My reaction the first time I've ever heard this song was "nobody can mix so many music styles and vocal techniques (voice colors too) into one song and still sounds epic beside the obvious stage presence" I had to go over it for three days to fully understand what he did and I had to shared it with music students at my conservatory. They were also shocked out of their brain at this performance. PS you are gorgeous Nina!

Dimash is one of those especially talented and motivated people who think "I've mastered opera, what's next?". So it's on to pop, then RnB, then traditional Kazakh folk then rock etc. Because he can do all these different tones and styles, he tries to figure out how much he can put into a single song because it would be too easy if the whole song was in a single style, right? Then he scouts around for great songs and when he finds ones he likes he doesn't do translations, he has to do them in the original language (12 so far). And what if the song as written in "only" 2 octaves, shouldn't he add in an extra octave or two? What he wants to do would be considered either insane or impossible (or both) but he is Dimash and somehow it makes sense. More than make sense, it is almost always spectacular. But I don't think we'll get too many that imitate him because the training and dedication and talent required to do what he does is so high.

Yes and on top of all of that, he is a perfectionist and pushes himself. He WORKS for everything that he has and he only wants more. I just hope he doesn't push himself too hard or he will find himself joining a very special club called BURNOUT. He can sit where Floor Jansen was sitting while he heals, and hope to whatever deity he believes in that his voice will come back as strong when the nightmare is over. I HOPE this NEVER happens to him, but it COULD if he keeps pushing himself too much for too long before taking breaks or vacation.

@@jamescurfman3284 Dimash has developed his voice to such extreme limits that he may be more vulnerable than he realizes to overusing it. He is checked regularly by a specialist but I have heard rumors he does not always follow advice. I would hate to see him have trouble.

When fantastic voice meets a beautiful song. It's an old song very famous in France, very powerful and melancholic. Beautiful, but very sad. This song talk about suicide. Lyrics are like a last letter. The last "S.O.S" just before suicide. And not only lyrics. Everybody notes this vocal range, this transition from the lowest notes to really high notes. The melody is built as a metaphor for a rise, a climb, from the ground to the sky. From sad life to death as liberation. It starts with deepest note (and lyrics mentions words like earth, ground) to finish with very high note (and lyrics mentions words like sky, bird). This song is technically hard. But the lyrics are very emotionally charged for french speakers. This guy has a gift, and he makes an exceptional interpretation. ........................ Pourquoi je vis, pourquoi je meurs ?... Pourquoi je ris, pourquoi je pleurs ? (Why do I live, why do I die ?... Why do I laugh, why do I cry ?) Voici le S.O.S d'un terrien en détresse (Here is the S.O.S of an earthman in distress) J'ai jamais eu les pieds sur terre... J'aimerais mieux être un oiseau... Je suis mal dans ma peau (I never had my feet on the ground... I'd rather be a bird... I don't feel good in my own skin) Je voudrais voir le monde à l'envers... Si jamais c'était plus beau... Plus beau vu d'en haut, d'en haut ! (I'd like to see the world upside down... If it were ever more beautiful... More beautiful from above, from above !) J'ai toujours confondu la vie avec les bandes dessinées (I've always mistaken life with comics) J'ai comme des envies de métamorphose, je sens quelque chose (I have some metamorphosis desires, I feel something) Qui m'attire, qui m'attire, qui m'attire... vers le haut ! (That pulls me, that pulls me, that pulls me... upwards !) Au grand loto de l'univers... J'ai pas tiré le bon numéro... Je suis mal dans ma peau (In this great lottery of the universe... I didn't pull the right number... I don't feel good in my own skin) J'ai pas envie d'être un robot... Métro boulot dodo, whou-ohhh ! (I don't want to be a robot... Work work work, whou-ohhh !) Pourquoi je vis, pourquoi je meurs ?... Pourquoi je ris, pourquoi je pleurs ? (Why do I live, why do I die ?... Why do I laugh, why do I cry ?) Je crois capter des ondes, venues d'un autre monde (I think I'm catching waves, from another world) J'ai jamais eu les pieds sur terre... J'aimerais mieux être un oiseau... Je suis mal dans ma peau (I never had my feet on the ground... I'd rather be a bird... I don't feel good in my own skin) Je voudrais voir le monde à l'envers... J'aimerais mieux être un oiseau... Dodo l'enfant, do ! (I'd like to see the world upside down... I'd rather be a bird... Sleep my child, sleep !)

