I remember connecting my Wii for the internet for the first time in 2010. Mario kart Wii online was an unhinged and beautiful experience, and I got to check out DS demos on the Nintendo Channel.

@@toys_the_memer You can get back online with RiiConnect24 if you homebrew. It works, weather and news channels work and are up to date, everybody votes channel works but not a lot of people on it, etc. The internet channel is far too out of date to really be useful with today’s web. It was still cool to get back online and visit those channels again though

The Wii U had the best online experience out of the three Nintendo services. Smash 4 would definitely lag sometimes during matches. But based off of my experience and time with my Wii U, Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon’s online servers ran nearly perfectly for seamless multiplayer fun. I can’t say the same about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe nor Splatoon 2.

yeah, even though i was a late splatoon 1 adopter, i don't really remember many disconnects. so it's weird that splatoon 2 and 3 have disconnects every 6 or so matches. you'd think they'd be getting better, not worse

I think the problem is that Wii U was a home-only console and was primerlely in a living room connected to a private Wi-Fi. Switch, with its hybrid nature, can have players that uses public Wi-Fi and mobile data or play in handheld mode in their bedroom, away from their home Wi-Fi router. I don't know the habits of Splatoon's players, just an assumption. That might be the reason behind S1 having tick rate (how often a game refreshes its information) of 20Hz and S2 and S3 a 16Hz tick rate. To make it lighter in data usage sacrificing some game experience.

Sadly, Nintendo is slowly moving away from Miis as only few games use them on the switch. Most of them being remakes. Nintendo is trying to get rid of anything they had on the Wii U as they think it will cause their console to fail. We could possibly see an entire Mii discontinuation on the Switch 2.

There’s no chance Miiverse is coming back. It was a nightmare and money dump to moderate. As nostalgic as it may be, I’ve had much more meaningful Nintendo fan interactions elsewhere

@@unfocusedfr Nintendo isn’t using Miis less because they think they were a cause of failure, it’s because they’re a Wii era gimmick they don’t need to use in their games anymore (aside from cleverly using them in Breath of the Wild and its sequel to design NPCs). I don’t think they’ll ever be completely phased out though, they’re an easy way to represent yourself and a Mario Kart mainstay

For Nintendo Switch Online I think that if you can find 7 other people to contribute to a family plan, whether it be the basic or the expansion pass, you can get a decent to good value for 10 dollars a year with hopefully more being added to said service in the future (also that's what I do).

I haven’t been able to connect my Dsi from 2009 to the internet because Nintendo shut the service off in 2014! That is RIDICULOUS. If they want to make a online service that controls wifi connection, make it fuckin LAST.

So much nostalgia for Nintendo WFC and Nintendo Network were amazing had tons more features and little DLCs every month. Monthly Mario Kart Wii competitions, channels, and MIIVERSE all for free! Then Nintendo Switch has basically nothing and they expect you to pay for P2P and servers that don't even exist, and you can't complain because it's 'just business now deal with it' when the same games are literally free on Wii U today

Mario Kart Wii competitions weren’t a great feature in hindsight. They were an excuse for Nintendo to drip-feed content instead of shipping a mission mode at launch and we’re lucky they didn’t become lost media Edit: Turns out there’s misleading info out there. Competition #3 is still lost; it has only been recreated

I didn't experience it myself, but my brother told me that there were a TON of hackers in Mario Kart wii. Some of them were obvious, like they made their characters huge or had infinite powerups or something, but some weren't as obvious, like higher speed and such.

I wish they updated the expansion pack more regularly. Especially since it only offers a yearly option and not monthly. But it takes them months to add a new game, despite having plenty of backlog titles still not in the service (All the GB and GBA pokemon games).

Also the only negative thing have is that i don't like the fact the Nintendo Online Expansion can not be bought for an individual month like the basic online service. You must buy it as a yearly subscription and i don't like that.

My issue with NSO is specifically the online. Their games still use Peer to Peer, the same connection type that was used for Nintendo DS games. Furthermore, its worse in some games than it was for their older titles. The lag in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe compared to Wii DS or even 7 is almost uncomparable. When their online was free, i thought it was fine. For a free service, peer to peer is manageable. But to pay for that? No, absolutely not. If they made the online aspect free, and charged a sub for the emulators, Id be 1000% on board with it and content. Are the emulators riddled with issues yes, but for what games come with them, its still worth it (at least now, anyway)

I feel as if the performance of online on Mario Kart 8 on Wii U was actually better than the Switch version, as I noticed a lot more lag when it came to items and such for the Switch version. U can't believe they had the nerve to call this the "Deluxe" version when you have to pay $20 annually for this type of thing.

Nintendo came broke from Wii U era and used peer-to-peer online connection cause it's significantly cheaper. Every lag and weird stuff happening in MK8, Splatoon, Smash, Mario party or every other online game is mainly happening because of this. Now that Nintendo is doing more than fine in the financial sector, the next system has to provide dedicated servers to catch up with the competition (nearly 2 decades later). I know it's more because "I want to" rather than "they have to". They'll do whatever they want at the end.

I'm trying to get a Nintendo switch and the price for online is stupidly cheap (I live in Argentina and while PS Plus is priced at USD Nintendo switch online is priced at my currency) I've always loved gameboy advanced games so it seems worth buying to me. very nice and chill video even if your mic sounds a bit strange.

I dont understand how a billion dollar company can have limited features for their online service. I cant even message my friends, something the wii had. Wii and wiiu had better features also the switch has more juice than those machines. Its been almost 8 years for the switch and no achivements, no party system, no themes no netflix and it is almost going to out sell the 3ds. Compared to ps or xbox its a joke. Its like Nintendo is lazy and disconnected about what gamers actually want. By the way I have every Nintendo console besides the Nes so I have to say i love Nintendo but hate their philosophy's and busniess decisions are frustrating

Oh, it's because back then my family didn't have a router to connect wireless devices to the internet. So the wi-fi usb adapter was used to establish an internet connection with the Wii through our PC that had a wired connection.

The original Xbox live had more features than Nintendo switch online and it's pathetic. The game library? Totally worth it, the lack of chat functions is seriously a killer in my mind. Even if they just made discord the main app but had it on the switch. Multiplayer online games are BETTER with voice or text chat, plain and simple. Great production on the video man. For such low subscriber count your quality is great. Make what YOU want to see made and you'll be successful. Keep killing it, love video game content like this.

My main problem with nintendo is that all their recent hardwares feel so selarated. Sony and microsoft bkth made 1 network and tried to share even the old games to the new consoles. Meanwhile on nintendo platforms to me it always looked like I'm loging in to a new service with a new name and it is only for this specific console and the nintendo consoles have no connection to each other
