I saw her perform too -at Ronnie Scott's. I don't know if you would agree but I think this night the audience were possibly treated to seeing Nina at the pinnacle of her career both vocally and the entire performance of the material. And the musical backing is sublime. I don't know to what extent Nina controlled the arrngements but even allowing for the possibility of rehearsal there is something special going down. I return to these clips from Antibes regularly, there is nothing can compare.

In 1966, the singer-composer Nina Simone was so affected by the bombing of 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963, she wrote a song titled “Four Women.” It was a tribute to the four young women who were murdered in that act of terrorism. In the song, Simone created a portrait of four Black female stereotypes. There was Simone herself, Aunt Sarah, a God-fearing housecleaner, Sephronia young light-skinned activist and Sweet Thing a tough prostitute. The point of the song is that there can be no single portrait of any person

Hi. I'm just writing to remember to rewatch this on the 20th year of her departure. I discovered Nina like 2 years ago, but her live performance persona is something out of this world.

After several years ago of only hearing the recording of the phenomenal and unique talents of: Ledisi, Kelly Price, Jill Scott, and Marsha A, I didn't know this song first by this legend and that it was tribute to her.

United States is still a racist state, don't you see ? They use "RACE" for the identity data ! So all this country is racist.
