla invited Mahatma Gandhi to Champaran who launched a farmers movement here.
The nilahi Kothi or indigo factory of Vishwania is situated at a distance of 10 Km from Darauli, 12 Km from Mairwa and 30 Km from Siwan. Nilahi kothi has not been turned into a tourist place but it has all the potential of becoming one.
