The guitar player, Wajima san has his personal YT channel. He's a pretty cool dude. He covers solo camping and a lot about motorcycles. The entire band are cool. They also do live sit down talks taking questions from fans. They have a great backstory of keeping the faith, never giving up and going thru the grind. They paid their dues and it's good to see them finally getting their due.

Shinji Wajima is only 54, Dec 25 1965 so he shares a birthday with Santa Claus, I am 60 and grew up on a diet of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple and the like. I have listened to this and many other of their songs in the past week since first coming across Heartless Scat. I saw it among the recommended for me list and wondered if it was some sort of kabuki horror movie, it is but I was floored by the song and have listened to it 12 or more times since and am now watching you 'first reaction' people reacting to it. It is so good. Shinji Wajima studied Buddhism at university and is a very well read man who draws on Japanese literature as well as H.P. Lovecraft etc for lyrical inspiration. So good, please holy angels bring them to Australia.

I love this band. It gives me hope. They're about my age and I've been relegated to playing guitar in classic rock cover bar bands at this stage in life. Shinji, the guitarist, said in an interview that the subject of the song is asking the gods why he has never succeeded in life, then comes to the realization that he's not the only one in the world in that predicament. He's probably also referring to the band. These guys have been together since 1987, but have only enjoyed success in Japan. Only now, in this KZbin age and younger Japanese bands getting attention, are they starting to get international recognition. They're getting ready to do their first tour outside of Japan in Europe. I hope they can achieve a US tour. I'd go see them. I've noticed the "Shinji vs Kanami" clip is linked here in the comments. It's hilarious! Check it out. I would love to see a double header show with Ningen Isu and Band Maid. Awesome contrasts on so many levels!

There were a couple of posts on KZbin pitting the master Isu vs Kanami in a lead guitar face off on a Japanese children's educational TV show. It was just good natured fun and the master Isu and Ms Tono were obviously enjoying themselves. I saw two rounds with Kanami winning round one and the master round two. They had respect and great friendship for each other. What interested me was the fact that this woman with about 8 years in the biz was seen as a worthy opponent to the venerable master who has been shredding for well over 30 years. Isu does a reasonable Jimi Hendrix playing guitar with his teeth. It's worth a look.

These guys are awesome. They've been making music for decades but blew up on KZbin last year. It's great to see them finally getting some of the worldwide attention they deserve. Check out this awesome live performance of "Odoru Issunboushi": kzbin.info/www/bejne/nILFeoqKi8lqp7s. It must be what madness feels like. You can find out more about them on their Wikipedia page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ningen_Isu. They were born in 1965 and 1966. Definite Black Sabbath and old-school metal and rock influences, among other things. I love their look too: a Meiji-era literary scholar, a monk, and a gangster. The name of the band is pronounced with a hard g. It means "The Human Chair," from a short story of the same name. A lot of their music is inspired by Japanese classical literature as well as Poe, Lovecraft, Nietzsche, and so on.

Just got back from Japan and bought their 30th anniversary double album, comes with custom handkerchief and poster. You can hear the maturity of their music grow over time. Their latest songs are very polished, rich and full. Lyrics are incredible and can be related to in the western world. These guys are solid and I hope they some how find their way to Hawaii. They will be touring Europe soon (3 stops). Solid 3 piece heavy metal band. Namahage is another awesome song on this album.

It’s a band that is not famous in Japan Unfortunately, even if I ask 10,000 people, only one person knows it. I'm glad that people from overseas listen to it even if many Japanese don't know… NI N GE N I SU is a heretic, unlike other Japanese musicians. Most of Japanese songs are love songs. However, this band deals with serious and important issues that other bands do not, such as the view of life, religion, morality, and life and death.
