I think the key selling point for air fryers generally is how little oil one needs. Those chips look pretty good. I love chips, but I'm always conscious of the amount of oil required. I have deliberately avoided getting a *deep fat* fryer for many years, because of (a) the amount of oil and (b) having to reuse the oil for several fryings, even if the oil is filtered. So either I buy oven chips, or Iceland sell frozen fry chips made in Belgium where some of the best chips are made. These are absolutely brilliant for shallow frying, but even then, there is quite a lot of oil needed. I use the shallow fry oil once only, then keep the used oil in a container. When it's full I take it to the local waste recycling plant where it is turned into biofuel. But it's an expensive luxury doing chips this way, hence my interest in air fryers. I'm definitely going to get one very soon, and it will be the Ninja Foodie. I just haven't decided yet whether to get the smaller one, which is almost certainly large enough for one person.
@Hondadctrider
@Hondadctrider 2 жыл бұрын
Why would you only use the oil once? It can be used many times, expecially if you are only using it for chips.

Hi. Just watched your video. Very nice looking chips but a bit of a faff to get them to that standard. A few weeks ago I made some in my Ninja whereby I also pressure cooked them first. But I did it on high for 3 mins and it turned them to mush when I tried to transfer them to a bowl to coat them in rhe oil. But like you've replied to a few others its trial and error and we'll find a way that works for us eventually. Since then ive just done them on the air crisp setting at 185 for 20mins and shuffling half way through (but coating them with oil first of course). This seems to work for me. But a good video you've done there. I'll watch more of your videos in future. Cheers.

Hi JayJay. Thanks for your comment. Yes very true that the potato 🥔 used will affect the overall outcome of the chips. However on this occasion they were a bag of cheap Aldi basic potato which tend to change quite a bit on the variety. In kitchens though we generally use Marris Piper's. 🙂

Is it the dual zone Ninja? Rib of beef is a great cut of meat. Usually cooked low and slow on a BBQ (check out my video 😁) I've never tried it in the ninja, however I would cook on roast on lowest setting and wrap it half way with some stock or apple juice and wrap in foil to maintain the moisture. 😊👍

Hi Jak, like anything there's always ways to end up with a better result. Like in a commercial kitchen I could just deep fry potatoes until cooked into chips, or I could cut, wash, steam, chill and then deep fry for a better result. Same applies to air fryer chips. Hope that helps. 🙂👍

Thanks for the comments everyone ☺️ Yes I agree they are not the quickest chips, but they are tasty and much less oil than deep frying. Even in a the restaurant I cook the potatoes twice or three times even when deep frying.... There are chips and there are chips. If you want 30 minute quick chips then cut the potatoes up, toss in oil and air fry away. 😀👍

The foodi just doesn't have the surface area for home chips without hassle. They look lovely but the faff is an exercise in patience. Larger airfryers are better for crisping. I imagine you could make tons of these using the new type megazone airfryer with a little par-boil beforehand.

Absolutely love stainless steel, and will not use a coated product again.This pot has many settings and many buttons, and i need to sit down with a manual to figure out which setting to use. I used the basic functions, and even though i am not technologically skilled, i turned it on and assembled it without any help.Very satisfied with this product overall.
