I got the alarms, and I happen to sleep on the floor, I put the box of it under the clock to lift it up a little so it is on the same level of my pillow, it works perfectly for me. I am the one that is easy to wake up and lays on bed for a little more time on my phone after I woke up, and the middle level intensity’s option that unlocks after logging into my NSO account works just perfect for me. I wake up easily while Zelda says “Wake up, Link”, I move a little, the music stops, and eventually every few minutes, it make some noise, I move a around a little, and 20 minutes later, I hear the guardian aiming at me, I jumped out of my bed, Link makes a spin attack, the guardian dies. Amazing experience, I won’t need to worry about staying in bed on phone for too long anymore and won’t accidentally fall asleep again while I am in bed on my phone. It is expensive, but the more time I spend with it, I think more that it worse the money.

I have all the Labo sets. They’re neat to mess around with but one of the best things I remember is the build process. Everything just fits together no extra tools required. I think the VR see is the best as it’s the one I’ve went back to the most. I got it before I had any real experience with “proper” vr and it was really cool to mess with. Smash, Mario Odyssey, and Captain Toad all support it but they have their own separate modes for vr. Breath of the wild on the other hand allows you to play the ENTIRE game in “vr”. It’s more like stereoscopic 3D. I actually played through the entire great plateau and then some (in vr). It was neat but very pixelated haha
@TechnoEstate2 ай бұрын
_"It’s more like stereoscopic 3D."_ ...which is the core of VR. I've been saying for almost two decades now that all that motion-sensing stuff added on top can be nice but mostly adds bulk (and cost) to the core experience. There's a reason why even within the dye-hard VR community, joypad-centered VR has become "the new thing"...
@Manito4182 ай бұрын
@@TechnoEstate I know that’s what it is at its core, I just meant with breath of the wild specifically you ONLY get the 3D effect and the camera is connected to your head. The in game camera is the same and turning your head only stimulates moving the right stick, which is a bit of a bummer. The other first party labo vr games experiences allow you to look around the game world in a way that’s closer to what I’d say is “traditional” vr
@Dorgpoop2 ай бұрын
@@TechnoEstate The motion sensing stuff is nice, but really what good vr needs is first person, which is why it doesn't work amazingly on breath of the wild. Captain toad treasure tracker is one of the only switch vr supported games that plays in first person and because of that I found it the most immersive.

About Nintendo labo... A younger sibling of mine used to play labo quite often. For this reason, we put strap around the vr headset so it could be work like a usual headset. It was quite fun when it worked, but they often needed assistance putting the thing on. They would go for several hours at a time, and usually walk away with a mild headache. It was not adjustable, so very tight and uncomfortable, since it was just a homemade solution. This sibling also complained about neck pains and nose pains from using the vr "headset" for long periods of time. They often played the labo games (?), like the robot game, the kitchen game, those little puzzle games. I tried the VR aswell, and spent at most i believe 2 hours in breath of the wild. It was definitely fun, but not first person like i'd hoped, and i ended up having a painful headache after playing. Also, the cardboard was not that durable. We had to fix our makeshift headset with tape many times.

Just found your channel - very well done! Fully agree that Nintendo is an entity of pure chaos. You could give me 1000 chances to guess what nintendo would do next and an interactive alarm clock would not be on my list. I also didn't expect them to a mysterious online playtest program for... something? They refuse to tell us what and that's incredibly confusing to me. They asked the people who managed to sign up (in the seconds it was available) to not tell anyone about what they experience but obviously they aren't going to be able to keep 10000 people quiet? Is this some kind of reverse psychology to get people more interested in what the hell this is? In the end you just kinda have to shrug and say, Nintendo is an entity of chaos - I have no clue what they're thinking or what they're about to do. Everyone is waiting on pins and needles for the switch 2 to be announced and Nintendo just come out of nowhere and say "hey guys, we made a funny alarm clock that makes bing bang wahoo sounds" - that's incredibly funny.

I actually bought all 4 labo sets. I bought the labo vr one first and it’s actually really cool from an engineering perspective. The way the build comes together and the resistance you feel when you press the trigger on the blaster or when you use the elephant one to draw or move marbles is really cool. It’s really cool to see the joycon controllers use the infrared camera in the back of it to detect reflective tape to orient yourself in the game. Or build a wacky looking bird and wind petal to get some wind when you fly around. The labo games for the VR kit was cool but the best part that you’ll see to all of these kits are the build. The only other games that supported VR was Mario Odyssey which was like 3 lame levels with a fixed camera that you’d move around to see Mario, Captain toad had a few levels (I never played it), and you can play all of Breath of the Wild in VR if you hate yourself. Smash bros supported it later as well but I remember it being fairly limited. Dont play the Banjo Kazoie stage in VR btw. The biggest missed opportunity is that all labo kits have a game maker that’s actually pretty detailed and good but you couldn’t share them online with other people. That and they missed the chance to take advantage of the camera vr creation to do Pokémon snap. The next one I got was the robot for like 25 bucks. The build takes like 4 hours and that was the best part. The game kinda sucks though. The way you need to move your whole body around so the strand in the backpack move a cardboard weight with reflective tape with a bunch of wires is pretty tiring. It does make a cool sound though for every step you take. I bought the Car kit next and the game is ok. It’s like an open world driving game for kids. But you can use the cardboard steering wheel and cardboard gas petal for Mario kart, so I’ve messed around with it quite a bit since this one is the best supported in an actual game. My only complaint with how it’s used in Mario kart is with the gas petal being used as both a gas petal and drift button depending on how low the joycons accelerometer goes. Inside the steering wheel it uses a bunch of rubber bands to give the wheel proper resistance and reflective tape to determine the vehicles orientation which is picked up through the cameras infrared sensor. I have not built the first kit yet but I heard the games are the most limited on that one. Overall though, I think it was one of the most creative and interesting products Nintendo has ever done and I still wish that they’d make more. That being said I’m an engineer so I may be a little biased. Especially since I used some of those extra parts for a few projects in college. The labo stuff eventually got turned into game maker garage where other people could share their game creations but you needed to look up games through number codes. So that was dumb especially since it didn’t support the labo kits.

