To those wondering if we'll even get a splatoon 4 at all. I'll say the exact same thing I said when splatoon 3 was up in the air: This franchise, despite how new it is, has already climbed up to be one of Nintendos most popular / best selling franchises (obviously nowhere near mario, but still). Just looking at it from a money perspective, as a company like Nintendo would, there is absolutely no way they WON'T make more games. This is Nintendo we're talking about, they're gonna milk this series for everything it has, just like their other titles. Also in terms of story, What I personally think they mean by splat3 being the end of this arc is specifically the gimmick of the great Zapfish going missing, and just, in general fighting octarians. I think there's a good chance we'll continue with the agents, cuttlefish, and octavio. But they'll all be working together against a totally new threat (probably lil Judd tbh).

I would love for you to be able to change the colors of your gear. Instead of for example a blue shirt being diffrent from an identical green shirt. You can just change the color of gear. Also being able to color your finger tips and tentacle tips would be cool. I would also love being able to add lashes and freckles to your inkfish. Heterochromia would also be pretty cool

For gear, we need a cosmetic mode option when putting on gear, kind of like the "use only stats" thing from Miitopia when you get a new weapon or outfit. Its basically where people can equip gear with abilities, but if they want they can cover it up with another gear owned but instead of its abilities also being used it only serves for looks and fashion. Its so that you look like you are wearing a gear but turns out you are actually wearing another gear behind it that only has its abilities used. Yes, i know you can change the main ability of gear with a certain amount of chunks of the ability it will be changed to, but i dont wanna spend all of my time grinding for chunks only so i can get perfect run speed up for my Aux Boxes, i wanna look fresh while having perfect gear at the same timeeeeee

I think Nintendo should take some inspiration from the project splatoon 3 concept from stuff like player hair customization/style selection, clothing and shoes to new gamemodes (offline and online) and possibly a new playable species (of course inklings/octolings still being in the picture). I know Splatoon 3’s story mode was good and had a decent length to it, but I really wish Nintendo could make a more longer and bigger story mode for Splatoon 4 without having the recurring floating platforms and stuff like that.

I CAN make a small theory here. Lets "allegedly" say that the dev team is REALLY fed up with the hardware limitation of the Switch. I mean it's safe to assume that because of the Wii U into the Switch. I mean with leaks of Switch 2 having somewhat of the a mid ground specs of PS4 and 5 it leaves TONS of room for better gameplay and graphics. I also have a personal theory that Splatoon 4 is going to be Salmon Run themed or Salmonid in general. I mean lets face it we all had frame drops in Salmon Run due to too many spawn. My proof as well for this theory? Lets look back at Splatoon 2. Ruins of Ark Polaris was the LAST map we got and if we look back at the map the bear signs were (most likely from salmonids) warning others of Mr.Grizz, on top of that we see the SAME space shuttle in the background that killed all the humans. Alterna. That is confirmed in the Splat 3 Alterna logs in the story. Now if the very LAST map of Salmon Run hinted at Splat3 story mode we can also safely assume that they COULD do it again. Also note to add someone else made a theory saying with each new Salmon Run map we have been going deeper into Salmonid territory and with Bonerattle Arena this proves that theory even more.

I actually have two ideas for gimmicks for the roller class. One was to use the roller to launch the player into the air higher than a normal jump by hand standing on its horizontal form and switching to its vertical form. The other idea was the option to swing the roller like a bat providing the possibility to bat a teammate's splat, suction, or fizzy bomb in another direction.

I do agree with everything that you said. The splatfests seem kind of meh so far, but the platoon team seems to be learning from their mistakes with the introduction of the Fizzbang. I'm thinking that the newest game could take place in a kind of suburb area. The whole idea of having new mechanics for different weapon classes is pretty good. My ideas for the weapon class mechanics are: a way to charge your weapon to fire a single big shot (kind of like a blaster) for shooters, for rollers a way to do a charging forward attack that carries you a long distance for better mobility, for chargers maybe a "pushback" mechanic that fires a blast around you to knockback foes if you are surrounded. Just ideas though!

