I was surprised you didn't inject voltage after the first chip no joy as you do so often for a result. It was odd enough from experience to be worth an overlook. Your hunger for understanding made you do it in the end anyway, good for you. How often do we get stuck with yesterday's prejudice and fail to apply basic practice? This job is as psychological as it is technical. What an everyday challenge.

Before watching these videos, I used a Weller solder sucker every time I wanted clean holes. Now I use wick instead very often. That is why every repairman should watch these videos. I learn a lot from them. Ever since I have learned from these videos, and practiced, I am changing charging connectors like socks in the morning.

I started watching this guy, he's real and upfront. No editing. He shows it as it happens. He shows that he's professional, experienced, but not perfect. I learned a lot from him and ordered from his site, so I can do the basic and possibly the hard repairs. His videos are better than spending money for a school.

When I read shorts in multiple circuits; I use a 5 or 6 thousand count multimeter, and the circuit or component that's reading the LOWEST resistance (in milli or micro ohms); I start with that circuit. Thus eliminating the very small resistance of the trace or other components in the circuit. Love the soldering skills.

Nice video, each one should make a steps to be followed just like: 1-whenever you have a short you need to trace it with thermal cam to save time or else. 2-when removing a component measure if you still have the fault before replacing. 3-always work with your standard(if we have this we do this even if you have an experience, just double check no shame in that. Thx for the video

During the whole video I was thinking why you were doing things in wrong order. I have no knowledge in electronics repairing and anything I know is thanking your videos. I was always thinking it could be a bad cap itself so why don't we try voltage injecting. Anyway at the end of the video you mentioned about it too. We'll see if there'll be a second round.

Did you attempt the video/audio chip? (P13USB Chip) That can also prevent the switch from charging since it's also in the same circuitry as the power ic chip. It's worth swapping out before considering it a non-fixable board.

your chat about time spent on a job reminds me of this joke which I tell customers regularly. A ship engine failed and no one could fix it, so they brought in a guy with 40 years experience. He inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom. After looking things over, the guy reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine burst back into life. The engine was fixed! 7 Days later the owners got his bill for $10,000. "What?!" the owners said. "You hardly did anything. Send us an itemised bill." The reply simply said: Tapping with a hammer: $2 Knowing where to tap: $9,998 Don't ever underestimate experience.

What's the difference between low melt solder and leaded solder? I guess the low melt has an even lower melting point? Lacking low melt, using leaded solder would help removing connectors as well, right?
