What a magnificent variation! She dances Odette 's soul beatifully with meling ultra solid balance and center into mercurial liquidity. This performance is a rare gem of great Mariinsky tradition!!!

Ah, this brings back memories of when I performed ballet. Though I miss those days, I’m glad they were a part of my life. Something on which I look back with pride and nostalgia.

Molto brava.Bighin Giulio Renzo

She is magnificent here. One of the most beautiful Odettes I've seen in my life.
Really lovely, with new and interesting expression!

I've read one junk review of this performance saying that Alina's Odette 'has no soul' or something like that. For me she could give a bit of her soul for all 32 swans who accompany her and she would still had enough to give amazing performance. Thank you, Nina, for another treasure!

looovecats I agree!! So many ballet critics have never done ballet in their life! I saw someone criticizing Lopatkina even though she is AMAZING at this variation.

@russianballetvideo yes I also noticed that great moment. Somova is a true ballerina in every sense of the word. She fully embodies the artistic. She is only going to grow as an artist.

You are focusing too much on the technical aspect so it is understandable that you prefer the dancers you just mentioned, Though for me they are inferior to Alina in the artistic aspect. Ballet is not just technique, otherwise it wouldn ´t be art.

First of all, I really enjoyed watching this, thank you so much. I hate to disagree with everyone, but I have trouble watching Somova dance. She does everything correctly, she has formidable technique, she is astonishingly flexible. Yet I watch her and am unconvinced. I feel like I'm watching a very precocious student, who has been carefully instructed on each of the steps and expressions, but lacks understanding...

@looovecats I've been readin' all reviews and I don't remember anything like that, maybe you are talking about smth happened years ago. I know that even SPb bloggers who were harsh on her and this part of hers earlier, after seing this particular performance said she was very very good, and all noticed a great deal of improvement, some others said "kudos to Terekhova", I'd say - they both produced a miracle, bravi.

is the standing leg in a develope ala secound suppose to be tuned in ? and is it the new thing? Also Is turn out a thing of the past ?
@DarkbloomVivian13 жыл бұрын
Everytime she strikes a pose I wish she would hold it just a moment longer -- everyone who's posted says she captures the emotion so well, but I just don't feel like she is "feeling" the choreography. It looks to me like she is going through the motions, and in almost everything I've seen of her she has (I don't want to say vapidness) a vacancy. That's just my impression. That said, I love watching her! She's remarkable, really.
@Balletbelle32013 жыл бұрын
I am just now starting to see some of the maturity charisma it takes to carry a ballet. When I first saw her, she was just a flurry of awkwardness. Now, there are still awkward moments, but she is a little more polished and controlled. I blame the powers at Kirov, as its a lot harder to change a first impression than it is to make one. I think she should stay away from these "tutu" roles where her style is too much of a hindrance and makes it difficult to make a connection.

Watch Svetlana in this very scene iwith Roberto Bolle and then you’ll see the difference between very good and genius .Svetlana is so ethereally perfect no one comes close!.Of courses it helps to be stunningly. beautiful and tall Svetlana has it all particularly in this role.

Pause 0:18 - standing leg turned in , pause 0: 22- standing leg turned .Hello its right there in front of you . I believe you say "it is impossible to achieve the high extensions that Somova achieves without turnout" Chime in on Rhythmic Gymnast You tube clips I dont get the hoopla over Alina .. I have full respect for Marinsky as they have produced dancers like Viktoria Tereshkina and Ekaterina Osmolkina ,who I hold in the highest regard

"petty" criticisms knowing that one of the very fundamental basics of CLASSICAL BALLET is an emphases on"TURN OUT". This is Ballet basics 101, so I dont need to post videos, its well documented , And no matter how high one's leg goes( even if its to her ear) it should not compromise this aesthetic .As far as the her raising the technical bar that's a matter of opinion/ taste. I prefer the Artists Jurgita Dorina or Yuan Yuan Tan .

Everything was just perfect except her exit. I wish she could have reach more on Danila like she doesn't want to go. Trying to counter the force that's pushing her towards the lake.
@havenization11 жыл бұрын
I prefer t dancers you mention more because of their ability to understand Kinesiology" Either you have it or not . Ballet is not just one stagnant pose to the next . Most Principal dancers of the day including russian dancers understand this art/science instinctively . Alina is static in my eyes , dancing with no sense of abandonment, always insecure, and relying on a develope or an arabesque to appease her audience- to me she is the Justin Bieber of ballet -Bubble Gum !

Swan lake is probably Somova’s worst role. Over extensions yet just bad in everything else such as arms, steps, fluidity, and lines (she even traveled off course in the pique sequence at the end). her legs also look so crooked here for some reason. Not to mention lacking the swan like softness and artistry. She can be really great in other roles, I was very impressed with her Giselle and Nikiya. This just isn’t anywhere near as good as those.
