Isnt Tharavadu term used only for Nair homes( the common residence for the matrilineal joint family under the Marumakkathayam system)? It's almost like saying traditional Christian Illam. As far as I know there is no matrilineal system among any sects of Christians in Kerala. Although there are some North malabar Muslim families who used to follow matriarchy and they termed their homes as Muslim Thravadu. It's a beautiful home nevertheless ,thank you for sharing

Being a Nair myself, I dnt call my father's or mother's ancestral home Tharavadu, because Nairs themselves dnt follow matriarchy anymore. That matriarchy system ended with my grand parents generation itself. We call it Achante Veedu , Ammede Veedu for father's , mother's home respectively
