Well look at you reading the description, or the pinned comment because nobody reads descriptions anymore. The rules for this run are pretty simple, complete the game without upgrading any weapons and without taking damage. No use of the True Dragon Sword or Plasma Sabre MK2 either. This run is segmented, obviously :) Shoutouts to Seraphim17 who gave me the idea for this run, it was mentioned a week or so ago on stream and I thought it’d be cool to experiment with while making the enemy tutorials I have been working on. The original idea was no upgrades and I was only thinking in terms of Murumasa and JOTDS which is why I use the SOTD you get. I didn't think about it until the run was completed that SOTD are essentially a ninpo meter upgrade. I was thinking purely in terms of damage. With that said, now that I am sitting on the other side of a completed run those extra ninpo uses do protect you from some of the BS patterns you'll come across during this run. You're clearly not meant to not have to open up certain bosses 25 times before they die. Upon further reflection, I could have actually upgraded the ninpo as I would count using SOTD as a ninpo upgrade so I could have made my life much, much easier in the later chapters but oh well. There's a run for the next guy as we say. In chapter 13 the technique scrolls are available to purchase from Murumasa once you get the TDS. Due to them being tied to an upgrade I didn’t bother with them but I wouldn’t say this is a rule. At that point in the game they’re not going to be much use anyway outside a couple of encounters. So this run could be called No Damage, No Weapon Upgrades, No Izuna Drop, No Counter Attacks or Guillotine Throw but that title wouldn’t fit in the title field. I threw away a lot of time on being stingy with ninpo use but even without farming you still get plenty of money just from the base fights so there really isn’t any reason to not use it. Hydra 2 and the Flail clone were by far the worst fights in the game. The former due to aforementioned stingyness of me not wanting to use ninpo. The latter required some serious testing due to how low your damage output is and his behaviour changes a lot when he’s below 40% health. There is a set distance where you can actually loop him with the wall cling wall attack but once his health gets low and you hit him a certain amount of times he just goes off the chain. You’re clearly meant to be fighting him with a weapon that kills him in fewer hits. This will come in handy if I ever get back to MN speedruns though. Dare I say the wall attack strat with the UF will be quite consistent. Anyway, back to work on the enemy tutorials now. Enjoy this in the meantime :)

man you've really turned this game into a science. what runs are even left? level 1 wooden sword only? even then that's doable but just tedious. amazing play man.

Thanks, I did do a Wooden Sword run a while ago but used ninpo. That run actually has a lot in common with this run up until the no damage requirement. It's just very boring in certain parts.

Man, I wish I could play this game again, the Black version. The Sigma version is trash. Amazing f*cking gameplay, I actually learned from watching you! I did not knew that you could attack Murai after his dodge flip thing, I always used that wall. 😅 F*cking amazing!!! Also, I used to try the no health-bar upgrade run. But a no weapon upgrade run? Now, that is Master Ninja!!

Hello, Jay! Man, no words on how incredible this run is. If you don't mind the question: are you using intercept technique? I may be seeing wrong, because I thought it wasn't in NG black, but there's like a glow when you block. Maybe it's just my head. Anyways, great job and thanks in advance

Thanks :) To answer your question though, no I am not using Intercept as it's not in NGB, would be awesome if it was though. I imagine one day modders will figure out a way to make it a reality though.

Can't watch this in one go but will watch this by bits, I'm sure is a hell of a run, GG. Also I skipped to see what you meant about the wall attacks on the flails clone, for speedrun sake you think it might work to do that with low health UF? since this is segmented I'm not sure how many tries it took or how consistent it is, a couple of those hits would get him and it's definitely faster than switching to DS and waiting to punish with izuna drop Edit: Nevermind I just read the pinned comment haha, interesting, I will defo mess with it for when I get to MN

Thanks, I will definitely use that for MN in the future. You only need to land it twice and as the fight starts that was very consistent. The snag in this run is that you need to hit the fucker 20+ times lol It should make him on the speedrun a lot less annoying.

You know, I was just gonna fire up streaming 3RE last week. I just had an urge to play it but I didn't becuase if I really dig it I know I'd slack off on the enemy tutorials so I want to get them done first. I might play it after that though. Bigal is doing great, he's just kind of done with NG for the time being I think, maybe even for good.

How many hours did you spend on all versions of the first part of Ninja Gaiden to record this video?

The final save statue shows the total time for this. I did throw away a lot of Hydra 2 and Alma 1 one because I didn't want to use too much ninpo but that wasn't a goal of the run. As for total time across NG04, Black and Sigma.... I genuinely don't know. I can say it's definitely over 10,000 hours, maybe over 15. It gets hard to guess accurately from there.

Crows drop blue essence, so in chapter 1 it's great for UT chaining.

There's not a great deal to explain really, at least from my point of view. Due to having such low damage output the general rule is play as safe as possible. It was only Hydra 2 and the Flail Clone that required a bit of breakdown.