The voice you heard comes from one naturally gifted but is only possible through years of dedicated training under the supervision of outstanding teachers. His mother is an opera singer, his father a pop star/music producer and he started extensive formal musical training at age 5 on instruments and vocals. He has said that his vocal chords are longer than usual and when the "voice change" happened he didn't lose his high notes but just extended his lower range. As a teen he trained operatically at an arts school but with his range that meant performing as a tenor and a soprano. His tone is so exceptional he was actually part of the female section of the choir when they needed help. He then studied rock, pop and RnB vocal styles in college where he obtained a degree in The Art of Stage Performance/Variety Vocal. He plays seven instruments well including piano, the dombra (Kazakh two string lute) and the drums. His goal is to tastefully combine these vocal techniques, along with those of his native Kazakh heritage, to create his own musical fusion. Dimash said: It's been 20 years since I studied music professionally and dreamed of the big stage. A.Zhubanov Music School, city schoolchildren's palace, children's school "caz", musical college named after A.Zhubanov (classic vocal), Kazakh National University of Arts (specialty - pop, jazz singer, now master of composer) I am very happy to be in service in this field because you know how many people are grateful to you, you feel the love. From my side, know that I am giving you my love and gratitude for each occasion.

When they attempt to explain what he does (and do a good job) but just be completely unable to encompass his pure talent. When he goes off the keyboard literally and blows everyones minds is just the best thing to watch. Dear Nina, welcome to a man that started training at age 5 & he is now 25, 6 Foot 3, composes, plays 7 instruments, sings in 6 octaves and 12 languages. His vocal range is C2 to D8. He does sing in all genres and builds each song and adds his own touch to songs as well as convey emotion with his voice and his body. He is also very humble and since you mentioned the earpiece, as you watch more from him you will see that when he takes it out you can expect something big. For non English songs from Singer 2017 & some back stories use the channel Gloria Wu for subtitles with the performance. He sang 5 in English and 8 others during Singer 2017 & a guest appearance on Singer 2018 with Lionel Richie's Hello. Many songs & concerts since. He also does tributes to his idol Michael Jackson & yesterday he had a concert in New York.

Awesome reaction! You nailed it... Dimash's style has been classified as "popera", a cross of pop and opera. And yes, he can sing ANY genre of music. This performance of SOS, a French song, sang by a Kazakh, in front of a Chinese audience, introduced Dimash to the world. I encourage you to follow the performances of Singer 2017, and watch his progression up to now. It's an amazing journey, and I can guarantee, you will enjoy the ride. well...you just touched a piece of a mountain :)) DIMASH is quite honestly in a class of his own. He incorporates influences from so many genres/styles and cultures that he is impossible to categorise. He transcends traditional musical norms. His level of professionalism and dedication to his art is incredible. It's easy to forget that he's still only 25, the same age as Justin Bieber, yet displays a sophistication and level of polished performance that is rare in one so young. He has superb confidence, charisma and charm, he's humble and never appears arrogant or insincere. He really is a unique unrivalled talent. If anyone had suggested 20 years ago that a kid from Khazakstan would be an international mega star conquering the world without selling a single CD in America or the UK, the leading pop music markets, it would've been impossible to imagine. The world has changed dramatically over 2 short decades. Music has changed, the rise of KPOP and breaking into US/UK/Europe & all Asian markets is a 21st century phenomenon. That these artists are taken seriously in the US & UK is a significant shift in attitudes. I really believe that Dimash is something new, a truly multi talented, truly international artist like no one before him. He has the potential to become one of the biggest stars of the 21st century.

Great reaction Nina - Dimash is a musical phenomenon - there is no one like Dimash. And as you say he doesn't just sing a song - he becomes the song ! Never in all my 63 years have I heard or seen a performer like Dimash. Simply stunning ! Thank you from New Zealand .

Hey Nina. I have watched this reaction possibly 20 times already. I just love your character that shines through your reactions. I wanna comment on something that you commented on which no other reactor has reacted to and that is the amazing string line in the middle if the performance. You commented at 4:16. I am a pianist, but that repeated fast string riff is so exhilarating to me 😍😍😍😍😍

What amaze me the most about Dimash beside his flawless transitions, voice colors and wide vocal range is the fusion of music styles he constantly explores. He goes from operatic baritone and "soprano" like Ogni Pietra or Ulisse to rock/pop (even rap) style like Screaming Idol Hits or Show Must Go On (through some serious sad ballads like Late Autumn - perfection-) He has the stage presence of a veteran singer and yet his atittude is fresh as a kid. Whatever! You are absolutely gorgeous Nina!

