Just want to give a heads up this a great video step by step process. I just changed mine using this video. ONE THING I DO WANT TO POINT OUT IS. GETTING THE ACTUAL BATTERY OUT IS A LOT HARDER THAN YOU THINK. YOU CANT JUST “gently” take it out. it’s practically super glued on there. It took me about 30+ mins just trying to safely pry the battery off. Also LOTS OF SCREWS be very careful and don’t mix them! it’s a lot easier if you leave them separate in order you take them out so you can work backwards.

One does not simply "gentle pry the battery up and out of it's well"
@enakcma
@enakcma 4 жыл бұрын
It's better to start gently prying up the old battery from wired side, as there's a sloped area underneath there to better fit an improvised non conducting pry tool to remove the battery. Don't bend or rupture the battery.

Yes, that is a good advice. What I did is cut the credit card into 5 thin pieces, stuck one after another, (the next piece comes under the previous one or in between previous pieces) at different angles. Push them as far as you can, lift them a bit until you are able to stuck the iFixit card above the pieces, below the battery. Push the card until you break through that cement.

Use a heat gun or hair dryer on the battery to heat up the glue under the battery. Than start sliding plastic pry opening tool under battery. Apply more heat and slide pry tool more. Repeat until battery is out.

It actually is glued in place, I suspect the battery was already removed once before they shot this video so the glue was no longer there. If you watch other videos (like JerryRigEverything) you will see that the battery is in fact glued down and you can risk damaging it by attempting to remove it

WARNING: This is a good video, BUT there is adhesive under the existing battery and it makes it hard to take off, I looked around a few videos and found that most people are going in from the bottom with a spudger (Don't apply too much pressure) and also using a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive. Be careful I was using medium heat as to not overheat the battery because I think if you put it on high for too long it could rupture the battery. Also when they tell you take off the 5 screws for that silver plate there are 6 screws at least on mine there was so make sure they are all off before you lift the plate.

My thoughts exactly, the video looks very professional and sleek but at the cost of not providing the most valuable information for people that are actually attempting this repair. 1) the battery does NOT come out as easily as they make it look, and 2) I clicked on this video specifically for a hint on dealing with the thermal paste that you will upset following these steps.

Bought your kit and replaced ours. We had more screws in our metal shield, and you need to slide the card under where the wires go in to cut through the double back tape. We used a credit card. I also removed the OE heat paste and used some Arctic Silver. Hopefully that helps keep it cooler. The OE stuff was dried out. Good kit though!

The tiny Phillips head screws are a pain to get out. I had to use a vice grip, strong screwdriver and large amount of pressure on the screw, and that slightly shredded the screwheads. Also, my Switch had a 6th screw in the bottom right at 1:05, where the hole is on the Switch in the video.

I don't know if anyone else did this, but I accidentally stripped two of the SEVEN (not five) screws when attempting to remove the metal plate. It's ok, don't panic. As long as you get most of the screws out, you can bend the metal plate until it snaps and leave the stubborn screws inside. This isn't ideal, of course, so try to be careful, but you really don't need all of those screws. As long as you remove the plate, you can bend it back later. It is very malleable metal. Be careful to avoid damaging components underneath when prying it up though.

@Regan995
@Regan995 5 жыл бұрын
"Follow this guide to replace the battery in a Nintendo Switch gaming console. The battery is heavily glued in and will require adhesive remover to make replacement possible. Before disassembling your device, discharge the battery below 25%. The battery can catch fire and/or explode if accidentally punctured, but the chances of that happening are much lower if discharged. If your battery is swollen, do not heat your Switch. Use a dropper, or syringe, to inject isopropyl alcohol (90+%) underneath the battery to weaken the adhesive. Swollen batteries can be dangerous, so wear eye protection and exercise due caution if attempting removal yourself. Take it to a professional if you’re not sure how to proceed."

@halami2149

It helps to take it off the charger at 80%, keeping the battery hovering around 50% is the best. But 80-90 is way less strain than 100% every time. As for how much time it’ll take, it depends. It’s probably good for at least 500 charge cycles, when you get close to 1000 then you’ll notice major battery degradation, probably

I replaced the battery but it still won't charge. Can you make a short video about putting the new battery in and reconnecting everything? Idk if that's the problem but I'm kinda desperate.

No mentioning of needing to clean off and replace the old Thermal paste?? Seems like a pretty important part to forget..

I'm not being an ass, I may just be blind, but where if anywhere was there thermal paste? Isn't that just used for CPUs? If they removed any, I didn't see it in the video.

Inklan Utterfield There is what looks to be like thermal paste under the metal shield (bottom left quadrant of the unit. There also thermal pads on the metal shield piece in the same area, but iFixit chose not to show that area in this video.) Easy to just clean off the old and put new on before reassembly.

Is the battery replacement on the iFixit website the one from the new Switch (released August 2019)? I'm looking into whether my old Switch can be upgraded for the better battery life.

The battery from the V2 is the exact same as the battery from the V1 Switch you have. The reason there’s a difference in battery life is because the V2 has a more efficient chip. You can’t upgrade battery life on the Switch unfortunately.

i stripped the one of the screws on the JoyCon rails. there's almost nothing left for the screwdriver to hold onto, and using bigger screwdrivers only makes the problem worse. what do I do?

Easiest way to remove the battery: Slowly pry from the battery cable side and periodically spray in electrical contact cleaner (or any suitable solvent, alcohol might do)
