How far technology has come to make Jungle Joyride to become not a mess in the Framerate department. When Sonic Unleashed was released, it was the worlds most beautiful jungle slideshow anyone has ever seen. I think I saw slowdown when lasers were being shot at Sonic from three different robots in lanes, but at least it wasn’t throughout the entire level. Sonic Unleashed came out in 2008, and this shows it was way ahead of its time. Unleashed has the second highest polygon count model for Sonic, the first being Forces, and everything was scaled down in Forces making it easier to run. Unleashed is art. Hedgehog Engine for life.

After Unleashed, no modern/boost game wasn't be able top it. (well Gens come close). Forces was such a mess, a letdown. Unleashed has up to this date, beautiful, crystal-clear and strong opening. High-action packed and challenging levels (Jungle Joyride is my fav one). Good story, replayability, etc. Im hoping and crossing fingers on Frontiers to be a decent one.

The constant, “go” “yeah” and “grunt”s while you boost and jump combined with the fast paced music and boost sound effects make this level and honestly all of sonic unleashed day stages so exhilarating. Love the game so much, and honestly I hate to say it but this level beats rooftop run for me, better music and more challenging. But way more beautiful and rewarding

I'm glad we can finally play this game without crazy ass frame rate drops...14 YEARS LATER!!! Sonic Unleashed is still, IN MY OPINION, the most fun and best Sonic game with the best story to rival SA2, best gameplay/stages, one of the best bangers of a theme song that is "Endless Possibilities" for Unleashed that once again IN MY OPINION, was equally just as good as "Live and Learn" for SA2 and "His World" from Sonic 06 and once again to reiterate, because people are literally crazy, THESE ARE OPINIONS AND THEY'RE MY OPINIONS! It's a shame Unleashed wasn't really well received when it first came out, thanks to the Ware-Hog stages mostly, because reviews would praise the hell out of boost day stages (which at this point I wonder if they just seemed better by comparison) but would absolutely shit on nighttime stages and their length without certain checkpoints (WHICH WAS A VERY VALID POINT BECAUSE SOMETIMES YOU'D DIE RIGHT AT THE END OF A 35 MINUTE LEVEL ONLY TO RETURN 25 MINUTES BACKWARDS!). Even though I didn't think the nighttime stages were bad gameplay wise, especially if you unlocked the super fun combos and powers, THE BATTLE MUSIC WAS HORRENDOUSLY BAD!! It drowned out all the fun nighttime music in favor of the same constant basic ass jazz loop over and over and OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN UNTIL IT DROWNED OUT ALL THE FUN NIGHTTIME MUSIC AND HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY BURNED INTO MY BRAIN. Instead of giving the stage music a chance in the spotlight therefore giving US a break from that damn jazz music they instead opted to kill our ears with that same jazz loop constantly instead of providing us with some fun variety by letting the regular music play OR if we MUST have Jazz then hear me out, GIVING THE NIGHTTIME STAGES EACH A UNIQUE JAZZ COMPOSITION OF THEIR STAGE'S THEME FOR BATTLE!! It was weird to me that a Sonic game for once didn't have amazing music EVERYWHERE like it normally does but Unleashed still had plenty of bangers nonetheless.

@@ultraninja_19 yeaaa he got me in the ass the first few times too. but that's what i like about it, instead of simply jumping and pressing X, you time your jump around it and attack it from the sides. they shoot straight towards Sonic's path. so when you jump in 1 direction and redirect the other way, you can evade it :) i love the fact that they have variety in enemies. even if it's not a lot! it still makes think while playing, instead of mindlessly boosting and homing attacking.

A bit of context: For those who keep saying it took 14 years and 2 Generations of Consoles to run this game without the machines getting rekt... More like 6 years actually. A mod for Sonic Generations ported Unleashed levels into the game. at the time I got my hands on the mod, I was a running a GTX 750 Ti. This card is basically a 720p budget gaming card. but it can run this level with no drops in performance AT ALL!!! Not even the leafy jungle sections can bring down the 750 Ti. this was a card in 2014. Do note that Unleashed was released back in 2008. and the Xbox 360 and PS3 at that point was at least 3 years old. 2007 was when Crysis came out, and I guess some environment artists were pushing the limits of what the hardware can do.

I finally have a display that can show HDR, that being my Samsung Galaxy Note 20 ultra and holy cow the HDR on this is way too bright for my liking. I feel like this game could really benefit from us stunning HDR implementation, but the auto HDR feature on the series consoles needs to be a bit more dialed in for this game.

Respectfully disagree. I think the lighting and art direction hard carry Unleashed visually, and the use of motion blur does a decent job hiding the rough spots, but when you stop and look at things though, the game's age definitely starts to show. The environment textures are incredibly smeary and ugly looking and shadows are also lacking anti-aliasing and incredibly blocky, and this is on top of the game running at a low resolution, making the overall image look even more undefined. I think Generations on PC, Lost World, Forces, and Frontiers look better by a wide margin.

@@TheBlueTyphoon17 stopped reading when you said the art style “hard carried” unleashed ; that’s *literally* all it takes for a game to look good and aesthetically better than a game with a bunch of wasted pixels and resolution because the art is ugly . the art style is literally the most important aspect of a games graphics and how well it ages . frontiers has no aesthetic appeal and looks like the graphics have been stripped naked and the lack of lightening and good animation makes it worse . not to mention the lack of motion blur - you absolutely can’t tell me that the jump animation in unleashed , and the blue aura trail he leaves behind him from homing attacks isn’t better than frontiers . the attention to aesthetic in unleashed is unmatched , and the boosting is still the fastest and the prettiest . the motion blur + aesthetic + lightening = best looking sonic game to date

Adabat seems really forgiving with the ring count for s ranks compared to say Chu Nan and especially Shamar. Just look at how many rings this dude got from Adabat. Over 1000!!! This is also probably why you only get an extra life the first time you breach 100 rings.

I hate to say it but this game was WAY too ambitious for its time. The game was brimming with potential to be a graphical masterpiece for the ages and it’s all there. The absolutely robust environments, the high poly models, the lighting and speeds at which you could run at. It’s a shame the game doesn’t even run at HD, the framerate is absolutely awful and how smeary most of the textures are. Just the HDR and 60fps has done a lot to make the game more timeless, imagine if Sega could patch the resolution to 4K.

This is an incredibly misinformed comment. That's just not how it works in the slightest, Forces looks worse because of poor art style, graphically, it's far more advanced than Unleashed ever was. Textures and models are far more detailed, shading is better, it would not have run on the 360 AT ALL.
