Oni Kudaki (demon crush) and its variations are great to explore. Each of the hanbo bunkai have equivalent empty-hand techniques that complement them, reinforcing the biomechanics behind them.

I suspected as much - kinda like the "riai" system within iwama Aikido. good to know!

I would have to add also that there is no reason you cant keep both hands on the hanbo for that last technique. That was just an exercise to focus on working the hanbo with the body movement and footwork.

as always, many similarities with the use of the Jo, but I like the way it switches between a striking and manipulation tool in the same flow.

Nice moves, but what if he grabs your stick? In almost all those moves, if he got one hand on the stick, it could have turned out very differently.

From my perspective, in both knife defense techniques, the moves after the initial deflection actually moved the knife into a zone where you had no cover. I'm not sure if that would be a reliable technique in real life. The initial deflection could work. But then ...?

Show us what you would do if he grabbed the stick. He ca get one hand or two hands on it while you are holding it in front of you. Also your wrists are conveniently postitioned for him to grab you by the wrist and do really ugly things with you. You never want to expose your wrists like that, stick or no stick. In stick fighting in SA Zululand, you start and end the fight with the stick raised above your head and the other hand out in front as if you are holding a shield. Your fancy tricks won't do much better than if he struck you from way above his head on your head. You will be out with a cracked skull. The Zulu stance also puts the fear of God into the person who is in opposition.

Yes we have some very effective methods for people grabbing the stick or wrist so will show that next time just to clarify. This was a specific set of methods and if i included every potential counter or counter to that then it would have taken a lot longer than the allocated session. In escrima which i also practice the main goal is to strike the hands or control the wrist. This wasnt stick vs stick at any point in the video.

@nicktomlinson8701 Let me know when you post. I'd like to see what you do when an experienced street fighter grabs onto that stick or your wrist/s, the way you were holding that stick. Bear in mind that they person grabbing your wrist/s or getting a hold on your stick might be very strong so you can't just move him around. Every other way I can think of when you move to get the stick away will open you up to a brutal attack by his punches or his kicks. I know stick to stick is different. I just thought I would mention that.

@@dhjoubert39 your creating an imaginary scenario in your head based on assumtions and what ifs. Maybe perhaps stick to your zulu warrior thing if thats what works for you and ill keep doing what i do. Have a nice day. 😎
