@@TheSnappleFactss The Origami King came out on Switch. Basically, the first two Paper Mario games (Paper Mario 64 and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door) are absolutely beloved, particularly TTYD. The series went in a new, experimental direction with Super Paper Mario, and although that game is still liked it's a little more polarizing. Then, starting with Paper Mario: Sticker Star on the 3DS up until Paper Mario: The Origami King on Switch, the series went in a radically new direction that although does have its fans, is generally considered to be inferior to the beloved first two. The Paper Mario fandom has basically spent the last decade begging for a return to form, and more specifically a rerelease of The Thousand Year Door on a modern console. The announcement of this remake is basically a dream come true.

⁠@@AppleWoods6I almost always feel the need to correct someone who says something along these lines, but Miyamoto isn’t really the problem with modern Paper Mario. Miyamoto hasn’t even been involved with any Paper Mario game since Sticker Star, and it’s been made very clear from interviews from people such as current series Producer Kensuke Tanabe that they have had no desire to rethink how they were making these games after the fact. Miyamoto simply thought that Sticker Star wasn’t “unique” enough and since then, that’s basically the only input he’s had toward the series. And Miyamoto has gone on record saying that this way of thinking he used to have doesn’t reflect how he thinks anymore. Either way, it’s basically Tanabe who’s been stubbornly pushing the series further and further down the path that it’s been on (up until now at least maybe!)

Obviously the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake was the best announcement this Direct for me (it’s deeply meaningful to me for a number of reasons), but the F-Zero 99 announcement and shadow-drop might be my second favorite announcement, glad to see F-Zero is back in a fun and addicting format! More info on the Princess Peach game was also great, and seeing Trace Memory/Another Code get revived as well makes me happy, since I love it whenever Nintendo revives their older, more obscure games. Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Trombone Champ, and Diddy, Funky, and Pauline in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe were also favorites of mine.

Best parts of this Direct "Tomb Raider Remastered" announced for PS5 aswell as it should be and Wartales coming as a timed console launch, which means its definitely going mutliplat at some point, watched someone stream it on PC and it looks great.

Thousand year door was a very nice surprise. Great to see so much support for first party titles and some decent indie titles late in the life of the switch. Would have liked samus over Pauline in mario kart but we can't have it all. Great direct!

As cool as Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door getting a remaster is, I wish Nintendo would do the same for the original N64 Paper Mario. That game holds a special place in my heart. Though I couldn't tell any difference in graphics from what I remember about TTYD. The only thing I noticed is different (or, redone) is the music.

I've realized that I'm less of a F-Zero fan and more of just a Captain Falcon fan since when its JUST the racing its not enough for me personally but since most F-Zero fans who are streamers are either super excited or say its good for the series. Trace Memory / Another Code is one of the... like... 8 DS games I own. I played it when it launched, loved it and promptly forgot close to everything about it. Really wanted to replay it, even. Great to see it remade. Also nice to see it bundled with a sequel, as one of the things I do remember about the game is it being relatively short.

TTYD is one of the few games I think that manages to live up to the near impossible levels of hype around it. The game has so much imagination and creativity within its runtime that even thinking about its best moments is almost enough to get me emotional. The game just has that sort of power. Looking forward to the remake not just so us old fans can revisit it but so a new generation can experience its magic firsthand. For anyone who hasn't played it yet, even if you hate RPGs like I do, please don't pass this one up.

Super mario rpg, paper mario and paper mario ttyd are all great, I highly recommend them even in their original form to this day.

The funniest part to me is that the peach/computer scene is one of the most memorable/popular clips from the Game Grumps playthrough of TTYD. that reveal and line specifically are in almost every clip. I just hope it runs on a smooth 60fps like the original. This will mark 20 years since the original and it's looking amazing. They don't need to change anything else at all either. The game is big enough, fun enough, challenging to a point, that it's a fine release all on it's own.

Speaking of, with all these remakes and remasters, we need Prime 2 Echoes Remastered next. Just like TTYD, 2024 will be Prime 2's 20th anniversary as well! Fun fact, got both games for Christmas 2004. That was a good Christmas morning that year!

When I first moved in with my (now) wife, it was Paper Mario TTYD that I played in the evenings while she watched. It was the game that introduced her to Nintendo and Mario and she is now a massive Nintendo fan, along with our kids. I've noticed when they remake a game they tend to add some bit of post-game or additional content to it (such as the post-game bosses in SMRPG) so I'll be interested to see if they add something additional to TTYD.
