One of the Most Under-rated Guitar Players on the planet. Nile " The Hitmaker " knows his Music Theory and is a phenomenal player and Producer. I had the pleasure of taking a few of his music production classes in NYC, ( also ) meeting & Hanging-out with him several times in NYC Clubs. He is So Real, & Down to Earth. A Super Cool Guy. One of my Major Influences. Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards ( R.I.P. ) & Tony Thompson ( R.I.P. ) are to R&B, - what Led Zeppelin is to Classic Rock. All are Music Legends !!! - Michael Caz - NYC -

Excellent interview. Thank you for asking great questions and just letting the master talk! Far too many interviews have way too much of the interviewer involved. Thank you for this and keep up the great work!

Yes, not just a big hero of mine for his upstanding beastly" rhythm guitar playing but a very clever musical/producer mind too! Alongside the GREAT chic' bassist Bernard Edwards RIP, as a small child these guys were the anthem in my heartbeat, such is there legendary brilliance!!!......... My dad used to absolutely slaughter their slammin' melodic grooves on the sound system at home!... lol ...... (da shit's still ringin' in my ears) ha-ha-ha........and now i'm grown, CHIC'S music is still as soulful and powerful as it ever was! ........ Maybe one sweet day i'll get a chance to work with your creative brilliance!?? ...Thank you NILE & BERNARD for your loving cosmic vibrations..... Shii-Bwoy from Friskyfunk-Band!!! (UK) PEACE!!!

Really cool interview. I noticed he was talking about the Roland Space Echo but it seems he was actually describing the operation of the UA 1176 compressor. The four buttons you push in at the same time are the Ratio buttons and kind of a "hidden operation" because the buttons were made to be pressed one at a time. A lot of producers call this "British Mode" or "Nuke Mode". I can't tell what it's doing either lol but it sounds great and you can certainly tell the difference if you turn it off just like he described.

I think he meant the compressor with all the buttons pushed in... Echo machines don't have such buttons but knobs... However I would give all my synths and echo machines away for his guitar and skills...

1176 I think that compressor is. Gives an infinite ratio

From what I've read & heard, he mainly plugs straight into a D.I. box / mixing desk. On those early Chic records, there isn't really even any reverb.

I personally think the work he did with srv was a bit too much ssl dynamics, the drum kit is hitting too hard for a blues album imo. I understand that giving an artist a new sound , a sound from a new producer and studio is hard too find, but imo it doesn't go too well with blues.. Maybe if they mixed on a never the album sounded very different and created more space for stevie to get in the blues vibes..

Pushing in all the buttons on the Roland Space Echo? Are there any buttons on that unit? Isn't he meaning the 1176 or something? Or does he not have a clue what he is talking about?
@HandsUpDK10 жыл бұрын
Malcolm Little that doesn't mean you know about the technical side of things... And I have seen one of those units and I don't recall them having any buttons.
@mallit10 жыл бұрын
I used to have one, and could work it as well. It makes no difference, it`s unimportant, i just find it weird that you`d want to diss such a respected artist. Ha d the Chorus echo also.
@JimijaymesProductions10 жыл бұрын
I assume he is talking about the Chorus Echo cos that does have buttons stuff like that is always interesting using gear how it isnt intended like the afformentioned 1176
@robvoyles9 жыл бұрын
he's Nile Rodgers......he has more than a clue.
@HandsUpDK9 жыл бұрын
The Chorus Echo doesnt have an 'alm button in' option however, which was what he was talking about. And just because hes Nile Rodgers doesnt mean he knows shit about gear. Producers back then didnt know much about gear but they knew how to produce a song

Um no ... Nile is a con man, nothing more. I don't mean that in the bad way. Nile had to hustle to get things done and got lied to along the way. It's not easy to explain in one sentence, the main issue is the lies he got told about music by that liar Darwin. We CAN fix that. Messianic people know the situation. So do the moor people. They will help me get the Nile we need. "Aka NO to Egypt and thank Egypt." Let's not forget Nile wants to be first and I'm doing everything I can to get him there.
