Nobody teaches the way you do Prof. Zach Murphy. I am not a medical student, someone with ongoing quest for knowledge and to hopefully find the underlying cause(s) of my chronic nerve pain. I tell all my friends to tell their kids in med school to subscribe to you. You are a gift to this world ! God bless, grateful beyond words. Aloha from Oahu, Hawaii

is there a way to mass "like" all the vids? seriously, blessss youuuu. I'm a very visual learner and at uni profs seem to teach from a super sciency researcher technical point of view, so all the intricate details never clicked and got me super overwhelmed. and here comes this channel to show me NO it IS possible to "science" (using it as a verb here hah) as a former painting student.

I always wondered what was the need for the counter current mechanism. Osmolality at start and end was the same. I have finally figured out the purpose was to create the hypertonic area in the medullary interstitial. The hypertonic area in the medullary interstitial pulls in water from the collecting duct. The mechanism of water transport from the collecting duct is controlled by ADH hormone. Thus by manipulating the ADH secretion, water removal and thus urine concentration is increased. This also explains the beer urination. Alcohol prevents ADH thus increasing water volumes in the urine.

I have a question @ninjanerd. U said 15%, of water is being reabsorbed in the descending limb, while about 25% of Salt is also being reabsorbed in the Ascending limb. But then u also said, that by Obligatory water reabsorption, an equal amount of Salt reabsorbed will also mean an equal amount of water reabsorbed. Then my question is, why is it 15% water reabsorbed in the descending limb, and 25% salt reabsorbed in the Ascending limb and not 15% water and 15% Salt reabsorption?

As always it was the great one. I just have 1 doubt, what if the calcium level in the blood in not low (hypocalcemia)?? if blood calcium is not low then it can't stimulate the parathyroid gland to secret PTH and if PTH is not secreted it can't help is calcium reabsorption. then how will calcium reabsorbed? please answer/reply if you think that the doubt is valid.