It definitely works a lot better when the clock is above the bed I think, I was worried cause mine is placed like twice as far as they say to and also higher, but it has worked pretty well. If anything I'd say it's a bit too sensitive to movement, it would be nice if I could have the alarm take longer to make go away. Most of the complaints I've seen have been from people who have it really close or under their bed (or not high enough). It uses a 24ghz radar for the movement sensor. I hope they update to let us do sleepy sounds for like an hour and not just 5(or 10 if you didn't update) minutes. That and the device not being able to have the alarm functional during a power outage are my biggest minuses, but at least it can be sort of solved with a passthrough power bank. Honestly it works better than I thought it would, but it was still a bit expensive. I just mainly hope they keep updating it with new features and games/alarms. The dev interview they put out about the alarmo is also really interesting. Apparently this thing was in development for like 10 years which is insane to think about.

Phones in your room are a bad idea since you'd be tempted and able to easily use it, hurting your sleep overall, which is why dedicated alarm clocks are still valuable today; this is incredibly common sleep advice. $100 is probably slightly overpriced, true, but I don't think this is for everyone. I could see this being for: -kids whose parents don't want them having phones nearby -people who don't want to go through with that hassle of placing said music on their alarm (as someone who has done something similar in the past with ringtones, it was easy but still too much hassle for plenty of people) -people who like the sleep tracking feature -people who like more friction to their alarm clocks (having to actually get out of bed to turn it off instead of hitting buttons and forgetting) Essentially, I don't think they're really trying to replace anyone's existing similar setup, but maybe offer an alternative like for the above options as something for a small segment of their audience. Labo sold 1 million units and won some awards, Wii Fit did well, Ring Fit Adventure did well, Game Builder Garage is solid, Lego sets and new movies and park expansions and the museum are on the way - plenty of examples of stuff that's accessible to, but not necessarily for everyone.

Of course I don't disagree that Nintendo is an entropy machine fueled by wild chaotic energy, BUT, as someone who's been following them since the SNES era in real time, they do seem to switch between two distinct modes, which I very creatively call "winning" and "losing" modes. These are somewhat predictable… if not on the WHAT they produce, at least on HOW good that "produce" is. Nintendo's biggest "winning mode" eras were during the SNES, the DS, the Wii, and now with the Switch. What has been produced in each of these eras? The SNES era gave us the N64 and the GameCube. The DS era gave us the 3DS. The Wii era gave us the WiiU. There's a pattern: when Nintendo is on "winning mode", they get coward, stop going hard on innovation, and instead make products that always follow a formula of making a new version of what's successful now, with a small twist. The N64 is "SNES, but 3D". The 3DS is "NDS, but 3D". The WiiU is a "Wii, but ~confusing~ with a tablet". This is why I can't manage to get myself super hyped on whatever the successor to the Switch turns out to be. Because I "know" it will be "Switch, but [small difference]". Nintendo's best stuff is NEVER "old thing, but [small difference]". Because Nintendo's best stuff ALWAYS comes from Nintendo on "losing mode". Nintendo's biggest "losing mode" eras were during the GameCube, the Wii U, and the early 3DS time. And what has been produced in each of these eras, might I ask? The best things Nintendo has ever put out, that's what! The three best AND most successful Nintendo machines of all time in the post-Playstation world were the Nintendo DS, the Wii, and the Switch. They were ALL greenlighted in times when Nintendo was in deep "losing mode". The Nintendo DS and the Wii were both products of the GameCube era, when Nintendo became the industry's underdog for the very first time. And the Switch is clearly addressing both the Nintendo 3DS shortcomings and, of course, the spectacular failure that was the WiiU. So, yeah, I don't know. I love Nintendo and I don't want to be right on this. I sincerely wish they break this pattern - because, if they don't, the writing is on the wall. Nintendo has inarguably been in the longest and strongest "winning mode" era they've ever been ever since the PlayStation was released. This doesn't bode well for their next machine in terms of it not being disappointing.

honestly, them in losing mode, being more conservative, is likely good for the survival of fan projects. or not. idk honestly they did that dumb shit during the wii u generation where they were not allowing any kind of videos that werent vetted by them

Ok chaos object speculation. The next console will not be a mainline console ie switch 2 that won’t come out until end of 2025 or early 2026. The next console will have all pre Wii Nintendo games on it that makes you play so much time of a game in a console generation before unlocking the next generation. So you have to say beat level 1-1 of Mario on the nes before unlocking snes games.
