I'd like to ask all cisgender heterosexual people "How many stories would I need to read you to make you suddenly be attracted to the same sex?" Probably infinity right? Because you can't TURN anyone gay or vice-versa. The gays already know you can't force children to be any specific sexual orientation, since we all grew up in a fully heteronormative society, and despite all the sociocultural condtionioning that taught us to be straight, we were queer. A lot of us earnestly wanted and tried to change, as though sexual orientation could be learned/unlearned. But none have succeeded. That doesn't mean that a person's sexual orientation CAN'T change over time. But that's a deeply personal process of introspection and discovery, not based on the whims of a 3rd party who told them they like vaginas now or whatever. You can't "groom" children to be gay, or transgender, or STRAIGHT. This "groomers" plotline is exploiting the fact that most cis-het people don't innately understand that your sexual orientation is what it is, regardless of external influences. That combined with the universal instinct to protect children from any potential exploitation; that's being used to create a politicized flashpoint. By design, the "right side" is everyone who values protecting children. Given this extra context, ironically it's actually the adults who are being exploited. Drag queens can't groom children into the LGBT or transgender lifestyle any more than the heteronormative society at-large can't make every child end up being straight. These anti-drag and anti-trans laws aren't about protecting children, they're just meant to hurt LGBT adults... AND children.

This is one of the most poignant responses I have heard with regard to queer acceptance. I agree wholeheartedly with everything you have said. Furthermore, it isn't up to us to judge how other people live their lives... .whether or not we believe it is a choice. If people want to believe that the bible teaches that homosexuality is wrong, they can't cherry pick which lessons they take from the bible.... and the christian bible teaches us unconditional love and acceptance. They will be judged when their time comes for judgement, if that is what someone believes. But I do believe, like every other human experience, we all have a responsibility to our fellow kind. And I do firmly believe a big step towards helping other people to accept the queer experience, is to get rid of this "oh we can change that".... attitude when someone says "I'm flattered, but I'm sorry I am not gay". It undermines the reality of the situation. That nobody can change who you are or who you were born to love. I understand it's most often said with humour but it's often an extremely serious subject that comes with some very serious consequences. Gospel doesn't teach men not to wear dresses.... but these same people that have problems with the LGTB+ would have issue with a man wearing a dress, even if he wasn't attracted to other men. They just don't like what they don't understand. People say, they don't have a problem with gay people, they just don't understand why they have to march up and down the street and shout it to the world. BECAUSE THEY CAN. For so long they were told they can't, and yes, they fought hard for the right to do that and they deserve that space. The same way the black community deserves to have BET awards, or women deserve to have communities dedicated as a safe and open space for them alone. As a cis-hetero person. I stand with the queer community. It's not up to us to understand it. It's not our journey. The same as it's not up to them to understand our path. It's up to us to do the right thing and nurture people during their own journey, and that compassion also doesn't need to end at childhood. It's our responsibility to love and accept people unconditionally.

Be strong Nina, be safe, be happy. Live your truth, it's the best revenge. It's terrifying how they are manufacturing an enemy to divert attention from their own corruption and hypocrisy.

Bravo Nina! I’m really alarmed with what is happening in the US right now and unfortunately it’s starting to trickle up to us in Canada too. As a senior, I have witnessed the struggles we had to gain equality in the 80’s & 90’s and I wish the younger generation all the strength they need to continue the crusade for love ❤

Nina West is one of the most universally beloved drag entertainers in the world and when she appeared at the _Little Mermaid_ premiere, I was appalled by how somebody was speaking of her. It was obvious that they had no idea who she was or what she stood for, so I took it upon myself to school them a bit. That said - and I know I'll get some flak for this - I think for the time being it's best we put a hold on the Story Hours. There have been far too many incidents where the children were terrified by protesters pouring into the room and shouting. It is no longer safe for the children....and that is NOT on us. We have an opportunity to prove we're not out to hurt kids and there's really no better way to prove that than taking them out of the equation. Virtual story hours could be a great way to move forward, and it would give people the opportunity to see what's _actually_ being said and done, but there's clearly some work to do and some conversations to be had among the adults first. Nina, if you should somehow see this, don't you feel disheartened. If there's anybody that should be the face of this issue, it's you. You're so deeply loved because you're such a pure soul and you wear your heart on your sleeve. If every one of us were to see the world in the same way, and understand the responsibility we have to the bigger picture, those that oppose us would have so much less ammunition. You're a Fairy Godmother in the truest sense. Take that and lead.