Join the 8.3 MILLION views speaks volumes with a world wide fan base. He just did his first solo concert in New York last night whit people from 129 countries flying in from all over the world. Miraculous Voice of Kazakhstan", "Space Boy", Dimash Kudaibergen The 6 Octave man. His voice fits three and more: baritone, tenor and altino, the male version of the soprano. His vocal range is six octaves - from the contractava to the fifth octave. He plays seven instruments and sings in twelve languages. In his homeland, Kazakhstan, Dimash, has received so many prizes imaginable ... In China, he was recognized as "The most popular singer in Asia" .. According to the Top Chinese Music Awards, "Dimash was recognized as the best foreign singer." According to MTV, "Singer of the Year" as well as for the "OK" magazine, and for 10 more magazines. he has 114 fan clubs in 46 countries, and the number of his fans has exceeded 10 million. He's only 25 years old. Dimash's popularity seems an anachronism. Just like the Beatles, in the sixties, (their fans were ready to lie under a tank), Now in 2019, a young Kazakh with the appearance of a manga hero and the wisdom of an Eastern philosopher provokes adoration almost hysterical. Thanks for your very spirited reactions like everyone else, we are swept away by the magic of Dimash's amazing vocals. Continue to enjoy your journey with this new rising star by reacting to some incredible performances. Have a great day, ☆♪♫•*¨*•.¸¸♪♫ DKIFC - The United Kingdom

SOS is from a French rock opera written specifically for a guy who had a 4.5 octave range but he passed away. Others have sang the song but it was never like the first guy. When Dimash sang the song on The Singer and it went viral he was asked by som Parisian big wigs to come to Paris and sing it for them which he did and he did it beautifully. I have seen it online here somewhere. Dimash has over a 6 octave range with incredible control over his instrument. He can sing baritone to soprano. He is amazing and if you do not watch him sing you would think there were multiple people on the stage. It is why we have fallen in love with him. He speaks fluently in Kasak, his native tongue and Russian and is learning Mandarin and English. He sings in over a dozen languages and plays 7-8 instruments not counting his voice. He also has perfect pitch. He has been taking singing lessens since he was 4-5 and still practices about 3 hours a day not to mention he is in school and has one degree already and is working on another. Oh, and he writes music and can dance too. He also swims to work on breathing techniques. He has been practicing over 20 years. His mother is an opera singer and his father a composer and pop singer who is also Dimash's manager. His brother plays instruments and his sister sings, both have been performed with him. So far there has been no bad press on him. Not as a kid with friends even. He seems to be a kind and humble man. Let's hope it is true. Oh, he was also offered a job with a top opera house but he declined ever so nicely their offer because he said he wanted to bring his kind of music to the world. His music is mixing everything together. Neo- classical if you will. If you listen to The Singer 2017, the Chinese professional singing competion you will hear more of how he sounded starting out and how far he has come. I am amazed when I see his concerts and hear people singing songs in various languages that learned the words phonetically so they could sing along with Dimash. How many fans learn songs in multiple languages phonetically so they could sing with their idol? He raps too! He is an amazing voice and appears to be an equally humble person. I wish him all the best.

Thank you for your reaction! Welcome to the magic world of Dimash!! I hope you can "restrain" yourself from watching other performances of him on your own, and save them for more reaction videos!! :) I would recommend "Ogni Pietra" from Arnau concert and "Sinful Passion" from Sochi. The first is an anthemic operatic song, you will just not believe your ears. The second one is a love ballad, especially rearranged by the composers (the band A-studio) for Dimash. You will be blown away...!! You still haven't seen his whole potential!! ;)

I am musician and I got speechless the first time too. I love the way you analyze and breakdown every part of the song... super clear. Since you are classical trained I strongly suggest Ogni Pietra kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpyUcnuDrdZgZsk or Sinful Passion at Sochi. If you want to teach absolute control on high (almost whistle) notes then Opera 2 and Diva Dance at Singer are your best choices. Bottom note I`ve ever heard from him was D2 at Love of Tired Swan and the top one was F6 (beside the famous D8 at Unforgetable Day) If you are into ballads then Late Autumn at Singer is your best choice. Or if you want super strong mix`s then Adagio also at Singer2017. I really hope you dig deep into this singer which I consider the (best) most complete singer alive. Peace!
