In 1973 I had a set of store bought "water shoes" and walked on Bald Eagle Lake in Minnesota 🙂 They looked like two pontoons with flaps under to make forward progress easier. They really worked. You couldn´t run on water, it was slow going BUT they worked.

So most professional swordsmen would call catching the blade techniques "Suicide techniques" on purpose. There's an art to it, and grabbing your opponent's sword was only generally done in a grapple.

...but if someone is grabbing an arrow mid air its not from 2 ft away thrh would have more time due to distance and the arrow slowing slightly
@kamalalsb7292
@kamalalsb7292 9 ай бұрын
See I think the grabbing the arrow thing IS possible, but their environment almost isn't random enough? Like take into account distance, wind, angle, all that sorta thing. My suspicion would be that catching arrows isn't ever the default move? But theoretically someone trained trying to be intimidating would have a decent sense of "how far away do I need to be to attempt to catch this arrow without putting myself at risk". No one would reasonably be like "This dude is only 20ft away from me I'm gonna catch his arrow", but maybe at 60 feet, outdoors and with favourable conditions... I dunno? Could be possible.

I was wondering how Tory was going to get his hands out of the mold. I like the compressed air trick. I'm surprised the 'watershoes' were made out of wood. Reeds used for baskets would be better. I had round, shallow, woven trays that were originally for winnowing grains that would have made more sense.

Having watched a lot of Bullshido masters videos recently, there's a pretty good chance that Dale is a Bullshido sensei. The way he handled Adam's clumsy attempt to punch him was absolutely amateurish at best. If this supposed 15th Dan would go hand-to-hand with a mid-tier MMA fighter he'd be done with. He also seemed somewhat reluctant to appear on high-speed cameras :D My guess is if they'd been used to actually film his technique the truth would have been painfully obvious.

Yeah there is no proof that modern Ninjutsu has even anything to do with traditional shinobis. Most real ninjas wouldn't even know any kind of material art since they are just spies and assassins. Killing your foe in his sleep or with poisons would be the get go most of the times, and you don't need to fight to do that.

While I don't think it matters that much, arrows lose some speed over distance, so having the hand rigg and the bow that close is kind of unfair, especially if you would be talking about a battlefield situation

Adam called it in the initial tests: it's about anticipating the loosing of the arrow just before the archer fires. That becomes easier to do with a bit of range. There are a reasonable number of martial artists out there who can reliably demonstrate this technique - though, of course, I say that in the way that there are a "reasonable number" of people who can flip over a car by hand. It's a skill that requires a lot of effort to master, and a real testament to a human's mental and physical capabilities.

The mizugumo IF it accualy is footwheare. looks like its for Snow, not water. (Well tecnicly snow is water but frozen) Yes it is possible to grab a arrow mid flight, if its a weak bow and not fully drawn, and you got the knowledge when the arrow is gonna be shot, and where it will hit. (I'm a archery instructor whit ower 18 years of archery experience. I'm not saying i know everything about archery or that i'm the best at it. But I know enough to know it is possible if the stars align, And you do everything you can to have a favourable outcome. But use a modern bow, whit modern arrows, att full drawlength, and all you are going to catch is the feeling of the arrow going stright trough you.)

Well, that's exactly what Adam did - he was catching slow speed arrows that Jamie sent his way. I mean this shows that you can, indeed, grab an arrow from the air if the conditions are suitable.

Someone sinks into a non Newtonian fluid. Just before they fully sink a rope is tossed to them however it's connected to a high speed winch above them. The winch is fired and the person is pulled up at high speed. What would be the outcome. Does the fluid become hard and hold the person in situe as the winch rips up tearing them in half? Does the fluid release them easily and remain a fluid? What's likely?

They got on each others nerves from time to time certainly. But if you look how they interact there can't be exactly hard feelings. There's a lot of small things, but as an example one story that Adam shared. To make it short: Jamie was doing something and it went wrong. He called Adam to show and after some thinking Adam understood what happened and told Jamie "Now I know something fundamental that I didn't know few seconds ago". And Jamie answered him "That's why I called you". When you feel barely concealed contempt toward someone you don't call them to share some insight about your work. You actually try to share as less with them as possible.

The arrow catching could be achieved by not fastening the grip but by starting a little earlier. Also a normal archer wouldn't stay this close so there's way more time to react and the arrow would have slowed down a little. Then you'd have to look up the shooting speed of actual bows used in ancient Japan - I don't know it, but would guess it's a little slower. Some asian (cross-)bows were built to shoot more arrows in the same time, which definetly flew slower. Plus not every archer and even less every shot was "perfect". As there are people cathing arrows today, I would call the myth totaly not busted. But still you're 100% better of taking cover or wearing some kind of protection... :D

they were way way faster than this 15-20pound kids bow can throw... are you serious? i would expect they had 200 feet per second speed shot from 100pound bow with heavy arrow, thats around the expected speed from the ancient japanese warbow, these guys are shooting really slow arrows, 85fps speed vs real warbow with 200fps speed.... pick any historical time and any warbow, it will be stronger than 99% of recretional or hunting bows we use today 20-80pounds, 80 is alot. its because we dont need 100-180pound warbows anymore, it was all about shooting long distance back than
