Looks like my video got picked up by the algorithm. I appreciate all the views and comments I've received lately. I haven't uploaded to KZbin in almost a year but already had plans in place to address that so if you like this video please subscribe as I will be making a comeback soon. Also I'm very active on Twitter so if you would like to come and check out all the work I've been busy doing please give me a follow. twitter.com/DragonsHoardMod To all of you that are just now finding out about the UltraHDMI kit I'm sorry to tell you that it has been unavailable for OVER 1 Year! I actually recommend getting a N64 RGB board installed and to couple that with the OSSC as it will give you similar results to the UltraHDMI. Plus having the OSSC give you TONS more HDMI options for most of your other Retro Consoles. If you're really wanting the OSD (On Screen Display) I would recommend finding the N64RGB Advanced board. I will leave a few links below..... OSSC videogameperfection.com/products/open-source-scan-converter/ N64RGB Board etim.net.au/shop/shop.php?crn=207&rn=561&action=show_detail Need an Installer? I'm ready for you! dragonshoardgaming.com/info/N64RGB%20Advanced

Sorry for the noob question but why do you replace those capacitors? Are they broken? Do you need the new ones for the UltraHDMI Kit? Is there a practical use besides a possible but not guaranteed longer livetime?

richieb74 you are correct. The caps used in N64 consoles are of high quality and I have yet to run into bad ones in a N64. I offer the service as a preventative maintenance as all electrolytic will fail over time and some customers prefer me to change them out while I’m inside their consoles doing other work. Thanks for the comment!

Great video! Just thought I'd add my tips, since I've done a few hundred of these. ;) First, there's usually no need to deliberately remove the Expansion/Jumped Pak. It'll typically pop off with the top shell! Next, make sure you lift the heat sink from the back (cartridge slot side) or you risk lifting the RAM, with only has enough pins on the back side. Third, the cart slot is removable in case you need more room to work. Just lift both sides evenly to avoid breaking the plastic wings. Probably a good idea to look under there anyway and try to remove debris that has settled. Some of them look really nasty even though it's usually just factory flux leftovers and a little dust/hair. Fourth, the cable has notches that you are supposed to fold between in order to make your two folds. It's usually best to make that first one before you make your PIF/via connection. Last, make sure you slot the heat sink tabs inside both sides of the Expansion/Jumper Pak slot before you screw anything else down to ensure proper alignment. I can't count how many times I've found it improperly seated after someone else has been inside (typically when I salvage someone's failed UltraHDMI install).

@blinkachu3394
@blinkachu3394 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on whether the HDMI card upscales yes or no, some do, some don't. But it allows you to easily connect old consoles such as this to HDTVs, not only through the ease of use with just 1 cable rather than having to use something like an OSCC, but also the signal itself is way easier for the TV to recognize as its a digital signal out of the console, rather than an analogue one that needs to be converted by either the TV or a separate upscaler.

Congratulations on your great work on modifying the console. I'm a new subscriber. Is this mod equivalent to an adapter that is sold on the market that is inserted in the av output of the nintendo 64? Here in Brazil it is common to make the mod rgb (which is not native to the console). This hdmi mod is new to me. Success for you.

I have this same Nintendo NUS-CPU-09 2000 board in my Pokemon N64 with Pikachu on it and it needs new capacitors. It turns out these boards caps go bad and can result in no sound like on my board. I just ordered some new caps and I will be replacing them to fix it. I just wish I had an UltraHDMI kit to put in it as well!!

In my experience dremels like to grab and I'm just not comfortable taking the risk of damaging a customers console. I've hand filed 100's of HDMI ports since this video so I've gotten a lot better. Thanks!

What do the new caps do for the system ? I’m curious as I’ve never heard of changing em
@HavokTheToast
@HavokTheToast Жыл бұрын
This is an old comment, but my best guess is that capacitors from 1999 - 2007 were prone to failure and they simply replaced the caps just to prevent any failure from potentially faulty caps.

I don't understand this. Does it upscale the image to 1080p? Because the n64 is still putting out the resolution it had before or not?

PLEASE PLEASE include a warning about taking about the power supply, no matter how strong the power supply it is still dangerous to take it apart and risk shocking yourself severely.
@Sun-ut9gr
@Sun-ut9gr 4 жыл бұрын
It's really not. Unless you're taking the thing apart while it's still plugged in, the caps won't be energized by the time you get inside of it. Those caps aren't large enough to hold anything dangerous for long.

Great video! How long do you think these new capactors will last for? I'm curious of how often one may need to replace them
@dragonshoardgaming5514
@dragonshoardgaming5514 5 жыл бұрын
Well the ones in the N64 are already very nice high quality caps and have already lasted 25+ years. I consider this to be preventative maintenance and would hope that the new high quality caps I use would last another 25+ years. However some consoles have extremely piss pore quality caps and if haven't been recapped by now have probably leaked and done damage to the board! Like the Sega Game Gear, Sega CD or NEC Turbo Duo all had shit 90's era SMD caps.

Dragons Hoard Gaming oh wow. I didn’t realize there is an off chance of old caps damaging the board :o I’m just starting to learn about this stuff. Thanks the PSA!