I am a serious enemy-character-design-appreciation-nerd and would love to see some new enemies apart from octarians. Remember those shark pirates? How cool would that be! Perhaps a monster crab that wants to make a home out of the previously-discussed island, a gang of seagulls picking on I&O from above, dirty dolphins that believe to be the human's successor but those are all the sea-related ideas. My personal favourite Splatoon villain was Mr Grizz because people theorized it would be him. He wanted mammals to rule the world again. What if we had cats that would terrorize the residence of S4, Snakes that only wanted to survive resorting to eating their only available food-I&O- or (my personal favourite) monkeys that evolved into humans again, pledging war against the cephalopod race.

I think that a new environment for splatoon 4 instead of an island, could be something like the slums or something of the sort. Since you mentioned how there has been a repetitive cycle of new cities, instead of cities we could get more of a town or a suburban place with not as bougie items or shops, maybe a story about trying to get to the famed cities in the past games but getting caught up in something else while trying to get to these cities. Just a rough draft of another possibility though the games have a happy aesthetic and a different type of story or environment may not be in favor of the player base.

Dude I highly agree with the ideas you had in mind, like having maybe a couple modes inspired by Call of Duty sounds like fun like the "Search and Destroy" or a "Splat All with the Last Squid or Octo Standing" or inspiration from Fortnight of having a battle royal but it's called "Splattle Royal" (love the name too by the way X3 👍). And having the Splatfests be brought back to only two teams would be nice too, because as much as I still love attending Splatfests, it just feels SO stressful and people on Twitter keep getting more and more toxic whenever a Splatfest is now either announced, being toxic during the Splatfests, and especially salty and toxic when the results hit. And Splatfests in general especially in Splatoon 2, used to be really fun and were something to look forward to whenever they were announced, especially the Shifty Stations that really made the event super fun and special and why I loved the Splatfests so much, because nowadays people are starting to lose interest in attending Splatfests in Splatoon 3. So yeah hopefully Nintendo fixes their Splatfests so that they're fun and exciting again, because I really don't want to lose my interest in Splatfests. Also yes 2026 or 2027 sounds about right for a 4th Splatoon game, that is IF they make another one, as well as whenever the second Switch console will be released. I reckon an implementation of a deathmatch or Battle Royale mode in Splatoon would be somewhat tricky, due to how fast-paced Splatoon tends to be, particularly in how quick you can die in the game, as well. Quick deaths are fine in the current modes what with quick respawn times and non-killcount-related objectives, but a strict Battle Royale mode would need to do something such implementing extra lives or armour from single-player to make "getting sent back to the lobby" a bit less swift, and deathmatch mode could feel quite terrible in the case of skill gaps between teams, feeding teammates (or self) or bad weapon match-ups. Due to the inherent advantages some weapons have over others (range, paint, etc.), also, something like a Battle Royale mode would have to do something with the weapon system to make things more fair, whether that be by giving every player the same weapon, or random weapons, or allowing players to hold multiple weapons in an inventory (which would be pretty sick, actually). I would really like to see Nintendo take a stab at such modes despite these problems, since seeing how they'd fix them, ideally, would be cool.

Idea for making turfwar better / more fun They should add gimmicks like walls give paint, everyone swims faster, fast charging special or chests that drop shields, ink tanks or even instant specials. Match quests: Example: the team that got the most splats gets + 300 paint. I think things like this can make splatoon feel more fresh and fun.

Heres my idea for a final splashdown rework, and here me out: *Soaring Splashdown:* You will be given a wide marker, like what shows when you use Super Chump. You can select any location within about an E-Liter's range with R. You will do a super jump to that location and slam into the ground or wall. Other players will still see where you are about to splashdown to. Additionally, Stealth Super Jump will make the radius marker that other players can see much fainter, and Drop Roller will work on this special, since the special involves super-jumping to your location. Note that this special can't be used during another super jump, since it already contains a super jump. this is a good rework, since it covers distance, while still keeping you safe.

Even if there was at some point, they were probably cancelled. Ntm according to the game's files Side Order was originally supposed to release with Drizzle Season 2023 (with the missing Splat 2 gear as well) but got delayed internally to Chill Season 23/24 and then again to its release date just before Fresh Season 24. It feels like Side Order had a troubled development given how long it took for a relatively short DLC (that doesn't make it bad tho) to release.

