Like the saying goes "You don't know what you've got till it's gone" my first posting out of training was to Marham. I spent the first three years of my service up close and personal to the aircraft on all the squadrons stationed at Marham. Didn't really realise how lucky I was, just part of the job, still prety awesome and got to see lots of different visiting aircraft up close too. Now I have just got into modelling as a way of helping my cptsd symptoms, i'd love to have that up close reference available now.. Still got good memories of watching the Tonks take off in awesome sunrises finishing a night shift amongst other great sights.

That GR1 camo looks awesome. Farewell Tonka, you'll certainly be missed!
@garryharriman73495 жыл бұрын
I used to spray that camo when the jet was in it's GR1 role. Wet on wet camoflauge for it's low level high speed intradiction Cold War days.

A great aircraft. Sad to see them retire. They may be gone but not forgotten. They are in good company ( F-111, F-4 )

Truely awesome footage, I miss my time at RAF Marham. Sad day to see these amazing aircraft retire. Thanks for this video, brilliant.

Just a suggestion, but seeing as most Red Arrows pilots have flown the Tornado, why not give them 9 aircraft and perhaps a couple of spares and let them do a display? It would make amazing viewing.

Wonderful birds. Sad to see them go but the F-35 is a worthy replacement. Wish they'd keep a couple of Tonkas around for historic flypasts; a "Cold War Memorial Flight" if you will.

These birds are not ready for retirement just yet. It's purely a money thing... which is understandable of course.... Beautiful Aircraft, beautiful!! They better keep some for future generations to marvel at!

I expect all funding for the GR4 will end 31/3/19. As for keeping a couple as a flying memorial - at £30 / hour capitation rate I don’t think so. The defence budget is stretched as it is.

How fast must be a warbird for takeoff???? (And for landing o so?) Thanks for answers

Probs about 160kts for TO (@ rotation) and 125kts for ldg. Not a pilot so could be a bit off but not by much.
@wojtek55965 жыл бұрын
@@dumbbeerholder Yup. Without loads for Tonka around 160 kts for TO and around 140 kts for LDG.

Russia is becoming a menace again anf the Tornado is still very capable.
@gordonferrar77825 жыл бұрын
Phony war....Russia is surrounded and outgunned it punches it's weight but have you seen the Mig Class stats in air to air. Bloody awful F=16 have outclassed the mig 21 23 and 29 and whilst they can knock them out at great speed i can't imagine the Russians have made greater advances than the West with the new Suhkoi. Putin is a poser any conventional war would be disastrous for Russia....and everybody else should things escalate. Vietnam was the last time any Russian bird had a positive kill rate.
