When we lived in the San Ramon Valley in the late 80's, I had the pleasure of taking an excursion on the Niles Canyon Railway with my 2 year old son (he's 33 now); we both loved it! Congratulations on your continued existence!

Good job keeping these old relics running. I didn't even know about the Krauss-Maffei ML 4000 until recently, and you have the only remaining example. And it evens runs. Amazing.

My dad was a groundskeeper at the PLA for a few years during my youth. Playing and crawling around the equipment definitely made for an enjoyable and unique childhood!

I have a correction for the mallet type steam locomotives. He said that there were 3 of that type running. Their are actually 4 of them running and 2 of them are with the Black Hills Central Railroad. BHC 110 and recently restored BHC 108. Still a cool video to see what projects are in progess. Great Work. Hope to visit Niles Canyon Railway someday.

Nice, good to see things are going good there. Practically in my own backyard.

I enjoy this video. Here is a idea that might help you get some money is to have night photography and photography in the yard getting roster shot of the locomotives, freight cars passenger cars and caboose. That will help you get more money and photographers would enjoy paying money to do these items if you can set something up like that on the weekends.

hope the work on 1744 goes well so she'll be operational in a few years.

This was awesome! Thanks for filming and putting this together, John! Very cool historic railroad! I'd actually seen restoration work and trial videos of that big hydraulic locomotive but didn't view much about the actual railroad that did the work. I envy your opportunities you have out there in CA to visit and document places like that.

Thanks Shane! I'm just trying to find interesting things I can share with the world. I'm lucky to be in a place where there are a lot of those kinds of things, but I suspect that if I lived elsewhere, I'd find similar things. I think interesting things are everywhere but you have to seek them out.

Has all the smoke in the area dampened the September run weekends?
@oakrail81004 жыл бұрын
Probably Not
@tsgmultimedia4 жыл бұрын
I don't know if the smoke is affecting their ticket sales, but it definitely is smokey out here this weekend. Next weekend is supposed to be better with less smoke. We'll see if that happens!

The Chiggen locomotive was only in niles for a week, as it then went to Oregon and now is at the Placerville Sacramento railroad I believe
@tsgmultimedia4 жыл бұрын
This is correct. The Placerville & Sacramento Valley Railroad took delivery of the Chiggen a few months ago. I did a pretty extensive interview of the people involved right here on the channel earlier this year. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX6omqOjbrmtf7c
