Nintendo Switch Lite Shell Swap, Part 1

I've replaced my shell with the clear smoked version a few days ago, looks awesome. Just a tip for everyone, you dont have to remove the battery. And also what Speed mentioned too, make sure to take plenty of up close pictures of where the screws go. From what I remember it was 3 different colored screw, black for the outside, light greenish metallic and silver screws for the inside. Also, watch how you slot in the L and R shoulder buttons and make sure it doesn't hit the black rubber nub. If your shoulder buttons become mushy and doesnt have feedback, it is because of this.

For real man, pretty sure I damaged my battery trying to get it out before I realized you didn't need to take it out. Fucking Speed... at least add an annotation or something. Completely unnecessary and extremely hard to try and remove.

do not remove battery cracked screen trying to pry battery out, didnt realize it until I was finished, now having to buy my gf new switch light, thanks a lot speed, not DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE BATTERY! REMOVAL OF BATTERY IS NOT NECESSARY!

When I went to remove the screen I was gentle but still ended up cracking the screen be very gentle and make sure the adhesive is warmed up or else you will end up like me with a broken screen

Just keep track of what screws go where. When I made this video, I had no real specific way of keeping track since I was using my phone to record. The tray I used really really helped a lot.

this is super helpful. i have one question, if you had a spare lcd and spare digitizer would it be as simple as sticking those two together? what kind of glue is used?

I got all the way to the screws at the charing port and stripped one of the screws 😱. They were TIGHT! I gave up and just put the back shell on. Other than MY failure this tutorial is super easy to follow. 👍🏽

Hey, I follwed ur steps to swap the battery from my switch lite just like in ur video but now it turns on and after the switch logo I get an error code 2101 - 0001. What do u think it may be?

Thank you for the guide! Manages to pull it off with only one issue and its confusing. I fixed it but the L button nub that clicks into the mother board broke. Managed to fix it but it was extremly weird. R button is fine just how you press into the l button takes a 2% more effort. I could just be paranoid or it could be the spring. Otherwise it inputs just fine.

What keeps the LCD stuck to the Digitizer? If I am building from spare parts, do i need to stick the lcd and digitizer together

Very cool but wow I could never do this, I wouldn't trust myself lol. Honestly idk why Nintendo didnt try to do this themselves. Making the switch lite customizable would have been an amazing selling point for it! Sure you lose docking and joycons but you can customize it!

I just did mine; and when all was said and done; everything looked great and the buttons worked ect; but when I hit the power button, the screen only replied to touch; there was no actual visuals. I opened it back up and rechecked all my ribbon connections for the screen and they all seem fine. The only ribbon that seems a little bent or “non-factory” is the ribbon under the battery. I followed the video to a tee and kept each set of screws that were removed in separate little medicine cups. I did notice the different colors but also some of the sets of screws we removed also had different lengths; I’m thinking either this has something to do with it or I messed up the actual connection from the ribbon to the LCD when removing or reinstalling?? Any help or insight from you or any other commenters would be greatly appreciated. I’m going crazy in thIS COVID seclusion without my Switch!!!

I’ve successfully shell swapped my switch lite. For anyone interested in tips for heating up the screen with a hair dryer just take your time and focus on heating up the edges. Don’t heat up the back and keep the dryer a good distance away from the screen about 6 inches- 1ft away. I only heated mine up for about 2 minutes total and it came out with relative ease! God speed people and best of luck to your future shell swaps.

I would really remove, the removal of the battery section from the video. I had to use a lot of force and i cracked the plastic edge above the battery.

Don’t remove the battery. You run the risk of puncturing the battery. It can be done without battery removal

Look up CB Customs and Repair on Etsy. They have a mail-in service where you can send in your console and they will customize it for you. Hope this helps :)
