This is an excellent lecture on glial cells, thank you. Just a note that research in the past few years discovered that microglia are actually not from monocytes. They are developed from the embryonic yolk sac during embryonic development, then replenish through self-renewal if needed.

another pretty cool function of astrocytes is their role in the ‘glymphatic’ system, where they can pump excess interstitial fluid accumulating around pial blood vessels thru AQP4 channels to the venous side for reabsorption. excellent lecture as always! :)

I love your lectures. At 20:55, isn't it glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) that converts glutamate to GABA? Pyridoxal 5' phosphate B6 is a cofactor. GABA only differs from glutamate by one carboxyl group. Hey, I'm just some formerly homeless guy w/no special training or degrees, and it's a small detail, but I do like neurology. This plays a key role in anxiety disorders as well as neurodegenerative conditions. I don't know how you find time to produce so many great videos. Thanks.
