Lithium carbonate is a very useful medication used to treat bipolar disorder. In this video, I will be making lithium carbonate, first from lithium hydroxide and then from a battery.
Keep in mind that lithium salts affect the nervous system and working with lithium metal can be dangerous. This video is for educational purposes only and should not be repeated!
Also, adding lithium metal to water is dangerous. It can lead to a serious fire. Again, please do not repeat this.

Fun fact: when 7-Up was first brewed and sold (as a patent medicine called Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Carbonated Soda), some of the people who drank it regularly reported feeling a little calmer. As it turns out, this is because it contained lithium citrate, an actual mood stabilizer drug. The drink actually played a small part in the discovery and development of lithium in pharmaceuticals!

There were hundreds of Lithiated sodas and mineral waters before that and even over the counter lithium but all that stopped ironically two months after Dr, Cade in Australia discovered the efficacy of lithium for mood stabilization.

When I started learning about programming, I had a classmate with bipolar disorder. He was the one who explained variables to me in a way I could understand (I have ADHD, so sometimes it takes me longer to understand abstract things). He quickly picked up I was unable to understand these types of things as fast as the rest, so he made an example using boxes (the variables) and putting something in it (the values). My mind finally understood what he meant, and from that point forward he helped me understand things in programming. Sadly, he didn't finish the programming course, and he was gone by the second year because of his own disorder. Thank you so much for bringing awareness to bipolar disorder.

People with mild forms of Bipolar disorder are often misdiagnosed as having high anxiety and depression, and only the more severe cases get noticed a lot of the time. The truth is, it's actually not as uncommon as you might think, and as mental health is treated with more respect we are seeing more cases of mental illnesses being diagnosed.

Her it is explained thoroughly and paired with reasoning and examples making it far easier to comprehend and much more entertaining I get excited about watching it I feel if demonstrations and videos like this were shown in schools all around the United States and other countries kids would take far more interest in things that they traditionally don’t see interesting most kids learn more by seeing than by reading words in a book and if you can show them examples and apply it to real life scenarios they are far more likely to retain that information then they are having it preached to them

I have bipolar 2 (in remission yay) and I'm really grateful I don't have to take lithium and I'm on Lamictal instead (which is one of the anticonvulsants). I've heard plenty of horror stories about lithium. I've been watching these videos a lot recently and I think they're super interesting! I'm on lamictal as well, it's done wonders for me. Haven't had a manic episode since i've started taking it, a few very hypomanic but they were controllable for the most part. Before I got on the right medication I had a manic episode that was so bad that I traded in my car and got a 14,000 car. Still paying that off.

Well to be honest he just talked about the basic medically relevant observations for people with such disorders and it had quite a few mistakes or oversimplifications. The actual experience is a much darker and disturbing story which can easily destroy the whole life of the affected if not diagnosed and treated soon after symptoms first appear. I hope you are getting the care you need and are able to have a somewhat normal life. I got to know a couple of people with BPD during my stays at a psychiatric hospital and from what I learned, while bipolar can be hard I much prefer it over BPD. How hard life for people with BPD can be makes it all the more amazing when people that have it can keep up with it and life. And that can be simple things like just doing somewhat ok and managing simple things about life while being in a hospital.

You can also make irrational decisions like quiting your job, starting projects you wont be able to finish or are unqualified for and at worst, jump out a window thinking you're invincible. So it feels nice but it ain't nice cause it ain't you. Also the greater the Manic episode the worse the depressive state that follows. If there was a way to stay in a mild, stable, manic episode it would be great but untill then. It sucks.

@@cube2fox I was diagnosed with depression but not bipolarism because i opted not to tell them about my Manic episode cause i was somewhat ashmed of it, i probably should get myself checked tbh. Took antidepressants, it worked for a while but started to make things worse later with some crazy moodswings. But yes i have experience with Mania, it lasted a bit longer then a week almost two, it felt amazing, i felt like an actual God looking down on people. I said and did some bad stuff during my Manic episode, stuff i regret saying today, luckly it was mostly directed at my family so they understood... Also read and wrote alot, could only sleep for 4-2 hours a night and made a bunch of irrational decisions, still have most of the stuff i wrote as a reminder of how bad things can get if im not careful, i threw away the rest cause it was too crazy for me to handle. Reading it feels like reading something a psychotic person you don't know wrote, but i try not to since it can be a trigger. I mostly only get some hypomania at times, sleep little, racing thoughts, hard to focus, elevated mood, scuffed appetite, talk alot of crazy nonsense and some hyperactivity at times, but most of the times im usually depressed. It wears one out with time you know, cause you can't be consistent with anything due to the fluctuating moods, sleep patterns, appetite, and general lack of focus that develops over time. You drift away from people, avoiding them for months only to show up again when elevated, it tears on your relationships. The worst part is the anxiety, anxiety pills don't help either. The triggers to Mania and depression involves things like stress, and since you have elevated cortisol it means you're more susceptible to stress, so alot of things end up being "triggers" even minor mundane things. If not careful my hypomania could lead to full blown Mania, then god knows wtf i'll end up doing. But yeah, sorry for the long post.

I was on lithium with Prozac for a year and a half, lithium also works as an augmenter with other anti depressants because of its mood stabilizing properties :) happily now off of them and doing very well 💕 don’t be afraid to ask for help and talk about your mental health 💕

Hawaiian baby woodrose. It's not a secret. Morning glory is easier to get. Grind them up and put it in ice water. Keep the water cold. Let it turn slightly pink and filter out the solids. The LSA is now extracted in the water. The solids from morning glory seeds will make you quite sick. Some morning glory seeds may be covered in antifungal crap too.. LSA is not a good substitute for actual LSD. It's more of a disassociative and depressant than a hallucinogen or psychedelic. It will lower your seizure threshold a lot. Overall not very enjoyable.

I was with a ype 1 for a long time. Our relationship lasted for years, and she had the kindest heart ever. She took lithium for all the time I was with her, and she had to have regular enzyme test. Type 1 eventually took her life. I pray for all those that struggle with it.

I have Type 2 Bipolar, so I found this extremely interesting. ADHD medication is enough to help with it myself but I've been curious what something like lithium would do for myself.

If ADHD meds are enough then you might want to explore that more as you may not be bipolar at all. Misdiagnosis is rampant as hyperactivity is often mistaken as mania.

Thank you for going into details about the condition at the start, I didn't know a lot of this info. My uncle took his life about 10 years ago, he went undiagnosed for a very long time and during his mania phases the family actually thought he was using cocaine or something like that ( He ended up getting diagnosed Type 2 towards the end but didn't tell anyone bc he was embarrased) We found out post mortem from the autopsy that he was using bipolar meds but apprantly ran out and his insurance didn't cover it and he always didnt tell anyone so we could help. They also found Chantix (a drug to help quit smoking) but that Chantix appatantly had a somewhat high rate of suicidal tendancies especially with bipolar or depressed people and ofc he didn't tell anyone he was taking it or that he was diagnosed so it was a bad situation all around. Anyways sorry for the essay lol I just appriciated the intro and made me think of the story :-)

@@jordie2772 For what? I know many ppl would throw rocks at me for saying this but i would say avoid any medication for psychological issues unless you're on the brink of suicide. The doctors themselves warns that these pills are only effective as long as you're taking them and they're supposed to be taken for lifetime. They're not a cure. Therapy, Motivation & Self-Discipline for changing your lifestyle into a better one is far more effective, i had taken SSRI's in the past for like half year and it made everything worse after i quit them + had no effect when i was on them whatsoever, now i'm clean for over 5 years. I only drink beer occasionally.