@@jvdos In the 2023 February direct, where they first revealed the Expansion Pass for Splatoon 3, there was a shot where there are 4 stacked banners, the front one saying something like "Wave 1: Inkopolis Plaza", while the other 3 are hidden behind. Plus, the logo for the pass also has 4 ink splats in it, which confirms my theory that we're gonna get 2 more Waves after Side Order, most likely going to be revealed in a later Direct. One other thing, the train station and the large gate in Splatsville both had the same red banners blocking the entrance. However, one of them was removed when you can now use the train station in Fresh Season 2023, but the one at the large gate is still there, which I'm guessing will be for the soon-to-be-announced Deep Cut DLC.

I think what’s going to happen is the entire storyline of Splatoon will change. For example, let’s say humans created the Cristal’s and all that happened but their still alive or it’s just an alternate reality of the Splatoon world.

Splattle Royal could be an interesting mode, but hopefully keeps the respawn aspects of all the other game modes. Instead of one storm, the map gradually shrinks to several smaller areas confining you to 4 v 4 at the smallest. The idea of an island as the hub instead of a city is cool though.

Honestly not if it doesn't innovate I think splatoon should have a rocket league mode (especially if they have ball physics as shown in side order) Splatoon should have a race mode. Salmon run should have a mode that has two trams face each other to collect eggs. You should be able to steal eggs from the other team and kill their salmon.

We need more maps like the splatfest maps from splatoon 2, and (don’t hate me) but instead of the center being up, what about going down? Specifically like Moray Towers. And for a new story, what if it was more of an open world where two antagonists joined together or an agent turned bad? And I like how they brought back Inkopolis, and the idea of an island, but about a plane? We’ve had a train, a rocket, an underground civilization? I could go on but this comment is already long enough.

And what if we had our own customizable apartment? Or lockers but bigger. And what if we could make our own weapons and a large cost? And new splatfest-specific game modes, like ranked: splatfest style. A new species would be cool, but it also kinda defeats the whole lore of the Turf War between octolings and inklings, but a secret society would be cool. Also, pets! Maybe some little helpers like Pearl from side order could wander around and help you take turf, whether they be different species, robots, salmonoids, etc. It would also be cool if they updated their stuff that already exists. I’m not talking about just adding new maps to turf war, I’m talking about adding whole new forms of transportation in everything-like a tube or something, sewer lines, etc-new types of Salmonoid bosses instead of just adding a new harder king, new night modes occasionally, new ranked modes, new weapon types-like a disc or something-and especially, more story mode content (in splatoon 4). Emoting mid game could also just be cool to help guide your teammates and stuff (gonna get abused like squidbagging), and just a few minor details could be part of updates, like a drone camera of what the person you splatted sees.

The splatoon 3 team ask before this game came out, they asked if we Want a battle Royale mode and the majority said no, therefore we didn't get br mode, we were robbed. I don't know why a lot of people wants to get less instead of more.

We don't need another Splatoon with the same recycled gameplay from the previous game as a sort of Splatoon 4.0 since there are better games that we still waiting on the Switch since 7 years like Metroid Prime 4 and Star Fox so Splatoon 4 is far away to be a priority ;)

The one thing I don't want is them to make a battlepass (I mean we kinda got the catalog, but at least that's free) because they already take a lot of our money normally. But A new species, like sharklings or something would be really cool. I honestly don't play the splatfest much either some of that being boring topics for the region, while Japan gets all the fun ones apparently. Take some inspiration from the fan-made project, Project Splatoon 3. A lot of the things they came up with were really cool, especially all the different tentacle (hair) customization and variants. I just hope whatever comes next will be great. (Another Final Splatfest in the future about 3 possible ideas they have for the next game would be interesting)

The issue with adding bigger Maps and Game Modes is 1- The console itself. We don't know how this console is going to be and what specs it's going to have 2- How can you make those maps so Children (because this game, like it or not, is designed for Children which is Nintendo's biggest target with their consoles) do not get fully lost while traveling in it towards the objective and how the objective of that mode can be easy to understand for Children specially younger ones I do agree in one thing though: All modes should be accessed by casuals and pros alike As for the setting. Well this has been a concept that has been running for Splatoon 3 even. So it's not far-fetched As for having an Adventure Mode for Story. This is an idea that has crossed my mind. Nintendo should implement something like we have in Super Mario Odyssey (A collection of several Islands or Territories that you can explore (with Enemies, Challenges, collectibles and the like) connected between each other with a mode of transportation). One thing's for certain though, Characters from the Previous entries will come back in Splatoon 4. That's unavoidable.

