Marilyn Manson and NIN were my two favorite bands in high school. Excellent nostalgia vibes across your channel. And, being a music producer, I (and maybe we) really really would like to see how to configure your VSTs for these patches 😁

I'm not as much of an expert as this guy but here are a few I know off the top of my head. -MotP bass is a SCI Pro One through a distortion pedal -Pianos are almost all from the Kurzweil K2000 with various effects in front of it. Same for the tone wheel organ on Piggy. -Closer bassline is from an old Akai sample cd called Poke In The Ear Volume 2 -Synth during the Closer Bridge is a modified version of the volkanic patch off of the SCI Prophet VS -The Becoming bass is an extremely rare prototype synth called the OberMoog that never went into production (there were only 3-5 prototypes made) but can generally be recreated with modern plugins

The Downward Spiral is one of those albums that I thought I loved when I first heard it. As the years went on, I found out that I just really liked it at first. The more I dug into the layers of the sounds, the more I was absolutely stunned (in a good way). It wasn't until a couple years after it's release that I really wrapped my head around everything happening on it and thought "ok.....NOW I love this album"

Yes last 3 notes are Bb, C, Gb. Big ol' tritone between the last two notes, really funky. I slowed it down 70% and studied it because it's just so watery and there are some sub notes that not everyone considers notes. I think he did a great job!

I still listen to this album and PHM for the synth sounds. I'd be interested to know how these were re-created, since weren't a lot of the sounds on Downward Spiral actually samples? I seem to remember reading the bass sound from Closer was a bass guitar sample put through some kind of filter/wah effect. Are these sample based instruments or synth patches or what? I did discover after much digging that a lot of my favorite sounds on PHM were from the Prophet VS, so I've always wanted a vector synth.
@zachariahpoltergeist4516 Жыл бұрын
I read in an interview that the Closer bass was a modular patch he just randomly happed on, recorded it, and then it was lost to history. I did see a tutorial once saying it is heavy oscillator sync with lots of keyboard tracking on the cutoff. It is truly one of the greatest synth lines ever created! He also once said he always uses a Minimoog for bass, so take that as you will.
