It's time to talk about a controversial topic in the Nintendo fanbase and explain why the situation needs to change for the sake of the gaming community at large and for the PC community along with other consoles.

Yeah its depressing that Nintendo acts this way. They act this way not just about game modding but also about emulation, console modding, homebrew, fan games, or anything else created that is an expression of love, passion and intellect by fans. Nintendo's stance on third party emulation is what hurts me the most as emulation is whats really making their older games more accessible to more people and allowing more people to gain a sense of appreciation of older works (Even if in order to do so it involves piracy). I find your point about consoles to be really interesting. In my opinion, I don't think that consoles as an experience will ever truly disappear as people will always want an easy and convenient way to play games, but I do think its possible that in the future the line between console and PC will blur significantly. I kind of imagine future consoles may become something like what the Steam Deck is now were it has a gaming mode and a desktop mode and you can switch between them. Im pretty sure that you could just technically treat a steam deck as just a console that plays PC game if you really wanted to, as to my knowledge you don't even need to interact with desktop mode at all to JUST to install and play PC games. I cant predict the future, but its interesting to think about the idea of this being a possibility. Honestly all I really wish is that Nintendo would do is just leave fans alone. I don't even ask that they hire them, just leave them alone let them do their thing. Going after them aggressively will only do you more harm then good to you as all you really accomplish is farther souring your reputation and perception in the eyes of the people that love your works the most.

@@ProjectionProjects2.7182 Yep and I'm hoping that once all the old guard is gone that they'll just let it go.

I have to disagree with you on consoles eventually dying out. Because consoles offer one thing that will triumph over pc for most people: convinience. Now I'm sure most gaming companies will start to target the mobile market much more aggresively in the future, because consoles usually sell at a loss and the revenue usually comes in through the games. So cornering the mobile market will be a nice financial add on and most people have a smart phone so selling to them is incredibly easy. The pokeon company has gone in hard on the mobile market. If theres a pokemon direct 80% of is spent on mobile titles. Now to your actual point: I get your pov on from a financial standpoint you're probably right, but what you have to consider is that nintendo is a japanese company with a particular stance on how to enjoy their games. In an interview with Rolling stone one of the developers behind splatoon 2 said something very revealing IMO: "In Japan, there’s a sense of, 'We’re making this thing for you, and this is how we think this thing is better enjoyed.' This is why, in Splatoon, the maps rotate every couple of hours. And the modes change," he explains. "'I bought this game. Why can’t I just enjoy this game the way I want?' That’s not how we think here. Yes, you did buy the game. But we made this game. And we’re pretty confident about how this game should be enjoyed. If you stick with us, and if you get past your initial resistance, you’re going to have the time of your life with this game. You’re really going to love it." www.ign.com/articles/2017/09/06/splatoon-2-designer-explains-why-you-cant-play-salmon-run-all-the-time This really opened my eyes. It's why shiny locks are a thing in pokemon. It why speed running bugs which have no baring on the average player get removed. Granted this quote is already pretty old and as you said the old guard will retire eventually. But this sort of design philosophy within a company is probably hard to get rid off. I enjoyed your video nontheless. You make valid points and presented them in a clear and non judgemental way. Which can be hard to come by in the gaming corner of youtube.

Thanks for the comment and I like to hear other opinions. These days I try to not say my opinion like it's fact, it's my take and doesn't mean anybody else is less valid.

Plus judging people for an opinion is silly. If anything it makes people not want to listen to you or even discuss stuff.

So basically its pride that makes Nintendo act this way? The problem I have with this mindset is that not everyone will have the same preference as to what it means to experience a game in "The best way". Its entirely subjective, and Nintendo's view of how the games they made should be played may not be the best and arguably locks people out of getting a better playing experience and enjoying their games even more then what they do now. This mindset that they have just makes them sound like selfish control freaks and honestly sounds completly irrational in my opinion.

Also the salmon run thing is stupid. How exactly dose controlling when someone can play something in the game they paid for make the game "More enjoyable"? If anything it dose the opposite as it just leads to frustration from the player over a seemingly arbitrary choice of not allowing you to play the game mode they wanted to play.
