I think the many YTers boosted the hype for Switch 2 so much with their rumors and speculations on a daily basis, that it started to cannibalize the Switch 1 sales already (more and more potencial customers started to play a game of waiting, instead of buying a Switch 1). And that's why they had to throw in something that can stop the speculation and ensures a last decent holiday season. In June's Direct they will drop some nuclear bombs, like Metroid Prime 4, maybe a Metroid Prime 2 and 3 Remastered, a Wind Waker and/or Twilight Princess remastered and they will secure their fine holiday sales volume. And AFTER that, the successor can be announced, 1st Q of 2025, with a summer or fall launch, so the Switch 2 sales can accelerate before and for 2025's holiday season.

In addition to the launch issues, Nintendo is likely planning for the first year and then the next two, since the success of a system is generally determined by sales over the first three years. The first year always gets a bump because the system is new. How they transfer 140 million over to the new system over a three year period is really crucial. Also complicating this is that Nintendo has said that they do not want to have to split their focus between two systems, so I do not think they will go about this the same way that Sony has even if the new system has backwards compatibility. I also think it would be a bit of an unnecessary gamble to just do an abrupt move to the new system, even though that is more likely. If the new system has some way of bridging the two generations then it would be best for them to start to give folks some of the features and concepts before a lot of the specs leak and before the holiday season where the original switch will likely see its first price drop.

My guess is that once they launch the Switch 2 they'll stop production on the red box Switch and then cut the price of the Switch Lite to $150 and the Switch OLED to $300 with the Switch 2 launching at $400. I can't see Nintendo only having a $50 price difference between their brand new system and their legacy system and I also can't see Nintendo selling their new console for more than $400. If their parts prices have somehow come way down then MAYBE the Switch OLED could drop even more to like say $279.99 but realistically there will likely be at least $100 difference between the old and the new to clearly indicate to the public that this new thing is better EVEN IF it possibly doesn't have as nice of a screen with it possibly going back to LCD instead of OLED for the initial model. Of course, even if it does this I could totally see Nintendo coming out with a mid-gen refresh 4 years in where they bring back the OLED screen along with a possible die shrink and slight re-design.
