I just think what are we doing in this short life we live ? , let's love and help each other !! ....Im just a 2x divorced , semi alcoholic , middle class white man, who needs people / God / love........Nina's music and "fight" has helped me get out of the gutters .....Love Ya Miss Simone , your my Queen ....💓

Hey, I’m crying right now, too, and this is the first time I’ve heard the Nina Simone version! She was amazing. I didn’t know this existed. I am divorced too. You are not alone. Maybe you will notice that when the alcohol wears off, the pain is still there. I sure notice! For me, it has been best to face that pain, feel that pain, and ask God to hold my hand while I try to walk through it and make it to the light. Also, alcohol interacted with a med-not sure which one it was-it gave me insomnia. I quit. However, I never underestimate the value of a good cry. This song is so gorgeous, I had one of those good cries!

Great comment! Here's an English translation (using school French - c'etait compulsaire a mon ecole!): "This is a voice of gold, an incredible pianist, a queen, that everybody in the world should hear at least once in their lives. A pure moment of happiness." Nina Simone struggled in life, and her bipolar disorder was coming out in her concerts later on in Montreux etc. It was also sad that she had to live out her days in France and Switzerland after feeling rejected by her homeland, but I hope she was happy there in her own way. I think her early formal classical training was part of her greatness - something today's crappy pop musicians almost never have, which makes them forgettable in 10 years. La Reine entiere!

Do yourself a favor and look up HERE COMES THE SUN. Her vocals and piano solo take that song to another level. I've enjoyed that piece for 30 years now and never tire of it. Her performances in the SUMMER OF SOUL documentary was otherworldly!! Strange Fruit is ... the lyrics alone are enough to elicit tears-- Nina owns that song; you cannot deny the hurt, anger, pain ... the incomprehensible act of lynching another human being... So many have done justice in singing that piece; I would suggest you listen to any of her many recorded versions. If you want a good started album, you could start with THE BEST OF... from a reputable record co (one she recorded for would be the best bet). Then, move on to her live music. She was electric (most times) live. What a force. I hope her discography brings you as much joy (musically) and elicits as many deep, thoughtful, and important emotions-- (many with great joy!), as her discography brings to and elicits within me. I'm happy you have discovered the genius of Nina Simone.

The age of a song/artist doesn’t matter - it’s all about the talent of the person, and nothing else imo. I’ve enjoyed the other ones Nina’s done (those I’ve been able to find) at the same live concert too. *** In a way she reminds me of Etta James and Edith Piaf in that they are all classic and timeless, and while there are many ‘covers’ that others have done on their versions, they don’t come close.

From the heart, Nina has always sung from the heart. Even though this song has been done by others, their versions just sang some words. Make no mistake, you hear her sing just once and your heart bleeds with her. From the heart, Ms Simone, I love you from the heart.

One of the most underrated musicians of all time. She had a depth... a realism to her, that no other possessed.

Brave? How?
@jafar4marva Жыл бұрын
@@seriousmonkey5654 Well the song tells the story, and I am as sure as I can be that this performance was sung to a real somebody not to an imaginative person. Poignant and quite brave - if it makes us cry, what did it take to bare her soul, if not courage?
@seriousmonkey5654 Жыл бұрын
@@jafar4marva As a real musician, that's what you do. Nothing about being brave. That's what you do. But I guess with you people it's a black female thing or something else just as ridiculous.
