Honestly, it was way better than any console heading towards the retirement home, had any right to be. Compared to the last year of both the Wii and Wii U, it actually had good games to play for one. In terms of first party, its support is going out on a way higher note, even factoring in them wheeling out the last handful of Wii U games that are on the docket

For comparison: Wii in 2012: Xenoblade, Last Story, Mario Party 9, Pikmin 2 NPC, Rhythm Heaven Fever, Mario Party 9, like half of these games were out in Europe much earlier. Wii U in 2016: Star Fox zero/Guard, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Paper Mario Color Splash, Pokken Tournament, Twilight Princess HD, Mario and Sonic Olympic Games 2016 Switch in 2024: Mario vs. DK remake, Paper Mario:TTYD remake, Mario and Luigi Brothership, Echoes of Wisdom, Another Code Remakes, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, Mario Party Jamboree, Princess Peach Showtime, Emio The Smling Man, Nintendo World Championships

Brothership has a slow start and perfomance problems (had to play undocked for consistency), but it does add something that other games dont have: A reason to basic attack. Plugs enhancing basic attacks. The end game from any other M&L game is spam bros moves, but if you take advantage of the plugs you can get faster kills on a lot of enemies. Ive enjoyed the game, but cant recommend to friends because of the performance (load times and frame drops) The other thing I'm thankful for is cutscene speed up for my reading speed. Wish TTYD kept it's speedy dialogue from the original

Interesting that your game ran better undocked. I felt that my experience with Brothership gave me more problems when I was playing in handheld vs. playing docked. I'm still unclear why anyone cares what the hardware looks like. It's a Switch. It'd be different if it was like the DS or the Switch itself, something totally new and different we'd not seen done before. But the Switch 2? It's like leaking the form factor of the 3DS. It looked like a DS. That was the least note worthy thing about the machine. If there's anything of note about the next Switch we won't know simply by it's shape. Because it's shaped like literally every other post Switch handheld device.

@Neoxon61913 күн бұрын
This was definitely the weakest year of the Switch era by a pretty sizable margin, mostly populated with ports/remasters/remakes alongside various small-to-mid tier releases (EoW falls under mid-tier, if you’re curious). Their only heavy-hitter in 2024 was Super Mario Party Jamboree, & almost none of the games Nintendo released this year were fully made internally (depending on how you count Nintendo Cube). But considering that the Switch is about to turn 8 years old & Nintendo is likely working on games for the Switch 2, Nintendo slacking a bit is perfectly justified. Plus I’m sure most other publishers would kill for a year like this to be their weakest, as we still got some pretty good stuff amongst the pile.
@rohaanu673313 күн бұрын
I thought that this year was pretty great for the switch compared to some of its past years, particularly 2018, which didn’t have much outside of smash ultimate. We got a new Mario and Luigi, Zelda, ttyd remake, another code, and Damion detective club. Admittedly, though, a lot of those appeal to me specifically.

The weird thing is, there are aspects I disagree with about your criticisms about Mario & Luigi: Brothership, but I haven't finished the game; I took a break because it started to feel too bloated, so I struggle to argue with your points. I'm honestly more willing to go to bat for Paper Mario and Smiling Man as the best games of the year from Nintendo. PS: I'm not a stickler for framerate and performance, but even I noticed how much Echoes of Wisdom was struggling, so as much as I loved that game, that's the issue that REALLY needs to be addressed on Switch 2.

Brothership is great fun. Can't say I agree with y'all on it.. Sure it's got some pacing issues but the combat is the best it's ever been. Why would you want an RPG to be short? I don't understand that criticism about length. If you're not keen on an RPG with many characters having a lot of dialogue, you can just press the B button to fast forward through most of it. Guess we can agree to disagree, personally I gotta say that Brothership is easily one of my favorites in the series right now. My criticisms with the game are really just that I wish some story elements were explained a bit more and that there could have been a few more boss fights sprinkled throughout, along with a new game plus or Hard mode like how Dream Team had.

It was a fine, year. I mean the first half had very niche stuff. With Another Code, Endless Ocean. And Princess Peach Showtime I feel like it was made with a younger audience in mind. Paper Mario TTYD is fine, I do feel it has a hardcore audience but I didn't bother with it because it's not as replayable. LM2 is my favorite Luigi's Mansion. It's not as short as the first game, and the combat IMO is better than the third game. It has an arcade feeling with how the scoring actually matters for each mission instead of just giving you a grade at the very end like in 3.(I swear, when you think about it, money is pointless in the third game). I haven't played Emio but like Metroid Dread it seems Yoshio Sakamoto wanted to have closure with that series. Or end an story arc. Echoes of Wisdom is fun, despite the framerate pacing issues. I feel the game invites you to get and see everything, it's nice having that map in a single realm. The echoes I feel like repeated playthroughs will give it a different experience. Mario Party Jamboree is fun, though at this stage in life I haven't met as often with friends as I use to. I do like it having an option to make it less random and more reliant on playing well. I'll wait for Switch 2 to play Mario and Luigi. Though I'm disappointed to hear it's being compared to Dream Team which was the last game I played. I suppose is exciting to not know how and when they'll launch the next console. Though opinions on it are very boring, just a tech update like it was a cellphone, I feel like with all their hardware it'll have unique features. Or at least have an updated UI that adds to the experience when launching a game, like Miiverse. I just feel the speculation on it has been very uninteresting because in the end more than tech specs is about how and what design decisions they do to improve the experience and make it more appealing and exciting. Next year we already know of 2 big games being Metroid Prime 4 and Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

@RaK0 3rd party games with performance cutbacks and problems were already a thing from the Switch first year. We are not talking about new problems here when it comes to how devs decide to make their games work on the console.
