I was a psychiatric nurse in the 70's & 80's. Bi polar was referred to as manic depression then. When patients were manic a lot were very creative & very insightful of their issues & of others. Their high period would escalate for days, weeks & when they came down & learnt of their behaviour some became very sexual their behaviour sent them into deep depression. They could be very amusing when manic but their depression was sad to witness. Unfortunately loved ones & friends wear the brunt of their behaviour & a lot have no more contact with them due to their erratic behaviour.

I was a huge old movie buff when I was younger. I can tell you that back then as now many actors and actresses don't look like the character they are playing in a biography. It is rare to find someone who does look the part. They will try to make up the actors to look as close or have something like the person but, what is looked for is the person's ability to play a part. If the producers and directors and casting people have a choice between a person who can act beautifully and bring some essence of a person into a role but, they look nothing like them or casting someone who looks close to a person but, does not have the ability or talent they are always going to go with the actor with ability.

@@Lilmisscostumedrama ok let's be real here, we need to stop creating excuses for people just because they dealt with trauma. Naomi actually has a record of physically assaulting people, that kind of behavior should not be condoned.

I swear I'm trying to work on not holding grudges...but I will NEVER take my foot off of Columbiana's neck for taking that role! Anyway lol RIP to the talented and sensitive soul that was Nina.

Yeah that one is hard to forgive.. I lost a lot of respect also for Zoe.. she just… she just had to know better 😕

She hates claiming her black roots. So why tf would she take that role!

Extremely talented, no doubt. Even a genius. Sensitive, I beg to differ. I think if you would ask her daughter, she would say the complete opposite. You don't ever recover from that kind of abuse.

@@wendigo1919 I agree. It seems that most people put her talent over the abuse she put her daughter through.

I *love* me some Ms. Simone! What a talented, brilliant, woman and entertainer. An activist for color and sex, she was just the entire package. So much talent, one human being. My gramps always said there is a fine line between genius and mental issues. This really did her justice. Really enjoyed it, thank you!!

Danai Gurira, “Michonne “ on The Walking Dead would’ve been perfect to portray Nina Simone; Viola Davis is a good match also.😁

In my opinion, I see India Arie playing as Nina Simone. She's an amazing singer.

I first discovered Nina Simone through a movie which is how I found lots beautiful background songs. I bought a music cd of hers, loved her songs, touched the heart, depicted suffering and challenges, racism. My heart went out to her!
