I like it. I have a small greenhouse that will have to keep my plants warm in the winter. The tradeoff is that running the heater tends to create a lot of water vapor/condensation, and potential blight on my tomato plants as a result (I have to close all the windows to keep the greenhouse warm in freezing temperatures). This will work nicely, as I can keep the humidity down, and then just use the water in the tank to water the plants again.

Possible solution for the humidity setting: 1) Measure baseline humidity. 2) Run dehumidifier until desired humidity is reached. 3) Turn it off and see how long it takes for humidity to go back up. 4) Put it on an outlet timer and set the on/off times. You can get a cheap one from Walmart with a 24-hour dial, and set the on/off increments for a 24-hour cycle. You can usually find them in the electronics section for about 2 to 3 bucks. If your humidity conditions in the room are fairly boring/routine, then that's all you need to do.

I do something similar for my whole house unit in the basement. I have it set to run during the lowest power rate time... nights and weekends.

but how does it work? it's not a compressor style or a dessicant style, is it a peltier cell (thermoelectric cooler)?
