Ninjutsu have lost ALL meaning... almost - Analyzing Naruto

In this video I go over why I feel like ninjutsu has been mistreated within the Boruto franchise and give ways I think this can be fixed using logic from

I think people forget Kishimoto was working on Samurai 8 (his sci fi series) before he came back to Boruto. It seems like he's attempting to integrate a lot of the concept and ideas from there into Boruto but I think there is a significant dissonance between the Naruto/Boruto franchise and where he's trying to go. If anything I think Boruto should have been a series taking place 2 generations after Naruto's lifetime if they wanted to go the high tech route.

In shippuden I missed hand signs, I loved when the sharingan was just copy, genjutsu snd predict, managing chakra actually mattered, balance of strategy, jutsu and combat, like actually feeling like ninjas. Imagine we got more world building, village relations, missions like infiltration, guarding etc Naruto had so many cool ideas that could have fleshed out into a balanced, full world of ninjas.

The biggest problem was fights were either BIG FLASHY NUKE RASENGAN fights or really cool hand to hand fights w/ no justu. But ALL the BEST FIGHTS were fights that had a good balance of justu and hand to hand in them. Gaara vs lee, all sasuke vs naruto, obito vs kakashi, madara vs hashirama (these guys were too cool so mecha susanoo vs 1000 hand Buddha is cool).

I think ninjutsu absorption can played well if it means a shift from ninjutsu being about big attacks and instead used more tactically. i.e. less rasengan/chidori , more clones and substitution.

Naruto exploited Deltas ninja tool weakness. Boruto exploited Ao’s ninja tool weakness. There will likely be a ton of Jutsu used on Code bc he can’t absorb with his Karma.

The repetitiveness of absorption is what i really hate. One of the things that made Naruto's fights so good was the uniqueness of the jutsu's and how they clashed against each other because every jutsu had a weakness. Sasuke's susanoo during the five kage summit was the strongest defensive jutsu we'd seen and it was immediately bypassed by the Mizukage's mist release. I think the absorption has been holding that back. Granted i haven't read since like chapter 45 or so. Maybe i gave up too late

That’s shippuden in general though. Shippuden you have character striped down to 1 justu and main strategy unless you’re Naruto or sasuke in which you’re stripped down to 3-5 tools. In the original Naruto even something like simple like chakra control dash, paper bombs and other small things made fights rather unique. Ninja tools became obsolete in shippuden and so did smaller things you can do with chakra

potential fixes for ninjutsu in Boruto: characters mix in their biological material into their jutsu, stopping it from getting absorbed. Code has already set a precedent for this. put "absorption chakra" into their jutsu which could cancel out other absorption techniques. Hashirama is suggested to nulify Madara's preta path with his own absorption and Boruto cancels out Ao's chakra absorption with his own. neither of which I am confident the writers of Boruto will pursue.

That's one of Tobirama's biggest strengths iirc, he can create "real" water, as opposed to how Kisame, Jiraya, and others make water that could be absorbed.

Funny you mention someone absorbing the force Six. We had Darth Nihilus, who could drain the force from things around him, even to the point where he could drain entire planets. But the counter to that was Jedi Exile. Both of them were wounds in the force. But when he tried to drain the force from then Exile, it failed, and it weakened him considerably, enough to be defeated.

