I only have the Alarmo out of the three shown here. Didn't know the replica Master Sword exists, and I just forgot about the Joy-Con charging stand (which I've just purchased from Nintendo after realizing it). I love using my Alarmo to make myself get out of bed, waking up to the sound of Zelda waking me up like in BotW. Because of it, I've developed a habit of waking up at certain times (depending on what time I set up my alarm).

As someone who struggles to get up while using my phone alarms, Alarmo has been amazing. The fact it forces me to actually get out of bed to end the alarm (with the setting I chose) gets me up reliably every single time. For me it was fully worth the money for that fact alone. Also being awoken by the Guardian music from BOTW really makes me get up fast haha.

I bought all 3 of these. The master sword I wasn't necessarily planning on but I stumbled upon it in my local comic book store for below MSRP on a merchandise sale day they were having, so that was an impulse buy. I wake up every morning seeing it on my shelf and I do not regret that purchase! The charging stand I wanted so I have a way to charge the NES/Famicom controllers without them looking completely stupid being attached to a Switch tablet. And the clock I just genuinely love the idea of. I think it's a very noble pursuit for Nintendo to pursue, finally delivering on their desire to improve people's quality of life. Waking up in the morning is now a Nintendo experience, and I love it. It works great. Couldn't be happier with all 3 of these things.

I was under the impression that the reason Ring Fit Adventure is one of Alarmo's launch themes was because the development team who made Alarmo was also responsible for the Ring Con?

I managed to get hold of an Alarmo too and so far i've really been enjoying it. There have been a few occasions when it didn't seem to notice me getting out of bed (alarm didn't stop) and getting into bed (sleep sound didn't start) so I'm trying to figure out how to make it work perfectly all the time but other than that I really like it. Personally, I hope we get Xenoblade alarm sounds but so far we've only been getting first-party Nintendo titles, so I'm not sure if we'll get sounds from subsidiary company titles.

Glad to hear from you Steve for the first time in a while with the podcast absence. I think this might actually be the week we get the Switch 2 announcement ironically haha, it still doesn't seem right that we know so little about early next year and the lack of a September direct for the first time this gen if Switch 2 isn't that time. And this week will be similarly far from their investors call as the October 2016 reveal was from an investors call.

I'd say a Switch 2 announcement will not happen until at least January 2025. Otherwise they would have clarified an announcement would be coming "before the end of the year", but they specifically named "the end of the financial year", so I'd be very surprised if the announcement happened in 2024.

Update: Nearly 4 weeks later and the IGN store issued a tracking number. I had no idea when to expect this item, but now it looks like they're finally shipping.

None of these products are for me, although alarmo was super interesting! I'd be more interested if it would work with Pokémon Sleep, but still, probably wouldn't get an alarm clock at that price. Master Sword is cool but I don't usually buy things just display other than an occasional poster or painting. The charging thing... I don't need it at the moment! its a no from me

On tin foil hats and successors to the Switch: My brother texted me some alleged leaks of a Switch successor in the factory earlier this summer. IDK if it is real but if it was fake then it was very high effort. The main thing I remember is that it was very underwhelming. Like, the joycon looked the same, the tablet looked the same. The bezel was smaller, there was a top facing USB-C port (for headset compatibility, I'm assuming? Or maybe for chatging it while in tabletop mode), and the kick stand was similar to the OLED model. TBH, this is kind of what I expect from a new Nintendo Switch. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I own a Steam Deck and a Switch and I can say that the Switch is basically perfect as is (I mean I don't play a lot of AAA games so maybe I am biased). The Steam Deck is also perfect, and it is basically the same thing as the Switch (I mean the Steam Deck is chonkier and it has USB-C on the top instead of the bottom, but like its a big chungus handheld that plays indie games great and that plays console games at low settings. Same product, basically). Maybe the battery life could be longer on a successor. Maybe the dock could have some hardware that allows the thing to output in 1440p or 4k when docked. Like, idk if it is possible to output a game in 720p and then do a 3x upscaling filter to make it look like 2160p, but that seems like it wouldn't be too outrageous. I mean my TVs output either 720p (my flatscreens) or 480i (my CRT) but I am a 24 year old who gets TVs for $20 on FB Marketplace, and obviously I am not the target demo of new tech products (as you can tell by the fact that my main game console is a PS3, I buy all my movies on DVD and I usually get them at the thrift store, and my cell phone is a flip phone). My older brother works in tech and he has a massive 4K flatscreen but tbh we use it to play like, Wii Sports (which I'm pretty sure is only 480p, lol). I would definitely say that 720p in handheld mode is fine. Nintendo are masters at making simple graphics look great-- Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and Super Mario 3D World all look great and they all run at a high FPS. So, a more powerful Switch is not really necessary, in my opinion. I'd say the best improvements would be a smaller bezel, allowing the Switch to charge while in tabletop mode, a longer battery life, and maybe upping the maximum size for games-- like, a lot of games are 80GB or more, and limiting games to be 32GB sometimes leads to audio or textures being compressed so bad they seem fuzzy (this mainly impacts ports of major third party games, like Assassin's Creed or the Witcher). The PS3 distributed games on Blu Ray, and I'm pretty sure that a single Blu Ray can hold like 50GB of data. So, the Switch limiting games to 32GB is really bringing us back to the N64 era where the size of cartridges was the main limiting factor, more than CPUs or GPUs or whatever else. Like the Switch works as it is. It plays tons of great games. The rise of indie gaming and the popularity of retro gaming shows that gamers care about good games, and high budget graphics are less important. IDK, maybe I exist outside of the mainstream games industry but IMO, the Switch ain't broke so they don't need to fix it. I don't plan to upgrade my Switch for many years to come. Why bother? I got Tears of the Kingdom and Persona 5, and they play great. Personally, I think the smartest thing that Nintendo should do for a Switch successor is to have three completely different SKUs available at launch. A Switch Lite style handheld-only device (which would be like, $100 cheaper than the standard Switch. Same as today), a PS TV style docked-only device (which would be like $150 cheaper. Maybe even $200 cheaper. It would be tiny and it would come with a pro controller instead of joycon), and a Switch that actually switches for the full price (which, tbh I am assuming will be about $399. Inflation + the global GPU shortage fueled by the AI and Crypto bubbles + global political tensions effecting major manufacturers = gaming hardware getting pricier). Since like, some people only want to play portably and other people never want to play portably, so offering cheaper models which have the same hardware and software (but which don't Switch) would probably be a smart method of price discrimination. They'd need strong branding and marketing though, so that people know the difference. Price discrimination is a smart way to maximize profits by selling the same product for different prices to consumers with different budgets (like how I pay $2/month for Hulu with my student membership, but I would never pay the full $8/month for Hulu), but confusing customers is just bad business.