Hi Candy, I'd like to say we can't be complacent in situations like this. There has been many instances in the world where people have said "this will pass" and it just got horrendously worse. So many killed, exterminated, lynched etc. Please stay vigilant.

I’m turning 68 on the 16th-imma old fart now but I got a lot to say but became speechless after hearing the doxxing 😳😳😳did you have to move? What does one do when that happens. Makes me so angry how evil hating and dark beings operate. I’m an ally but old. I’m trying to speak here on platforms but nobody is listening. I feel stifled and helpless, so I can only imagine the hell you guys are put through. My FIRST rape I was 31/2, close to my bday it’s why I remember my age-PASTORS ASSISTANT. Doctors, physchiatrists all tried to get me EVERYDAY it was someone-all considered ‘fine upstanding men’! I was 6 or 7 for Christs sake when rather than figure out something might have happened to me she brought me to a physchiatrist who came around his desk with his dick in his hand!!! I’ve NEVER known ANY gays or trans to be pedophile MONSTER GARBAGE BEINGS they’re in office errywhere. What else can I do? What do I say, I’m at a loss and I’m a broke bitch so can’t contribute that way. I love and follow as much as possible all of you. You Nina have my heart coz I was in theatre myself or TRYING to be but I was too extra but mostly too short-I’m little lol. Stay as safe as possible loves🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️

So drag is fine. It can be very entertaining for adults. If you wanna do drag for kids, for some strange reason, can’t you take the sexual aspect of it out? For kids? I’ve been to many drag shows in the last 25 years and they do have a sexual aspect. Which is totally fine for adults. Why do the kids NEED to see that? Back in the late 80’s deag shows weren’t as sexually explicit. I just don’t understand the fight to have kids see a sexually charged show. I don’t agree with drag performers being attacked or anything like that but i do not agree with children being exposed to sexually explicit shows.

Sorry girl, but there is no sexual content by drag queens reading books to children. I break it down to you, we drag queens and queer and gay individuals have more topics then sexual. We wouldn’t read children stories in a nightlife bar to adults either, like, come on. Tell me one drag queen who did that infront of you AND children and we can talk again, but it’s not happening. We don’t even dress offensively in that context. Also, kids don’t get a trauma by the word penis or stuff.

who's performing sexually-themed acts in front of children? cite your sources. if you don't have proof, you're just playing into the propaganda.

There are no sexual aspects of story hour at the local library usually held in the morning! If kids are at adult themed shows, that’s on the parents!

Drag performers doing kids story hour dress up like a prince/princess, a fairy godmother, or some other character you could find in many of the books that they read. Many of the organizers for these story hours, as well as family-friendly drag shows, INSIST on knowing ahead of time what the performers are going to where, so you won't see anyone in a thong bikini. The LGBTQ+ community isn't doing the G word to kids; they are letting kids just be kids and teaching them to be kind to everyone that is different than they are. If you want to talk the G word, look at many Christian faiths that teach kids that sex is between a cis-gender man and cis-gender women ONLY, no ifs, ands, or buts.

TO BE FAIR, I do recall recently seeing a brief clip of a drag performer who was on some kind of swing -like contraption that was rotating. While they were trying to stop the spinning or maybe just not fall off, a part of the front of their outfit had a wardrobe malfunction. This momentarily caused part of the silicone breastplate (essentially a rubber bib of fake breasts worn under clothes) to expose a nipple for a few seconds until the performer steadied themselves and noticed what happened. 1. It was an accident 2. It wasn't even a real breast 3. Naked breasts (real or not) aren't inherently sexual (to kids) because breastfeeding isn't sexualizing children So the only example that even comes close to a "sexualized" performance... was an accident where the audience saw a brief glimpse of a fake rubber boob. That's not grooming or even sexual. Unless we're outlawing breastfeeding now too.
