I remember Nile Ranger back in 2012 when he was on loan at Sheffield Wednesday. He scored the goal that pretty much got us promoted to the championship and to celebrate he took his shirt off and his vest read "I'm a changed man" if only the man had taken his own advice. Great interview

This was a great interview. Watched the whole thing. Definitely the longest vid I've ever watched on youtube. All I knew about Ranger was he could play a bit and he was always in the news for the wrong reasons, never staying at a club for long. Nice to hear his take. Like everyones saying its so frustrating as Nile seems genuinely remorseful about his bad choices. Some of which you can put down to being young but then the fraud thing comes up and I'm thinking WTF WHY? And the gun celebration :| . Product of the environment and all that, even most of the charges you can see he didn't have the guidance around. The lateness thing is just a mess, it seems easily manageable but now he's not a kid anymore who is going to be bothered? You see some bang average footballers but they're always involved, because the appear to have the correct attitude. His talents can only take him so far. Wish him all the best.

@Fudge Dragon bit mean. I think he's a thick psychopath. Clever psychopaths are dangerous, stupid ones cause havoc. Everything positive Nile uses I, me, my... anything negative he expresses in the 3rd person... it's difficult, it's not easy, etc. Brian handles it well and tells the lad straight... stupidity is definitely his problem as it emerges in poor decision making and being easily led into drink, women, disrespect for those who help him, you name it - he will make the wrong decision time after time after time....

Nile Ranger is both a lesson to young footballers coming up in the world, and a timely reminder of what can happen to you when you come from a tough background. Growing up to be a rounded individual who can also handle the pressure of top level sport and the success/money/influence it brings must be an impossible thing to comprehend. You could never put it past the lad to one day fire a club back into the Premier League and get a swansong moment. The issue is, his time-keeping has to be addressed. I don't know if there is anything that can come into his life that will drive him enough. I don't think it would be fear... I think he needs a target, a goal for the remainder of his career that would burn inside him, out of control, so that he would wake up everyday and that goal be all he lives for. ...I don't know if he can find whatever that drive is. I do hope he can get away from his bad side of life long enough to make his Mum proud. If nothing else, he owes that woman for all she has gone through with him. Finally, i love Brian... But he is wrong about age (he may have said it just to push Nile but still)... You dont hit 30 and then with no plan its over for you. You can make a change for good anytime... But waiting or holding off will never get you any closer. Brilliant podcast. A huge step forward for Brian and Nile as people.

Genuinely fascinating interview. For me even more so as I suffer with the exact same issues with my sleep/work/life balance as Nile. I find myself having to nap halfway through the day after doing my work before I have my evening. I'm not far off his age either and for me it's almost a reset, like I need to separate my work self from my actual casual self. I'm sure we both can't be alone in this and I hope one day someone can explain whats going on and help improve the work life balance for people like us. If anyone reading this struggles with the same thing, please know you're not alone and that you can make the way your body functions work well for you. I find I'm more active and creative in the evenings than nearly anyone I know and while I struggle early in the morning I'm also capable of being just as highly functioning in the day as well.

I've great advice. Go in a corner, grab your shoulders and give yourself a good fucking shake. You need a nap halfway through the day? hahaha. I can imagine telling my boss I'm going for a nap to find my balance. Fucking soft as shite snowflakes. harden the fuck up you clown.

Loved this! He’s the british version of Fabio Paim, he used to be a big star growing up, even Cristiano Ronaldo said that Paim was better than him but he lost himself with the amount of money and girls he was getting at a young age. He’s like 28/29 now and trying to get back to football again. Loved this episode!

Paim was crap when he was on loan coz he was annoyed that he wouldn’t get a chance in Sporting’s first team but his talent was ridiculous and unique. Quaresma moved too barcelona way too young and couldn’t stay focused, he ended up partying a lot and he didn’t have the best attitude either