The series has been dead for a long time to me. I cannot find a connection to any of these characters anymore. Boruto is not a part of the Naruto franchise I feel. So whatever they do from here on out, I will not mind. However yes, the big flashy ninjutsu used to be a complaint toward the end of Shippuden. The fact they went this route to have more taijutsu means they didn't truly understand the complaints to begin with. Most people never had an issue with ninjutsu to begin with. I think the issue arose when characters started throwing massive explosions w/out handsigns, ninja tactics, or limitations, purely as a brute force assaults. I feel jutsu used to be interesting because of the variety of their uses and the ingenuity of their users. The nuke attacks were fine even earlier on in the series but in moderation and only for certain fights. For example, Orochimaru vs 4 tailed Naruto. An incredibly good example of how a fight utilised both ninjutsu and genjutsu with flashy attacks, would be Deidara vs Sasuke. That fight had it all. Or even the short Kakashi vs Sasuke. Both main Sasuke vs Naruto fights balance this incredibly well too. It shows that ninjutsu and taijutsu can work effectively well with each other and that's what makes a perfect Naruto fight, along with some clever but not long winded tactics. The thing that people weren't happy about from around the middle of the war arc was that ninja and creatures began using big bang powerful moves way too often, getting rid of the magic of seeing it and making them an every day thing. The other reason is, the bijuu dama in particular seemed to have no virtual limits, so they could just be spammed. Plus, Taijutsu became almost not used at all and instead the ninja would almost solely rely on techniques. This was remedied by Naruto vs Sasuke because in my opinion, that battle demonstrated how the two worlds can live in harmony (big flashy attacks + tactics, small jutsu and taijutsu). The hand signs and the setups for jutsu also didn't feel the same for most of the war arc and they still don't in Boruto. Usually, the users would be setting up a fake out, a diversion or something else with jutsu, as well as having to make the actual hand signals. This wasn't present in the war arc for most of it and not in Boruto a lot either. But now... too many ninja can absorb ninjutsu when they want. They have no limit to them. The theme is far overused. On the surface it almost seems like naruto but it lacks the mood and feel of it because of missing elements and how it's executed

Naruto fell into the same trap many other shonen have before, out of control power creep. For some reason raising the stakes in shonen also has to involve a constant, linear power upscaling to the point things become unrecognizable from the initial concept. Dragon Ball had a bunch of fun, quirky fights with a lot of imagination put into them and it all eventually devolved into non stop, indiscernible warp fests with the sporadic new transformation to simulate growth and artificially raise the stakes yet again. Same happened to Naruto. The combat was imaginative and complex and it devolved into Naruto going full saiyan and warping around DBZ style, completely throwing the concept of strategy out the window, even ninjutsu and genjutsu heavy characters forgot how to use their ninja techs and Boruto just made things come full circle with fights being nothing more than slow-mo DBZ.

Just a theory: Orochimaru tried to create a pseudo karma seal. Sage creatures date back to the time of otsuki, so what if he stumbled upon some ancient otsuki stuff dealing with karma, and decided to make his own. Makes me wonder why people compare kuruma and momoshiki when momoshiki wants a fresh new body just like orochimaru. Also the 100 healings, is literally a karma that you store your own data in overtime. I rarely see people talking about these things because its mostly hate. But I think its a reason these characters are still around and relevant in the story💯 EDIT: now that I think about it, orochimaru is the closest thing we got to an otsuki. From his hunger for absolute power, to his methods of getting what he wants. Isshiki was what orochimaru wanted to be….. almost

The "Jõnin" could have found a way around him, but instead they all attack at once and get wasted You know who doesn't need Ninjutsu? Rock Lee(7 gates), Choji(Large scale attacks to zone the enemy), Hanabi(Stronger than Hinata with Byakugan) Tenten would have gotten more screentime with the modern ninja tools but the writers are drunk Isshiki can't absorb Ino's mind transfer, as soon as Shikamaru binds him, he won't be able to absorb the shadow cuz of Ino So much wasted potential...

Well the thing with Boruto was that towards the end of Shippuden, apparently people were complaining about the flashy jutsu's and saying that taijutsu wasn't used enough. So they found a way to make taijutsu relevant again by creating the karma. There is ninjutsu, but it's not big and flashy like it used to be. I really do hope they at least up their game on ninjutsu.

The problem I have with this show (besides the boring slice of life filler) is if your not a member of an OP clan (Uchiha, Senju, Uzumaki, Otsutsuki, etc) or have some broken curse mark you essentially have no real chance. That wouldn't be a big deal if it didn't leave out all the the side ninjas progression. Epic fights like rock lee vs gaara, shikimaru vs, hidan, or choji vs jirobo are a thing of the past. The 4th great shinobi war was full of amazing fights where a bunch of side characters got moments to shine. (Might Guy vs. Madara still gives me chills) And its a real shame I grew up watching naruto and quickly became an avid reader but this spinoff just seems hella lame in comparison. 🤷🏿‍♂️

With Naruto and Sauske being the strongest basically a natural human can be. Being a cyborg or alien was literally the only option. So absorbing ninjutsu was a hard counter to anything Naruto and Sauske can do. The end of Naruto wrote them in kinda of a corner. It’s obvious they didn’t want it to turn into DBZ with basically energy blast all over the place. The plot armor point is legit but it also was in Naruto.

