The funniest part about your wii not being thirsty... is that i had a transport issue with a PS4 that ended up submerged in orange juice. I figured since that happened, might as well run it under the tap. Then, unlike every phone ive got wet and subsequently ruined, I waited probably a week for it to dry. And to my amazement, it worked and still works like 3-4 years later 😂🎉

Nintendo sued Blockbuster twice as well. Once in 1989 over Copyright Infringement. Nintendo filed a lawsuit against Blockbuster for renting out video games without including the original manuals. Nintendo argued that the absence of the manuals constituted a violation of their copyrights since the manuals were essential for understanding the gameplay. Blockbuster countered by creating their own photocopied versions of the manuals, which escalated the legal conflict. The case was eventually settled, with Blockbuster agreeing to stop distributing the manuals. And then a second time in the 1990s over Game Piracy Concerns. Nintendo accused Blockbuster of indirectly enabling piracy by renting games that could potentially be copied. Although this case was part of Nintendo's broader fight against piracy and the unauthorized use of its products, it did not result in a major ruling against Blockbuster.

I finished Golden Eye on all 3 difficulties. And unlocked every cheat. You end up unlocking 007 mode, which allows you to edit the enemy intelligence, how well they aim, and how fast they respond. It's been bloody years since I played 007 mode.

The problem for Nintendo with the Game genie was on the one hand that they lost the power of how their games and how they were used. you never know what rubbish people doing by modifing the games (like health issues when you alter the frame rates/light intensity oder stuff like that) AND on the other hand you could argue beating a game too fast makes buying them less neccessary and renting them more attractive what Nintendo really hated back in the day when Blockbuster offered their games for rent for a fraction of the sales price. But do not get me wrong I am totally on the side of game genie for this one, cause the interest of the people to modifiy the media they own is more important than the abstract fears of misuse by a company selling us stuff

I'm a bit older than Simon and my childhood (USA) was like he imagined US childhoods. Playing the street, hiking in the woods, riding our bikes to each other's houses to play NES in the '80s! I still have my original NES and Game Genie. I had some of the codes committed to memory back then, for SMB3 and some others. They made similar devices even for Playstation 2, I had a Gameshark CD disc for that. Kirby's Adventure was also a favorite, along with Yoshi and Yoshi's Cookie (both puzzle games like Tetris).

According to an article I read several years ago, Donkey was a mistranslation of the Japanese word for Monkey. By the time Nintendo realized their mistake they had already printed the game and labels so they just changed the name rather than scrap everything

Every time you boot up a game-boy game it displays the Nintendo logo. The console checks to confirm that the logo displayed is pixel perfect and refuses to boot if the data is scrambled or corrupted. This is another way that Nintendo prevents bootleg cartridges, as the fake games would have to display the Nintendo logo in order to boot, which would be in breach of trademark and licencing laws.

Correction: 7 and i holdings is Japanese, 7-11 is an american franchise company. The 7 and i holdings was a split made when a japanese bussinessman traveled to the US to start a franchise chain in Japan, there were legal battles and the Japanese just made it their own property after those legal battles. Its the same name (roughly) and the same brand but its not the same structure or company in that sense.

Miyamoto used the world Donkey for a stand in for stubborn, which is kind of an old-fashioned way of doing it even then, and he used Kong as a way of indicating a "large ape".

Legal documents from Nintendo v Universal are available online. It went viral a while ago that from these documents, Donkey Kong started off as a Popeye game. Sprite size limitations left Nintendo dissatisfied with how Popeye would appear on screen, so they opted out of the license and crafted a new charater who would fit within those limitations.

The reverse engineering "loophole" is a thing in most courts nowadays, it's just takes some pretty significant evidence to prove you independently came up with the design. Some years ago a Mexican arms manufacturer won such a lawsuit against Hechler & Koch after proving they had two seperate engineering teams work on their new gun design, one who reverse engineered the latest H&K rifles, and a second team who built a rifle based on the knowledge gained but without knowing the original gun design.
