Why does the dialog box pop up so late for you? Mine blinks for a split second as I pass the start and then it's gone.

How do you start it on the run like that? Just hit enter?

Gotta be. I know if you stand next to the pole and mount on a Griffon it brings up that menu automatically, so the trick must be to start as close as possible to the first check mark while carrying speed.
