Can only echo other comments. I've been to many many gigs but this was the best. No idea what the guys were on that night but this set was like a freight train smashing straight through reading and making every other band look average. The funny thing was they weren't even the headliners. Absolutely no fucks given no prisoners taken by Trent and co that night

This is the best live performance I've ever seen in over 200 plus gigs and 22 plus festival weekenders. Trent and this lineup of NIN were just amazing, it was like someone turned on the volume as the main stage at Reading sounded quiet all weekend, changed my life.

This was the best show I've seen - bar nothing. I didn't really appreciate NIN before this show, but man, the brutality and pure emotion that went into this was mind-blowing. It's impossible to convey how amazing this was through a video. Imagine someone telling you that a band they aren't a huge fan of put on the best show they've ever seen. I know many others who would echo this statement.

Know what you mean! I saw NIN a good handful of times before and after this performance (same year) yet THIS is the one set I keep on coming back to watch. It really was incredible and caught me off guard they were just soo up for it. I saw the same touring festival production at other festivals that year also but just everything was right at Reading that night! They rocked up and tore a new one into that stage. The Smashing Pumpkins who were headlining must have thought omg how do we follow that! Sound, energy, performance spot on and the best time ive seen them. Usually bands are pretty awful at Reading but this was something else.
@mattremnant5 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. Reading 2007, my first festival, went off from my friends to catch NIN and they blew me away, 12 years later and this still gives me goosebumps. This, Head Like a Hole, Wish, Great Destroyer, they fucking killed it.
@allthepies884 жыл бұрын
Nin were my favourite as I was growing up. This set was just ridiculous when I saw it at reading. I couldn't even watch the smashing pumpkins afterwards. You couldn't follow that up. I saw them again at Roskilde in Denmark last year I think. That set was also outrageous, and many friends said the same, just completely blew them away.

Aaron's almost David Gilmour-esque spacey lead during "Wish" of all songs at 6:18, is fucking gorgeous. THAT'S how you add something to a band you were not in when the song was written. That's how it's done, folks

Spot on. Seriously good solo
@Pablo-ze6un2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely amazing solo, now every time that I listen to a non-North rendition of the song it just feels incomplete without it. It's beyond me how some people think he "ruined" the song by adding that spin to the solo.
@mywhychromosome2 жыл бұрын
@@Pablo-ze6un Yeah, I went to a bunch of gigs during that era, and especially during the earlier ones around '05, he was definitely a 'controversial' guitarist for the band, I remember overhearing a lot of complaining. I'll admit that even I, at the very first show I saw, wasn't sure what to make of the crazy vibes he brought on stage and some of the interpretations of the songs, it was all so different...now I think it was probably the best line-up of the band

There was something about the 2005-2007 line up for NIN's 'return'. I reckon Aaron North and Jeordie White brought that raw aggression maybe Trent wanted at the time and that suited those albums. NIN still are an amazing live force to this day, but their line up and approach to their live music evolves for that current moment. One of the all time best.

He was a fucking genius. This was the NIN live era I started with, and so I didn't FULLY appreciate it at the time...still thought it was badass, but my adolescent self spent a lot more time wondering if I had missed out on the "Self Destruct" era, etc...now that there's some space, and I've seen countless other NIN lineups...the '05 was the perfect fusion of soundscape professionals like Cortini, with agents of Chaos like North, they never touched it again. Not to mention the seemingly unimportant, but quite effective when you're actually looking at the stage, coincidental effect that this was the only lineup where they all looked like they were part of the same BAND...it just happened to end up being an entire collection of tall, pale as fuck, weird dudes with dyed black hair. Fucking great.
@draisine16095 жыл бұрын
mywhychromosome absolutely agree. I rue the day that I missed seeing them. It’s a shame that Aaron was not able to handle this success (he is now doing standup in LA).
@mywhychromosome5 жыл бұрын
@@thewealthcircle29 There are a handful of moments during the "Fragility" era, which is also (not coincidentally) the most 'open'/'collaborative' period for an increasingly intoxicated Reznor, where Finck nudges things in an interesting direction...alot of the unplugged/"Still" stuff, for example, or his performance of "La Mer" from the live DVD...One of the 'background' influences that Trent always flirted with but never openly embraced was Shoegaze, and Finck came the closest to bringing that atmosphere up front at times. That said, best NIN lineups were about balance, and by the later eras, they NEEDED chaos in their guitarist...they are still missing it, even now.