The thing Splatoon needs the most is free map selection like in Mario Kart. 2-map-rotations were bad in Splatoon 1 and are bad today. Also I agree on the Shifty Stations. It's a shame the devs scratched them completely from Splatoon 3. Splatfests were a lot more fun back in Splatoon 2 thanks to these unique Turf War maps. Tricolor battle isn't too bad, too, but usually not available on Saturday evening when I prefer to play.

One thing I want with story mode of Splatoon is that we play the great Splat war. we get Octavio and Cuttlefish, we see the ancestors of the modern characters, and the musical protagonists make music something close to the 50s & 60s, giving us a new era of Splat music

If I had to pick one thing I'd like from a new Splatoon game, I'd say customizing the type of cephalopod you are. Folks, I know some people want Salmonlings to be a thing. They probably aren't happening. But we've seen flapjack octopus octolings, ringed octopus octolings, and Frye is literally based off of a Vampire Squid. Just this handful of extra cosmetic changes would be great. Imagine, the sheer explosion of people playing as Flapjack Octopus Octolings at launch because of how silly they look! It'll be *AMAZING.*

Now that the trilogy is over, I think the possibility of the next game being a spinoff or different type of shooter is much, MUCH higher. One idea I had was Salmon Run becoming its own hero shooter; something similar to Garden Warfare, as an example. I know I would play it obsessively if it existed

I’m more hoping for a splatoon spin-off game. I think side-order might be a test for a spin-off since it was a roguelike, much different form the gameplay of Octo expansion and the main splatoon 3 campaign. They could be just testing a roguelike approach for the splatoon 4 campaign, but I highly doubt it. I think (or at least hope) that the next game will be a roguelike spin-off game or a spin-off in general. Since Splatoon is huge in Japan and pretty big in the west, I think Nintendo could afford to take a break from the main series and take a chance with a spin-off. I’m not betting money on it though, since instead of choosing the home console or mobile console and putting resources into one of the other, the home console and mobile console are now one and the same with the switch, so a main series or spin-off will require the same amount of time and resources, and I’m not sure if Nintendo is as willing to take chances on something that might not do as well as a main series game, especially not something with different gameplay. Then again, Nintendo did make Princess peach showtime, a sort-of sequel to super princess peach, a game which is 19 years old as of writing this, so who knows? Basically if Splatoon 4 is going to be a soft reboot type thing, a spin-off seems like the way to go. Also considering how important music is important to the lore of the game, they could also easily do a rhythm based spin-off where your player character becomes an idol and you can customize them.

I'm just throwing this out here: now that the Inkling VS Octarian plot is over, I think Splatoon 4 should take place in Octo Valley. Turquoise October fills the role of the main band with an Octarian spin on Now or Never, the new idols consist of an Elite Rival and Sanitized Octoling, and the new hub world uses ink rails and jump pads to reach the floating rocks the shops and battle tower are on, and of course lots of story mode-inspired battle maps. Imagine the potential map designs that can arise with Octarian tech removing the need to worry about pesky things like "gravity." We could even have it so the Inklings and Octarians worked together on reverse engineering human tech from Deep Sea Metro and Alterna, giving us possible settings like fighting over a giant GameCube while N64 controllers float with their cords looping over the battlefield. And a battle tower built from pieces salvaged from Arc Polaris and Tartar's doomsday weapon. And we'd get so much lore on Octarian society and culture with octo-run shops, ESPECIALLY an Octarian equivalent of Ammo Knights that ISN'T run by Sheldon for the 4th time in a row.

I honestly don't want another Splatoon 4 game. Splatoon 3 is enough, I'm at the point of being burnt out. The FOMO catalogue selection kinda sucks and the RNG in the gatcha machine is unrelenting and unrewarding especially when you get x99 max tickets you never use. If anything Splatoon 3 should be updated, maybe a bring your own custom loadout for Salmon Run. The current Salmon Run is extremely unrewarding.

I think it would def make sense if it came out in late 2026- mid 2027 and is announced in mid 2025 bc s3 support is going to end up getting cut off around its 2 year anniversary which gives them a good 3 ish years to work on it and the whole reason why s3 took so long was due to Covid, I hope in s4 they potentially have the game be set in the octarian world since we still haven’t learned that much about them, I have many ideas for s4 and might make a concept for it :)
