That's an involved disassembly for a port repair. Nintendo like to make things hard. I've got to do this for my nephews. I got all the gear just didn't know how to take it apart without damaging it, so thank you.

I dont know much about system designing but all that complicated stuff made it impossibly thin for a gaming console. Gotta give the some leeway sometimes. It's not like they purposely made hard to repair, its still doable and not like apple that dont want you repairing any

I wouldn't recommend it, you wouldn't be able to heat all the solders pins at the same time. It would be better to get a cheap hot air/heat gun station to do it.

Hi, I used a rework station with heat profiles, so it regulates a steady temperature at around 225/230 °C. The bottom heat is not necessary with these boards because they are small, but it helps.

You could use it to remove the port just be very careful and hold it away not to close to the board look for the solder to liquify then lift the port, however it would be best to manually solder a new port back on with a soldering iron.

At 1:55 you remove the component by what looks like a ripping motion, and in the latter part of the video, you don't show yourself putting it back. How did you put it back? Did you use thermal paste there too or is the connection mechanical? There are a lot of comments asking about flux and heating tools, but exactly what thermal paste do you buy? And lastly - If I HAD to do it with either a soldering iron OR a heat gun, which would you recommend of the two? Thanks in advance, and great video overall!
@deans76 Жыл бұрын
Hi Thank you for your comment a good thermal paste to use is Arctic Mx4 I think the ripping part you mean is when I'm removing the heatsink this is stuck down to the fan. You would be best to use a heat gun on low settings to remove the port however I have never used one for this type of repair If you do use a heat gun i would suggest turning the board over and let the port fall out with little pressure just to make sure you don't damage any solder tracks.