Even outside of absorbing abilities, with characters like Eida, Damon, and Isshiki to a degree, ninjutsu has definitely lost pretty much any meaning. Isshiki could absorb ninjutsu but his shrinking ability also made almost all ninjutsu null and void. Regular ninjutsu hasn't been relevant in a longggg time. Add in ninja tools becoming more commonly used amongst everyone and it will just get worse. I think it was definitely a mistake to take the series so heavily in this direction.

@@tmac1499 think of how varied the villain designwere from naruto up to shippuden. orochimaru, sasori, pain, obito, edo madara, even zabuza and haku all looked not only cool, buyt memorable and distinct. on tthe other hand, if you showed a non-naruto fan an image of juubi madara, juubi obito, kgauya, momoshiki, etc, theyd prob not even be able to get their names right the whole otsutsuki thing sucks because not only does it mean the majority of villains are just going to be space enemies with no real attachment to the characters, unlike in naruto/shippuden (painwas a corrupted jiraya student, obito was kakashis teammate, madara was a historic figure, even zabuza was a rogue ninja from a competing village), but it also means they all generally look the same, a bland kaguya template with horns and a white robe. boruto villains that are just op robed planet busters with loose relations to kaguya are lame af i cant care about naruto and sasuke vs momoshiki no matter how well animated it is if he's just some nobody the writers pulled from space. even dbz did this better by having raditz arrival connect to goku by explaning his previously mysterious backstory

The ultimate problem Boruto will never escape is following up on all the controversial ideas of Naruto's ending. Indra, and everything to do with Kaguya are not well loved additions, but they set the bar for power going forward. And since Boruto was shonen and didn't want a lower stakes story than the last one, it decided to choose between elaborating on the most hated villain or creating something completely new and out of left field. Danzo is up there for most hated as a person, but he's a well liked addition to the series because many found his death satisfying, whereas many don't care about Kaguya as a person but she's the most hated villain addition to the series, that or Black Zetsu who's her bitch. Writing for Boruto is not a position I envy.

Jutsu is what made me watch Naruto in the first place. The spectacle of the combat on display was what drew me in. I'm not sure how they're going to recapture that in this setting, where generic technology is starting to take over. Ninjutsu hasn’t lost it’s meaning. The only reason there’s lack of ninjutsu in Boruto right now is because during the Shippuden years people complained about it being too much with all the chakra blasts and ninjutsu being thrown around and it not being ninja enough. Toyotaro who loves DB and choreographs every DAMN fight with mostly taijutsu now does it for those two reasons. Thank Shippuden whiners for all the 30 second lack luster taijutsu fades.

How does one test for the kekkei genkai transformations? What even is a kekkei genkai at the end of the day? How do you learn fuinjutsu? How did animals get chakra in the first place? If chakra control is fundamental in creating jutsu why aren't Sakura and Tsunade among the most skilled at ninjutsu (bar medical ninjutsu)? How do dojutsu even work? Do your eyebals replace handseals? Is it the chakra in the brain or the eyeball itself? Like half of the basic of chakra aren't ecven explored until Shippudden. We didn't learn thing anything about how ninjutsu is actually created (nature transformation, shape transformation, Ying, Yang, Senjutsu, etc) until Naruto was already a decade in. The running out of chakra thing is entirely arbitrary throughout the series. Techniques that should common place throughout the ninja world simply aren't used by characters with access to them and relagated to data book quick facts. One of the biggest missed opportunities in the series combat was the strategy of removing your opponents ability to use handseals (like the Haku fight or the final fight in Naruto proper). You'd imagine this would be a pretty normal considering how Kakashi reacted to Haku being able to weave seals with one hand but no. By Shippudden just about any character could produce ninjutsu with a single seal, one handed, or without seals at all. TL;DR Chakra as power system falls vicitim to not having a strong enough foundation and being completely inconsistent.

