Complicated because she wanted freedom herself and for black people, she wanted the respect due all people. She wanted to be a classic pianist but turned away, and we know the reason. She led a stress filled life, and she wanted to be paid for her hard work but cheated, she wanted a home for mother and herself. She wanted to live in peace which is why she had to leave America also fearing for her life after the Kennedys and the Kings were murdered.

Me too (every record). Got to see her perform in Chicago in 1968. I worked for Mercury Records when she released Mississippi Godamn and still have the test pressings. My daughter sent me a picture of her having breakfast in bed in France in 1988. She looks so happy. Glad she chose to live there. I’m a bit partial, I was born there. Got to meet Quincy Jones when I worked at Mercury too. We spoke in French the whole time. He lived in Paris for 7 years. Always so glad to hear Nina’s songs in movies, commercials, etc. 😊🤗💝👏🏻

She was a hero in the black community. Saying otherwise is distorting her legacy which was probably done on purpose

Her childhood home is still standing in Tryon North Carolina but other than that and a figurine of her in downtown Tryon, that's about all there is. Her home was supposed to be made into a tourist attraction, but that never came about. The Nina Simone Plaza in Tryon isn't worth stopping to see. It's about the size of three car spaces and just has a figure of her at a keyboard and a plaque. That's about it.
