I was watching a video from Louis Rossman yesterday and the difference is style and quality of soldering techniques between him and this channel was amazing. Rossman was removing a surface mount capacitor from a Mac board and it was like he simply didn't know about heated tweezers! It was like he was using an iron tip that was three times the size of the cap he was trying to remove. Very messy. I've not done micro soldering myself except to learn I am no good at it. I'm also a radio ham and am trained in and can use a regular soldering iron with great results. Man! These two are like night and day. NorthridgeFix is MUCH better, so much tidier and cleaner... Good job dude.

blown filer is usually caused by usb-c port problem, always verify this first as some signals go directly from port to these chokes.Also after PI3USB replacement it is better to verify if the console also works in dock mode as this is what this chip is mainly for. It works in handheld mode even without PI3USB installed. May two cents based on my repairs

Any advice on what to try if one switch will work in dock mode, but another does not? Both will show the green light on the dock and charge, but only one displays to the screen. I have the switch's tv settings the same on both. I have tried multiple docks, multiple tv settings (720p 480p etc), but still no luck.

Alex, there are 2 possible boards in the switch depending on where it was made one has 4 larger filters by P13USB, the other has 5 smaller filters. I’ve run into this before and used 2 201 filters as well! I believe it’s the US board that has 4 and the Japanese one has 5, but I don’t remember.

He has in the past, I was wondering if he would. Thing is, it's not necessary for the repair. It would be an added bonus, but as long as the component makes a good connection it should be ok. If he'd run a jumper you know there would have been some mask.

@Infiniti254 жыл бұрын
Lead solder, it will lower the temperatures needed for solder to flow when he places the new part. Lead-free solder needs a higher temperature to melt so would place higher thermal stress on the new/replacement parts when they are being placed on the board.

@lexander96864 жыл бұрын
For me, 390°c~425°c heat, 20~60 Airflow depending on the chip size, the bigger the chip the higher the airflow.
@Infiniti254 жыл бұрын
Also depends on your hot air station and it’s quality to supply the heat it says it is supplying on the readouts. Might say 400C on the readout but might be more like 340C at the nozzle. This is most likely to be true on cheap Chinese hot air stations and uncalibrated hot air stations.

@@gower1973 Yeah! I always thought of capacitors, as filters! But do they make a component called a filter? I'm a little confused about all of this!
@kennethyeoman7764 жыл бұрын
@@lexander9686 That's an interesting thought, but just how would an inductor filter a circuit? And thanks for your input!
@NorthridgeFix4 жыл бұрын
The component is classified as a choke/inductor to suppresses high-frequency electronic noise. It's inductive at low frequencies. Unlike bypass capacitors, The inductor is used in series with the the power line, which means that any DC current flowing through the inductor will create a voltage drop proportional to the DC resistance. Bypass capacitors basically bypasses AC noise that may be on a DC signal, filtering out the AC, for clean DC signal. Both are commonly used together is circuits. Tons of information available online. Search it up.