And they won't try making ninjutsu, genjutsu or even taijutsu important again because the series doesn't want any character to be better or stronger than Boruto or Kawaki. At least in Naruto it took a while for the main characters to get to that point, but in Boruto, the two of them get it all right away. It's why Naruto and Sasuke are still the most interesting in the new gen, with Sarada being the only kid I really care about.

sealing jutsu and his apllications has been used a lot in boruto anime, we have seen for example the izuno clan's cat covering sealing chackra in a scroll, the ninja tool also is a usage for sealing jutsu and many others. overall in boruto they expanded the less known jutsus who haven't been used in a battlefield and created a society half technology/half chackra ever so similar to fantasy society based on magic items with mana stones. new weapons have been added and some are amazing, the only problem is that they put it against against an otsutsuki or a main cast character which is too powerful of an opponent or they used it on common ninjas literally changing the flow of the battle. as long as you don't put them against the true main cast necessary for plot or use them as an escamotage to during the chunin exam, all weapons and tecniques added are and would have been even more amazing and could have been expanded more if the main story didn't focus only on otsutsuki invaders too powerful to fight if you don't steal their planetary destruction jutsus.

I personally feel ninjustsu fell off when the show turned into giant magic monster and energy balls. I'm still mad kakashi only ever use like 10 ninjustsu in the entire show. Even the he is the copy ninja of 1000 jutsu

When it comes to technology in boruto from Naruto, There are a lot of inconsistencies. In Naruto kishimoto barely tried to include tech but in 15 years of span, we have every tech of the human world which humans themselves found after 50-60 yrs of time. About failure of ninjutsu and genjutsu, kishimoto and kodaichi, again both are responsible. In shippudden, we have 4-5 characters who can absorb ninjutsu but now in shippudden, literally everyone can absorb ninjutsu even tho they are 12yrs old.

I was always confused why in Shippuden Dojutsu has literally nothing to do with eyes. Like what in the world is the relationship between a giant samurai mech and special eyes? Sharingan's original ability was being able to 'see' chakra and 'see' enemy movements faster

Susanoo is a reference to a Japanese myth about a character named susanoo who defeated a eight headed snake monster named yamata no orochi. This is why kishimoto gave itachi the susanoo and had him absorb orochimaru to reference the myth.

All the MS abilities are based on japanese lore mainly the deities. Komo, Amaterasu, susanoo, tsyukiomi etc. That’s the connection between them. And what do you mean dojutsu have nothing to do with the eyes? Literally the MS abilities and base sharingan abilities require the eyes, except susanoo.

I remember Naruto was all about him having no talent but with hard work, and using the burden that is the tailed beast, persevere. Now Narutard is from a unique clan from his Mother's side that is known to have extremely massive Chakra pool, and a genius 4th Hokage Father that Both loved him dearly. One things that's been screaming in the back of head for the past few chapters of Boruto is how tf Amado create these op super robots. With Delta it wasn't all too bad, but then Aida and her brother showed and I was just stumped on how they had these busted ass abilities. If I'm missing something, someone please help me understand.

I lost all interest and passion for the franchise thanks to Boruto. People hype up the manga so much, but I just don't care about anything that's going on. Half the time Kishimoto is too busy explaining why the old characters now suck ass & why the new villains are so cool and strong even though their personality & goals are stupidly shallow and pale in comparison to the villains in Naruto. The Kawaki & Boruto dynamic was interesting at first but after the first arc with them together things just got stale and there's no substance in that relationship

@@terencebarnes7393 I don't know where you got that idea, though I don't know why having old characters getting stronger is such a foreign concept in animes, like people past their 30s can't learn anything new... But anyway, my complaints mostly center around the uninteresting new characters (specially the villains), the lack of character depth & the continuous power scale and the need for the author to justify why this character is stronger than the last and why we should fear them instead of actually showing us (like Madara's introduction for example)

@@l3fari0us42 Yea the villains are not great but I didn’t expect anything better then old villains. Most of there issues are were human, and come from that perspective. The goals are now pretty simple, but I don’t mind really because felt thats where it was going because were we were at in terms of power scale. After while people would have got bored if there was no stakes and the way was so kind alien influence. Naruto and Sauske aren’t Goku and Vegeta who fight just for fighting sake. Naruto completed his ultimate goal. I don’t want to see slice of life in office and then fight here and there. I don’t mind handing keys to someone who isn’t a carbon copy of Naruto. The story never was going to be better then Naruto. Many people grew up with show. So that was a strike against it and for it.
